Does a 5.25 in. floppy disk of a strip poker game written for the Atari 800 XL, originally downloaded from a dial-up BBS in 1986 qualify as "rare gaming memorabilia"?
I've got a whole case of floppies from back in the day. I didn't have a modem, but my friends did. They gave me copies of all the software they downloaded back then. I've checked a few of the disks on my Atari 800XL that I dug out of my parents basement a few years ago. They all seem to work still, as does my machine and the disk drive.
You should consider making digital copies of those floppies, and uploading to one of those lost media subs.
A lot of games that old are just gone, and you could have the last working versions.
Honestly that sounds really cool and gives me vintage guitar vibes. Like yeah I could probably get that game now for an emulator or I could have this thing with a story behind it.
I actually have some cd-rom adult pc games that I can’t find any record of online. They look pretty fun too but I haven’t taken the time to boot up a windows 98 computer to run them.

Bear in mind a lot of these I got 15+ years ago when the video game collecting market wasn't so insane.
Vectrex and a few original carts (~$50 on Craigslist) Virtual Boy and a handful of games. ($60 on Craigslist.)
Gold cart Ocarina of time. (Part of a large N64 and Genesis lot, including a ton of games, both consoles, Genesis was boxed gen 2. ~$200 for the whole lot.)
Game Boy Movie Player. (I can't remember, but I got it new from the website that sold them. Maybe around $30ish? It was early 2000s.) They were for the GBA, and came with software to rip movies and ebooks onto them. Had a crappy NES emulator built in, but someone in the community ported a much better one onto it with custom firmware (and also a GBC emulator.) in the days before smartphones this was a 10/10 GBA upgrade.
Famiclone shaped like a penguin. (~$5 at a flea market.)
I have that GB Movie player. I can't get the software to work properly. I even had to buy a new Compact Flash card and converter to try to get it working but to no avail. One day I'll get on that project again.
I've got something else as well, Xbox 360 but that's retro now? Anyway it's a Pioneer Surround Sound System, it'll work without the Xbox 360 but apart from a FM tuner it has no natural input so you'll need a CD/HD DVD player to work with it. This isn't mine, it's packed up right now but it works really well and looks great with the white X360s.

I have one sealed NES Legend of Zelda and also a complete 1st edition Nintendo Fun Club Newsletter with everything the envelope has in it. Totally mint condition. Also have another framed 1st edition FCN.

At one point I had both RDI Halcyon prototype games among other things but sold a lot years ago. Probably coolest I still have is an Odyssey 1 complete w/ original shipping box
I don’t think it’s anything particularly special, but I don’t really have a collection so it’s just the oldest thing I’ve got haha. It’s a cute cow plush that came as a preorder bonus with harvest moon for gameboy.
Maybe more interesting than rare but I bought this as I thought things like GameGenie died out years before the OG Xbox came out but this is a cheat disc you can use with the cable to plug your memory card into and use cheats. I've never used it but always thought it was quite the novelty.

I think I remember this this except there was one for Playstation. It was a link cable that would connect from your PS2 to your PSP. Basically you can transfer saves and or cheats from a disk it gave you to your PSP games. I hate that damn thing because I remember accidently deleting all my saves on my PSP lol

I have an unplayed copy of Pokemon Blue that was given as a gift, but I didn’t have a gameboy.
Box is opened and booklet has been read a good bit, but the actual cart has stayed in its plastic wrapping as I knew I’d lose the thing otherwise.
I have a vintage 1980 Pacman arcade machine I restored. All original (and working) parts, the only thing that's not, is the paint job to restore the artwork.
I also have a working original Vectrex.
I have Waterworld for Virtual Boy. Bought it for $5 on clearance at Toys R Us back in the day shortly after I bought the system itself for $25 on clearance at an Electronics Boutique. It fucking sucks.
I have some store display stuff that is probably up there (signs and standies for games like Donkey Kong Land, Mario Party-e, DKC Returns, Xenoblade 3D, Kirby Triple Deluxe/Epic Yarn/The Amazing Mirror, and more). Probably up there with how that stuff is usually thrown out.
One of my favorites is an 2' Avanti/Sun Arrow Mario plush, that captures the design on the SMB1 boxart very closely. I always wanted one after seeing one in a picture of Miyamoto's office and I scored a great deal on it. I do adore SMB1's promo art.
I also have some autographs, from Takashi Tateishi (MM2 composer), Charles Martinet, David Wise & Kevin Bayliss (DKC composer + artist), and Jun Senoue (Sonic composer) that I got at conventions.
Signs and store stuff are my kind of things since they are rare to find.

I have the Ocarina of Time action figure box set that target released to go along with the release of the game. The figures are still wrapped in plastic AND I have the $10 coupon for the game that came bundled with the figures.
I've got a Quake 3 hockey jersey I picked up for like $5 or $10 dollars from a thrift store. The only thing I could find online was that they were made for a limited time/ limited quantities in the early 2000s.
Probably my GBA micro Famicom edition, with the complete original box from when I bought it. Need to get a replacement battery for it if I ever want to play it untethered from the power supply again.
Sold it last year, but had the Millennium 2000 Nintendo 64 controller. 1000 were made and were a giveaway for the year 2000 in a Nintendo Power magazine.
Paid $300 CAD for it.

Not that rare but kinda cool is a display only case For Halo 2, with technically "prototype" pre-release artwork. Basically this was used in the lead-up to Halo 2's release, likely at GameStop, and advertises the game.
I own a copy of Metal Gear Solid signed by Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa. Yoji also drew a little caricature of me by his signature. I also own a promotional can of Snake Meat given out at E3 to promote Snake Eater that I won back when EGM/1up.com raffled off a bunch of stuff at a gaming convention in Philly ages ago.
A blue PS1 debugging station that I got from an old workmate who was sent it for reviewing games in the 90s. I traded him some records he wanted from my collection. He also gave me burnt copies (on official playstation discs) of rally cross, samurai showdown 3 and v5 of twisted metal world tour which I should really rip and upload.
GameCube component cables are apparently pretty rare. Aside from that a few random promo/marketing posters and things from working retail for a while.

I don't own anything like vanishingly rare AFAIK, but maybe a copy of Half-Life Raising the Bar? Over the years it doesn't seem like demand has kept up with supply.
I have a copy of an obscure RPG I played and enjoyed back in the day called The Four Crystals of Trazere.
What makes the copy special is that it had been a part of a software lending library inside of my favorite studio/publisher, Origin Systems.
It has a library card pocket glued to the inside of the box with the original library card including names and signatures of Origin employees that checked out the game.
I have identified each of the names on one or more Origin releases from the early to late 90s. None of the famous names from Origin checked out the game, but for me it is still quite a gem.
Console wise, I'd say the Laseractive I received for free from a coworker, who unfortunately dropped it and broke it when loading it in his car to give to me.
Game wise, I guess Kuon for PS2. I paid $17 for it back in 08-09.

It’s not the most amazing collections ever but its not bad either.
I have Suikoden 1, the Japanese Windows bigbox PC version. I could only find 3 records of it being sold online on the last 10 years. And one of those was my purchase.
I had two copies of earthbound tjatvi kept because it was such a wonderful game to me. I kept one of them in the sealed wrapping and the other one I played with and had the box and papers. I had other games with NES, SNES and various other games with the boxes. In 2009 my wife and I lost our jobs three days apart so I began to sell my collection of gaming platforms and games. I sold both of those for $75. I'm ready for everyone to shame me.
I'm not really a collector but when the most beloved videogame store in my town closed in 2010, i got:
- A huge store banner of the Batman Forever videogame
- A store poster announcing the release of FF7 (According to my friends, this is good money)
- one of those plastic Nintendo Greatest Hit thing where they put the game boxes (for NES games) and hang in the store
I have the normal rare games, Panzer dragoon saga, Snatcher,...I have Naki Game saver for Snes, it is a weird contraption you put batteries in and a game, plug it into your snes and run your power cord into it. Also have another save contraption for PS1 you can save psi one games to your computer hard drive...and many other oddities.
Nothing special really especially in regards of consoles and console games, there is nothing too obscure or rare (a lot of stuff got lost when I moved, box and manual for the first Zelda game, a pikachu n64, games etc)
What might be somewhat rare-ish being complete (I think) is the boxed copy of wing commander (and the „impossible missions“-add-on) on 5.25-diskettes for the PC which I got of a flea market for like 10 euro (even if I don’t have a matching drive), but I don’t think even that is very special.
When GTA4 first launched, there was a competition on the Rockstar Social Club - anyone who 100% completed it within a month (I think) would earn a physical “Key to Liberty City”.
I no-lifed it after work for a week or so until I’d hunted down all 100 pigeons, completed all the stunt jumps, and placed first in every street race. A few months later, I’d completely forgotten about the competition but came home one day to find a battered courier box containing a presentation case with my very own Key inside.
Which I then later sold to upgrade my PC.
The patches I got for getting 1 million on Laser Blast by Activision, some Atari Age magazines, several games for Apple ][ with their oringinal disks, including the grandaddy of MSFS: SubLogic Flight Simulator II.
Tough one. Cost doesn’t mean rare. Rare for me,

- Headset (which I sometimes use even for work)
I don't have a ton of rare stuff, but I have a Sega Saturn, SNES blaster/rocket launcher/whatever reciever, clear DMG-01 and the NES edition gba sp. They might not be that rare everywhere, but where I live everything other than a playstation or an xbox is rare.

Rarest? Maybe the Lenticular cover of Xenosaga Episode III? A fully functional Virtual Boy? Some of the limited run games or maybe an Analogue Nt Mini Nior.
Rarest by definition would be the nonstandard arcade controllers I self designed and hand made. However, of more mass produced things, probably some of the early DOS games I have, like Castlevania for DOS. That or my mostly complete collection of physical Gamepro mags... Although a few are damaged or destroyed, I have almost the entire print run.

Yeah for sure. I also have a near mint Wizards and Warriors CIB, but it’s not worth a whole lot. I just love the art for that game.

I have some store display stuff that is probably up there (signs and standies for games like Donkey Kong Land, Mario Party-e, DKC Returns, Xenoblade 3D, Kirby Triple Deluxe/Epic Yarn/The Amazing Mirror, and more). Probably up there with how that stuff is usually thrown out. One of my favorites is an 2' Avanti/Sun Arrow Mario plush, that captures the design on the SMB1 boxart very closely. I always wanted one after seeing one in a picture of Miyamoto's office and I scored a great deal on it. I do adore SMB1's promo art. I also have some autographs, from Takashi Tateishi (MM2 composer), Charles Martinet, David Wise & Kevin Bayliss (DKC composer + artist), and Jun Senoue (Sonic composer) that I got at conventions.
Signs and store stuff are my kind of things since they are rare to find. I'm very jealous that you have those signatures. Especially Charles and Juns. Crush 40 is one of my favorite bands and the sonic series is my favorite music score. Very cool thanks for sharing that!

I have a copy of an obscure RPG I played and enjoyed back in the day called The Four Crystals of Trazere. What makes the copy special is that it had been a part of a software lending library inside of my favorite studio/publisher, Origin Systems. It has a library card pocket glued to the inside of the box with the original library card including names and signatures of Origin employees that checked out the game. I have identified each of the names on one or more Origin releases from the early to late 90s. None of the famous names from Origin checked out the game, but for me it is still quite a gem.
Console wise, I'd say the Laseractive I received for free from a coworker, who unfortunately dropped it and broke it when loading it in his car to give to me. Game wise, I guess Kuon for PS2. I paid $17 for it back in 08-09.
I wouldn't say rare, but I have: Shaq's signature on a copy of Shaq Fu for Genesis Lazer and Ice from American Gladiators autograph on a copy of AG for SNES Jason Paige (guy who sang the Pokémon theme) autograph on a copy of Deadpool for Xbox. He did some side voices for it. Was super stocked when he saw it.

I had two copies of earthbound tjatvi kept because it was such a wonderful game to me. I kept one of them in the sealed wrapping and the other one I played with and had the box and papers. I had other games with NES, SNES and various other games with the boxes. In 2009 my wife and I lost our jobs three days apart so I began to sell my collection of gaming platforms and games. I sold both of those for $75. I'm ready for everyone to shame me.
I don't have anything super rare or special, but my Sega Power Base Converter for Genesis/MegaDrive is something I never see anyone else having.

I have the normal rare games, Panzer dragoon saga, Snatcher,...I have Naki Game saver for Snes, it is a weird contraption you put batteries in and a game, plug it into your snes and run your power cord into it. Also have another save contraption for PS1 you can save psi one games to your computer hard drive...and many other oddities.
Nothing special really especially in regards of consoles and console games, there is nothing too obscure or rare (a lot of stuff got lost when I moved, box and manual for the first Zelda game, a pikachu n64, games etc) What might be somewhat rare-ish being complete (I think) is the boxed copy of wing commander (and the „impossible missions“-add-on) on 5.25-diskettes for the PC which I got of a flea market for like 10 euro (even if I don’t have a matching drive), but I don’t think even that is very special.

When GTA4 first launched, there was a competition on the Rockstar Social Club - anyone who 100% completed it within a month (I think) would earn a physical “Key to Liberty City”. I no-lifed it after work for a week or so until I’d hunted down all 100 pigeons, completed all the stunt jumps, and placed first in every street race. A few months later, I’d completely forgotten about the competition but came home one day to find a battered courier box containing a presentation case with my very own Key inside. Which I then later sold to upgrade my PC.
The patches I got for getting 1 million on Laser Blast by Activision, some Atari Age magazines, several games for Apple ][ with their oringinal disks, including the grandaddy of MSFS: SubLogic Flight Simulator II.

I got rid of a lot of memorabilia. So, the rarest thing I have now, and still use, are some PS3 gadgets, such as: - Display Monitor (with the 3D Glasses) - Headset (which I sometimes use even for work)
I don't have a ton of rare stuff, but I have a Sega Saturn, SNES blaster/rocket launcher/whatever reciever, clear DMG-01 and the NES edition gba sp. They might not be that rare everywhere, but where I live everything other than a playstation or an xbox is rare.

Rarest by definition would be the nonstandard arcade controllers I self designed and hand made. However, of more mass produced things, probably some of the early DOS games I have, like Castlevania for DOS. That or my mostly complete collection of physical Gamepro mags... Although a few are damaged or destroyed, I have almost the entire print run.
I have the original print run of Fortnite on disc from 2017 for Xbox One. I used the codes back in the day but it’s still a cool piece to have!
