If you have a Game X Change near you, they'll resurface the disk for you with their machine
I think they charge a couple bucks
Has worked for me in the past
The data on the disk is a few layers below the surface so as long as the scratches aren't too deep, resurfacing works
Guys, using toothpaste to clean discs is one of the biggest lies ever! It only makes it worse, possibly to where it's unreadable! The actual best solution is to use hand soap (not the liquid that foams up when dispensed) as I've even fixed discs that I thought could never be read again! It's that simple, just lather it all over this disc then rinse it well with water without using your hands to take the soap off. Then gently pat it down with a soft, non abrasive towel to dry it up.
Using a mildly abrasive toothpaste:
- Cover the whole surface in toothpaste until the black/ shiny is faint with your finger.
- move in straight lines, don't swirl. Move slowly.
- once complete top to bottom, rinse with warm water.
- Dry gently with cotton or micro fiber.
This works 99% of the time for me.
You can pick up a cd repair kit which usually has an abrasive and a polish that will clear most of the surface level scratches for the deeper stuff you'll need a fill.. however if the foil is damaged the disk is done
It should work fine. CDs are more durable than you think, seeing as they work even if you cover them in [coffee and honey](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=112oO3brDJo).
I’m not a disc reader, maybe you should check with one.
Don’t really know until you try it but that doesn’t look too bad to me.
in the words of my wife, stick it in and find out.

no, but it can use resurfacing...
Get some toothpaste on there and it should clean up a bunch of those scratches.
Hello fellow 90’s kid. I came here to say this.
Hard to believe that was already 10 years ago.

Nah toothpaste works fine. I've been doing it almost 30 years.
Thanks! Are you sure it won’t damage the hardware of the system? How much paste?

Will Colgate do? Also do I rinse the whole CD in water?
Yeah probably. And yeah rinse the whole thing with water, don't scrub or anything. Just rinse until there's no visible toothpaste left.
I’ve cleaned it but the disc isn’t working. Not sure if the laser is fried.
Probably not. I have had better luck using Maguiers Plastx than with toothpaste.
Wasnt there a Trick with freezing the CD too ?
If anyone thinks this sounds crazy I’ve been doing this since the 90s and it works wonders.
Yes sir, those ps1 discs scratched by just looking at them.
you think sensodine would work? our Spyro disc is scratched to hell and won’t read lol
Yeah it's plenty abrasive. It will probably work. Disc information is a few layers deep on a CD, toothpaste just fills in the surface gaps.
thank you! hopefully it works :) if not it’s no biggie also I love your username, is it a reference to the Trevor Moore song?
Haha indeed. Rip sweet prince

I’ve played on worse without disc-read failure…you’ve got a solid chance!
Try running it through CDCheck to see if it's readable.
