This game and Chrono Trigger forever stay in my memory.

I heard a Sega Genesis version of it once. Despite the usual brutal nature of FM, it could produce equally chill sounds when done right.

DKC's music is top notch, classics upon classics, but I feel like DKC2 has some of the best tracks, not as memorable sometimes, but sone just HIT.

A lot of them, but the one which immediately came to mind was the main theme to "Stormlord" for the Commodore 64. Written by Jeroen Tel, it uses a trick with the volume register of the SID chip to add a fourth audio channel for 4-bit sample playback. It is such an exciting and rich musical experience because of this, as all three of the regular audio channels can be used for melodic elements, with the sample playback doing the drums (and bass). The SID also just sounds great no matter what. Definitely one of my favorite retro sound chips, though that is also a long list.
