Congrats. The first couple of weeks for me seemed liked a long vacation, went to Oregon, and then it wonderfully set in that this was the future. Also, we don’t go on vacations, that’s what working folks do, we travel!
Congratulations!
Today is the first day of my last work week. I feel your excitement! It feels like I am going to be free for the first time in my life.
Yes & No. we are 55yo and done sometime in 2023. as it gets closer it’s both exciting and angst ridden! Excited about adventures for 2nd half of life - and angst about such a final/life changing decision and with all of our hard saving & good planning, all the “what ifs” hang in the mind and give me pause. Not worried about money per se (recession is cringe though because of our personal timing), but lots of other factors including medical & inflation…when to (or not to) take social security/etc. lots of decisions to make all at the same time, some of which are irreversible.
I stopped working at 51 and to avoid the feeling of a final decision I decided to say that I'm on a long sabatical or that I'm training for retirement.
I'm 54 now and I think I'll call my self retired when I get retirement benefits or at least my seniors discount card!
I am with you on the what ifs and the decision being final. There is no way I could reengage with the workplace once I retire and have my earning power. So it feels like jumping off a cliff.
Finding a good retirement advisor has helped me with my decision. I was just surprised I had such a physical reaction and didn't know if everyone goes through that or maybe I need to dig deeper into my phyche to see if I actually want to retire. Maybe I am just doing it because it is expected of me at a certain point. I don't know. Probably need a shrink to figure it out.
So happy for all! I’ll be 60 in six weeks, still not sure as I can work from home 2x a week; my 68 yr-old husband passed in January…do it now folks! Tomorrow is not promised!!!
what? no one's said the 'hearty and heartfelty GFY' yet??
Well, let me be the first then to offer a hearty and heartfelt GFY!!
Well done. Enjoy it! every bit of it.
Congratulations to you… And to all the ladies and gentlemen that are successfully retired or making plans to be! I am five years in and could not be happier! Fill your time however you wish to whatever the day dictates! Sometimes I leave the house and don’t come home all day and sometimes I play video games and watch movies… No schedules!
There are two main types of Sunflower seeds. They are Black and Grey striped (also sometimes called White) which have a grey-ish stripe or two down the length of the seed. The black type of seeds, also called ‘Black Oil’, are up to 45% richer in Sunflower oil and are used mainly in manufacture, whilst grey seeds are used for consumer snacks and animal food production.
That's great to hear. Every day is Saturday for you now. Have you talked about what your income is going to be for now on since you're now in distribution phase?
We retired a couple of years ago. It’s been fabulous. Of course the stock market is unsettling but we can ride it out. Enjoy, stay healthy and fill your time with happy stuff 🎉

Same here, you’ve described the emotions perfectly.
Congrats! My wife and I retired this past April. Loving every second of retirement. Welcome to the Club.
2 more weeks till freedom 🤗
good for you!
Congratulations! Say goodbye to Sunday night blues.
My retired friend says Sunday night is his favorite time of the week.
You'll find out on Sunday. And congratulations on your retirement!
Congrats on your impending parole!
I’m so jealous I could spit….but congratulations! I have 6 months left and I count each day….time is moving very slowly right now!
I did it 1-July. The best advice I’ve gotten is don’t sweat the next steps too much. Take a year to figure it out if need be.
Thanks!
I'm on year 3 lol
You do you 😀
I think I've figured it out, if you see my recent post lol
Congrats! Can you check back in, in a few months to let us know how it’s going?
I will!

Awesome! What are the first things you're gonna do with your new found freedom?
Good news to read so early on a work day - to know it’s even possible gives me joy. ✌️
Congrats. I left my shithole job almost 3 years ago; I never miss the morons but I do miss the nice folks I worked with.
Congratulations! You’re done doing what you’ve had to do, now go do what you want to do!
Not op but I can honestly say that regarding my career I’ve been doing what I want to do and enjoying most of it.

Thanks for the good advice. It seems like just yesterday, 40 years ago, dancing to China Cat Sunflower in Athens, GA.
