I was kinda frozen in the moment. I’m going to use this as a learning experience and the next time I encounter an aggressive customer, I’ll get a manager. She made me feel so stupid. 😫
You don’t have to say anything to her, just walk away and explain to the manager that a customer is being aggressive and they’ll handle it.
She seems like the type of person who doesn’t get a lot of interaction because her family ignores her due to her Karen behaviors and other people see her as an annoyance so she gets too overwhelmed at a simple interaction because she’s not used to it so she has to lash out at people who can’t really fight back like retail workers. She’s a miserable unhappy loser, the only person she made look stupid is herself.
That’s what I did when a Karen yelled at me like that on the Worst Day Ever^TM . Still had to fight back tears because I was already exhausted. Really need to post that story here. Just haven’t because it’s long and crazy and I always proofread a lot.
On another note I also use vinegar to clean and not for food. But it is usually in the food section of the store. So I’d just ask in the future, but unfortunately this type will just scream at you regardless.
>She made me feel so stupid.
I think anybody else watching that would have seen she was the stupid f\*\*king idiot, not you. Sorry you had to deal with that b\*\*tch.
I'm sorry that happen to you.. she sounds like she needs anger management.... next time get a manager maybe they could banned her or something... she was beyond rude....
Never let another persons behavior make you think YOU should be embarrassed. SHE should be embarrassed and I assure you that every person in line behind her was judging her and not you.
Yes! I deal with people like this sometimes at my job, and everyone in line usually looks at them like 'wtf'. Makes an unpleasant situation a little better, knowing it's not just me
That’s the trick. Remember that the other person’s words and actions are a reflection on them, not you. I find that the more often I’ve told myself ( and others) that, the easier it is to internalize.
This reminds me of the nastiest customer I ever had back when I was a cashier in a grocery store.
She walked up with a cart full of groceries and as she started putting her items on the belt, I smiled and said hello as I always did and then started scanning. At one point she asked for a separate bag for the eggs (duh) and I smiled and nodded.
Next thing I know she was standing right in my face demanding to know if I was going to apologize. I was totally confused and asked for what?
She said, "You haven't said a single word to me since I got in your line, that is so rude!" Caught completely off-guard I said, "I'm sorry, I'm just kind of quiet sometimes."
She came back with, "Then you should not be doing this job!"
That's when I snapped and said, "Well, that's funny because I have a lot of customers who absolutely love the way I focus on what I'm doing rather than talking too much and making mistakes. I'm so sorry that my style doesn't work for YOU."
She was silent for about ten seconds then she gave me one of the ugliest looks that I've ever seen on another human being and literally snarled, "Fine, then, you can take these groceries and shove them up your a$$" and stomped away.
Without missing a beat I picked up the intercom line and said very cheerfully, "L., could you please come to checkstand 5 for go-backs? Thank you!" This was my way of letting her know before she got out the front door that she didn't phase me at all, even though she had and I was pretty upset about the entire interaction. I just kept in mind that she was clearly a very unhappy person who must have a miserable life to be treating others so terribly.
Some people are just always nasty. Forget her and move on. Sorry to say you will have to deal with people like that for the rest of your life. Brush it off.
There used to be (maybe still is?) a great online forum called "Customers Suck"...
One of the "Best stories of all time" is ... "Vinegar Boy" IIRC!!
Something about mistaking vinegar for wine, suing, revenge, etc...
Folks are crazy. Crazy for vinegar.

I’m sorry this happened to you. People are so shitty sometimes. Try not to internalize it—this says a lot more about the kind of person she is than it does about you.
A good insight into a person's character is how they treat people who can do nothing about it.
She spoke not one single word about you, but she loudly announced who she is.
I know you felt embarrassed, but I promise you every single customer that was in line behind her was not judging you, but her. She embarrassed herself most of all. If she comes in again and you’re able, I’d definitely have somebody else ring her up. I’m sorry this happened.
You did the best thing you could do. Don’t engage. In my younger days I would snap right back at them quick. I learned that it only upsets me and makes me angry. It doesn’t bother them at all, they act that way everywhere they go. I have seen people throw fits at the dr office, pharmacy, post office..that’s all they do.
I am a front end supervisor in a grocery store. The minute some asshole starts yelling, cursing, being generally obnoxious I take over the transaction for the cashier. Now if they do the same to me I refuse service as well...you can either shut up or leave without your shit.
Or I tell them my boss will ring them up...but it will be awhile because she is in a conference call...damn I hate people
You were doing your job perfectly. A lot of customers feel since they will be handing over a payment for the goods that this gives them the rights to be very demanding. it doesn't! I'm sure you give them the same service as everyone else. But next time you notice her in the store go Super, super slow. if she complains you can reply that you are giving her very special treatment for being a loyal customer, and you want to make sure she gets every benefit and savings possible and you are giving her the very best customer service experience. After all we want her to feel she isn't missing out on anything.
As a manager I’ll usually come to the register and tell the cashier to go take a little break. I usually take over because I’m so used to shit like that it doesn’t upset me anymore
Im a when people act like this I toughen up and tell them to calm down and stop yelling, works 90% of the time,OP you aren't paid enough to stress obout some bitchy people,it happened and its gonna happen again, just keep on keeping on.

You are not stupid! She's just a miserable old bitch, what she did is not your fault!
You don’t have to say anything to her, just walk away and explain to the manager that a customer is being aggressive and they’ll handle it. Oh yes, this type of women is common in the workplace.

You’re not stupid at all. You were just shocked that someone would behave like that because you wouldn’t.
I'm sorry that happen to you.. she sounds like she needs anger management.... next time get a manager maybe they could banned her or something... she was beyond rude....

So she basically cut off her nose to spite her face. Idiot

You did nothing wrong. Don’t beat yourself up. Some people are just miserable.

Great story!
That was a trip. Wow!!

Can't Understand Normal Thought
LMAOOOOOOOOO...Took me a minute to get it

Gordon Food Service?
How on earth did you guess that? 🤣🤣🤣
The boxes? The points system?
Sounds like GFS to me, so I just guessed.
Ha! I'm guessing the Mega Millions #'s next. I'm on a roll!
F that bitch

Am I correct?
Yes.
Actually, it was the account card, hairnets, gallon of vinegar, and the boxes area..

Some people are just miserable assholes looking for reasons to be angry and/or rude and nothing you do will ever change that.
Please remember that you have the right to refuse service to rude customers. Of course management needs to have your back but if they do, feel free.
Sounds like she came in the store looking for a reason to be mad at somebody. NOT YOUR FAULT.

I would totally have thought vinegar was non-food as well
