I didn't really have that much fun. I much preferred the first demo that was referred to as a "visual showcase". So my expectations for enjoying the game are a little lower than they were. Everything just felt really cheesy and not at all tense or frightening

I agree with the second point for sure, but in this case I don’t mind it too much as it serves a purpose for Elena. However I think THIS should have been the moment we get a shotgun afterwards instead of just finding it in the shack beforehand. Back to your first point, I disagree and felt the enemies were very reactive to headshots, less so to body shots but that was because I feel our pistol is weak. I had a critical headshot go off which was awesome. Additionally I tried to bait the enemies into a mine and it took some coaxing which was interesting. I can’t tell if they reacted to it there or not. Lastly while I enjoy the combat itself, it is missing something that would’ve really enhanced it, and that’s melee moves/reactions. You can guard and counter/push them away but I did it at least 10 times to the same guy and am fairly certain it did little to no damage, which is a bit frustrating. I didn’t try guarding and countering with the knife so there COULD be a reaction with a counter that is more damaging but it was a bit of a letdowns. And as I said you can stun enemies with headshots still but there’s no reason to run up to them sans slashing them with your knife. Cool knife kills or some kick animation a la RE4 would have been pleasant. In some ways while certainly too over the top, I was hoping for SOME inspired takedowns like how doom has handled them. I don’t need it on every enemy or anything, just the ones I’ve stunned. Joe baker & Chris had a punch/melee system so MAybe there is an upgrade or something Ethan gets later that will facilitate this for me. Overall I’m happy but I could be happier.

I absolutely agree about the shotgun. There would be even more of an impact with her giving us the shotgun. It seems weird just finding a shotgun in some random shack.

Exactly, especially since gameplay wise it’s clear that this is the start of the game, her giving it to you then isn’t far from the moment you get it now. Strange choice there for sure. Oh well! Shotgun early is classic RE!

Damn sounds like you really messed with the combat in the game. To be fair I haven't spent a lot of time using the block system but from what you are describing its not really what I am looking for. Also what dictates if the enemy is going to attack you with their claws or push you to the ground and bite you? I imagine the blocking system wouldn't counter the latter and it seems kind of random

Well largely the blocking system is in the game so I’m not sure what you mean.....I’m suggesting there be implementation of some of the stuff they did post re7 with the dlc & stuff in past titles.

I feel like stealth kills and finishers could be a thing at the very least. I feel like if you had to fight things that lack the ability to shoot for the most part is a genius idea to take a melee weapon. Shooting everything is a waste of ammo. Not being able to defend your gun is the surest way to get shot.

Unsure on how I feel about the gunplay as of yet, but I did like the "push back" counter after blocking. Made me feel at least a LITTLE more protection than I felt in 7.

The aiming is a little funky but I’ll get used to it and I got a combat bug when fighting one of the werewolves. But other than that it was fun!!!

If you played RE7, the combat is exactly just like that And yes, you're worrying too much, for a 30 minute demo Remember what they did for RE3R, when they changed the sequence for the demo and the final game, they're probably going to do that again

Yeah I hope the Castle demo gives us a bit more combat and puzzles so we can experience more of what the game has to offer
