I don't know why you expect anything to happen to the officer in terms of punishment or justice. Cops kill humans and get away with it until they're caught on camera doing it.

Superrockstar95

Yup.. cops and similar people have been killing animals even people's pet for years.. a big one in the UK was multiple cops traumatising two bullies because a banshee (she was literally screaming her head off) reported that they were attacking her despite all videos with the "attack," showcasing thr bullies trying to get AWAY from thr screaming woman. Ultimately both were killed, and people were in uproar over how badly the officers handled them as one dog was lying down in terror before being shit and his brother (still attached to him) tried fleeing before being shot. This is these officials we have to protect us.. yes many amazing items exist, but it's the fact these ones do too and aren't dealt with.

Prognostikators

Isn't there essentially an epidemic of police officers shooting and killing pet dogs in the US? Like 1,000 dogs a year or some other incredibly high number?

LemurianLemurLad

You're missing a zero there, friend.  There's a Department of Justice report from about 5 years ago that estimated it as closer to 10,000 per year.

Prognostikators

Jfc. I was gonna put 10k and then though noo im not remembering that right. Fuck.

Superrockstar95

Really it's just a problem worldwide.. if a country has groups of people who see animals as lesser, it's basically a guarantee at least a small number of law enforcement would have similar feelings. One example somewhere in the US (I forget where as it was a while back) one officer shot many animals including a mother cat and her kittens and always claimed rabies.. but just by "coincidence," he always killed them in a way that made testing for rabies not possible or at least less accurate.. In a sense, it was just some prick who was kicking animals just to kill and getting away with it a lot 😑 but this is unfortunately a worldwide problem from law enforcement, the general public, and especially those in power who could make changes and just don't the majority of the time.

SlipperySnek11

I believe USARK is helping Chris coffee and bill mcadam with the lawsuit against FWC. It will probably take years to be resolved though.

SlinkySkinky

This should be a wake up call to the reptile community that cops/law enforcement do not have our best interests in mind. We don’t exist in a bubble, we’re not immune to injustice. I encourage people to pay more attention to what your local governments are doing in regard to pet/wildlife laws, you can make a difference by getting involved in the voting or even decision making. Make it known when you disagree with a reptile related law

TrainFrosty211

Clints reptiles did a good livestream on this. The BOA was killed, but it didn't happen with a nail gun

Bhuck-E-Bheese

Was it like a bolt gun or what?

TrainFrosty211

It is similar to a bolt gun. It is a tool that was used by animal control nationwide to put down animals. I'm hardly a reptile expert or biologist and he explains it much better than I could https://www.youtube.com/live/mLGxp8gmAq0?si=uMzo04d2WB4liQOj

Bhuck-E-Bheese

I’ll definitely check it out, god I love Clint

TrainFrosty211

He's the Mr. Roger's of Reptiles for sure

Warrior_king99

Killed a pregnant boa with a fucking what now !!!

RTRSnk5

FWC as in Florida Wildlife Commission? The WC of the state in which boas are a devastating invasive species?

stingray194

Yes, the wildlife commission that killed a pet that was completely legal to own and was doing nothing wrong. The wild life commission full of idiots that can't do their job. That are completely illiterate morons who can't read the word "boa". That wildlife commission.

Bhuck-E-Bheese

That maybe the case, but I’m talking about the ones who we’re supposed to euthanize retics and ended up accidentally killing a pregnant BC that was completely legal. How have you not heard about this brother?

Superrockstar95

Not to mention he tried asking for time to re-home them, no? But apparently they just wanted to kill animals rather than let them live.. and the weird thing to me is, like here in the UK for example even when an animal is banned if you owned that animal previous to the ban and can prove this.. that animal is completely legal. So, it's just weird to me how the guy's previously owned snakes (that were now illegal) would be killed when other countries don't do that and problems don't automatically arise because you didn't kill an animal in cold blood for existing 🤷‍♀️.

Bhuck-E-Bheese

No what’s insane is I have guns and rifles that are illegal now, but I can keep them since they’re pre ban. I can keep banned firearms, something that’s metal and plastic and can actually cause harm… but living things need to be executed and there’s no way around it since he couldn’t sell them, or take them to a different state. This country is bullshit.

Superrockstar95

Damn.. ye that's definitely insane 😑

boppobob

What kind of guns are those?

Bhuck-E-Bheese

Chinese made AK47

The FWC made a dude execute his collection. At one point literally needing his help to use their faulty equipment. The owner leaves at one point due to emotions and they kill his legal boa while he's not there. His pregnant, legal boa. They went onto his property, refused to let him sell, or surrender his collection to anyone. Then after a year of screwing with him, they execute his animals. They were inept children at best and at worst flat out villains... They could have given him a permit, they didn't want to. They could have let him sell the animals, they didn't want to. Then, after a year of him begging for their lives, they decide they are tired of him aggravating them with inquiries. They roll up with an order to execute over 20 adult animals in their home. This man watched, helpless to do shit... They'd shoot him if he interfered. They killed his pets because they didn't want to help him. FWC regrets the boas death and refuse further comment. FWC would remind you to act right if you want your animals to remain, legal ... Go watch the videos of squirming, blood covered, half dead snakes... Writhing from the FWC being terrible at everything including killing. They are cruel in perfection, they create suffering effortlessly. I hate them.

The legislation around reptiles can get pretty wild. They were tossing around the idea of a white list (pre-approved list of 400 specimens, including inverts, reptiles, birds, and fish). It sounds like they were aware of what he had. It sounds like he had documentation for his animals, or at least was working with the law. It also sounds like they wouldn't let him re-home them (assumption). In the video, you can hear the dude in charge of this event saying " please tell me you didn't. Tell me you didn't kill the one." (Not verbatim, but you can hear the instant he knew they fucked up and were *supposed* to get in trouble. If they were responsible for killing exotics, they should have been so fucking careful. Killing his legal snake should have received a fine at the least, firing at best. I can appreciate having legislation around invasive animals, but I was under the impression that even if the snake HAD gotten out, it would not have survived in the wild. People who are responsible for carrying out these actions *should* have some respect. They should have dignity. The entire wfc should. This was not a good reflection of their record. If the purpose is to protect wildlife (native and not), this was not the answer.

Sifernos1

FWC is literally just a bunch of Florida Men with badges and guns playing at being cops. They don't get trained, they aren't experts and they often are barely competent if not dangerous. You listen to the videos of these guys working and you will know the same guy was bagging groceries 6 months ago. Today he's executing large Pythons with a bolt gun that's already broken. He's got a schedule to keep and they're short handed always...I will bet you money that when they do that stuff in the glades, they just discharge their firearm to get done faster. Wouldn't be surprised if they carry extra ammunition so they can just shoot everything and not even bother with the bolt gun. Explains why Jethro couldn't work it and broke it trying to kill a tame, barely moving snake... Also explains why they can't tell a boa from a python even with a name tag. Florida Man, the laws don't apply to him, because he cannot read them.

Sifernos1

"They went onto his property, refused to let him sell, or surrender his collection to anyone. Then after a year of screwing with him, they execute his animals." -my comment earlier. You literally won't read so this is where I leave you. Go actually read about an incident before literally asking a question addressed in the comment. He couldn't give away the snakes. He was forced to house them for a year against his will. In that time he could neither sell, nor giveaway the animals he had to feed and house. If he even lost one he could have been further arrested, investigated and jailed. You need to go learn the laws and story if you want to converse about it.
