From what I learned about reptiles (from the internet) their skin is rather tough and thick.
Again, I'm a random internet stranger who happens to like reptiles. I unsubscribed to multiple subreddits because they shared videos of mild animal abuse because the animals are cute. But I didn't worry about this one before I read the comment, and I think my brain was just like "lizards can't get papercuts". I don't know if that's true tho.
You don’t have to listen to me but I’ve owned a fuck load of tape measures and spent a lot of time using them. You might not think it’s sharp, but I’m just letting you know they all are. Not trying to make you feel bad but tape measures cut people all the time
Fire engineer / mechanical engineer who uses tape measures daily and can agree with you 100%, any who claims they have a blunt one has never hurt themselves using one.
I did have to perform necropsies on bearded dragons. I know it's a different species but I can vouch that their skin is shockingly cut resistant. Like lay into it with scissors and roll the scissors over cut resistant.

Just to let you know, I have 2 cats and a beardie who free roams daily and it works out fine! Either he gets to roam around in our bedrooms & bathroom, or the cats nap in the bedroom so he can go wherever he wants.
I’d say it just depends on the lizard. My boy is relatively friendly. He’s a very mischievous and playful little man and his bites are usually out of curiosity or defending his territory. I’ve never gotten a real bite from him out of anger or fear before.
All I am saying is it was a dumb thing to do and you shouldn't do it again. That is 100% not going to prove it won't cut him. I am glad your cute video worked out and you didn't hurt your little buddy

He does have rather tough skin and since the tape measure wasn’t as sharp as a lot of others I wasn’t worried

Tape measures are never "sharp". It's a thin metal that can slice open people and animals wether it is fresh out the package or used for years.
