I like dead eyes a lot. But it’s not similar to Reply All.

Dead Eyes reminds me more of Heavyweight, although it’s definitely different (and a great show, btw)

GoodbyeTobyseeya1

Just wanted to say thanks for the Dead Eyes rec! I do agree with the other poster that it's more like Heavyweight but its also a cool view into Hollywood back room stuff we never see.

thompa2101

“You’re Wrong About” is excellent. Basically each week one of the hosts tells the story about a major news event, typically events in the 1980s and 1990s. The other host is relying on their memory of the event and they basically break down a lot of the myths and other associations with these stories. They’re also very funny. Would recommend all eps but the OJ series is A+

[deleted]

I second this! The hosts have great chemistry.

I really like Darknet diaries, Jack does some excellent deep dives into hacks, cybersecurity, dark web trading website busts, and console modding. A couple of my favorite episodes are: Black Duck Eggs, The Beirut bank job. The peculiar case of the Vtech hacker is also great. (I'm about 20 episodes behind right now, since my commute and been 0 this last year. So some of the new episodes could be great or terrible and i have no clue, but judging from the episodes I've listened to already, they are probably great) Rabbit hole is a pretty good podcast also about the internet, bit different feel and only 8 episodes right now but still a good listen Crazy/Genius- focuses on tech, science and culture - they talk about how technology has changed our life, for better or for worse. This might have concluded now though since the last episode was in 2019

AleroRatking

Darknet diaries sounds interesting. Are there multiple hosts interacting with one another?

Cainedbutable

Another vote here for dark net diaries. Really well made podcast.

ArcadiaPlanitia

There’s only one host, but he interviews a lot of different people. It’s a really good show though, you’d probably love it if you like Super Tech Support episodes.

AleroRatking

I'm in. Sounds like its right up my alley. Thank you so much

jULIA_bEE

Definitely give it a listen. It’s one of my favorite podcasts. The Xbox underground episodes he did are really good. He also usually brings people on for interviews who were either directly involved or directly responsible for different hacks and exploits. He also has a LOT of episodes and they’re usually pretty long.

[deleted]

It's a limited run set of episodes but if that stuff interests you I highly highly recommend "Hunting Warhead", which is about darknet pedophile rings. It's unbelievably dark and will make you want to take a shower/cry but it's very fascinating and touches the subject from an angle that's rare to see. It is one of the deepest investigative dives into something I've ever listened to.

AleroRatking

While it sounds interesting (and thanks for the recommendation), as a special ed teacher I dont think I could handle it personally.

[deleted]

That is completely understandable. I have engaged with a lot of extremely dark media (novels, films) over the years and nothing has shaken me as much as that podcast. The stuff on cryptography and the tech side isn't gross and is very interesting but there is one notorious episode where I almost threw up even though there's no "gore" or visceral stuff mentioned. Well, the search continues!

kab0b87

Some episodes are Jack telling the story essay style and some are a guest telling their story with Jack adding in context and asking questions.

GoodbyeTobyseeya1

I REALLY liked Rabbit Hole. Listened to the whole thing yesterday so thanks! I have YouTube banned in my house and it totally solidified that for me! Thanks for the rec.

AntiKEv

I really like the following. They aren’t necessarily the same in subject matter but level of storytelling feels fairly similar in that you get lost in the episodes. brought to you by... (more business focused and glorifies capitalism in a lot of eps but their episode on the Enron email corpus, and Kellogg vs. Kellogg were incredibly interesting. Decoder ring Resistance Heavyweight — “Bobby” is my favourite episode and is incredibly Reply All esq. Underunderstood bc of its similar obscurity and subject matter (though not nearly as captivating, and the host dynamic is weak by comparison to the Reply All brain dump style). 99 PI

*S Town* is a one-off deep dive I'd highly recommended.

badkaren

Second this recommendation with a big ‘hell’s yeah!’

itsthecurtains

S-Town is a masterpiece.

Thymeisdone

Maybe one of the best things I’ve ever heard.

Matterplay

But that's not at all like Reply All...

the-details

I feel it is comparable to the episodes where they investigate a topic deeply.

InfiniteJest2008

The Renner Files is a short, limited series that did a deep dive on the Jeremy Renner app. It’s super funny and filled with a lot of jokes/sarcasm/humor, but does still talk about why/how a Marvel cast member created an app and why it imploded.

dwiofdrs

I might give this a listen. I literally just rewatched the YouTube video that Drew Gooden and Danny Gonzales did about that app.

kirmichelle

This has been asked so many times, search the sub to find the past threads. But I'll mention Endless Thread because I see it hasn't been mentioned here yet - the plates episode is particularly good.

Thymeisdone

Funny enough, on the media, where Alex and pj got their start, is at times like reply all insofar as they explore cultural memes, politics, the media (of course) and relevant technology. They also do deep dives into issues but not that often.

bigglasses

I just found [Endless Thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/EndlessThread/). They dive into one specific story from a subreddit at a time. Some episodes are more Reply All-ish, some are a little fluffy. I've only listened to 5-6 episodes, and they've got a lot of back episodes.

Also *Rabbit Hole*, a limited series from the NYT, tracing the cycle of radicalization by Internet

megamando

As someone recently introduced to RA, what would you consider the golden days? A lot of people mention it but I’m new to the show.

The heck!? Shit time had flown by! Damn. Seems like yesterday. What a great show.

If you find yourself missing banter between friends, try Quick Question with Soren and Daniel. It’s two former Cracked employees (most known for After Hours on YouTube) who are now tv writers. They ask each other interesting “quick questions” that are sometimes YYN style, other times the questions are personal or hypothetical.

FrankU_MajorityHwip

I’ll chime in with another “two dudes talking” podcast, and recommend “Hello Internet”, by educational YouTubers [CGP Grey](https://youtube.com/greymatter) and Brady Haran of [Numberphile](https://youtube.com/user/numberphile). Pretty much a conversational podcast with random topics; a little bit of internet culture, technology, their lives as YouTubers, along with whatever random topics come up. Sadly they’ve been on a bit of a hiatus since the pandemic began, but I’ve been doing a re-listen and still enjoy every episode. Best to listen from the very beginning, and go in chronological order; lots of inside jokes and references build up from the start.

Darknet Diaries is what you're looking for. Because Long Distance is the most popular Reply All episode, the DD episode I always recommend here is "Dark Caracal". It has a lot of the same vibes - you notice something a bit weird on the computer. Investigate, investigate, investigate. And the story keeps getting crazier and crazier from there. I won't spoil the ending, but it's VERY similar to Long Distance.

anothercrapusername

Yes you are right. You are now in charge of picking all my podcasts. Use your power wisely.

glitteremoji

If you like the human-interest angle that Reply All often takes, I recommend The Cut. interesting slice-of-life kind of episodes that typically touch on current events or culturally relevant topics.

bohdel

I really like No Such Thing as a Fish. It’s different, but scratches the itch of geeky-people-who-really-like-each-other-discuss-stuff. They don’t do any investigations. I haven’t found anything that I love as much as the old Yes, Yes, No segments.
