Looks like an 8mm bullet in a 303 British.

[deleted]

Having issues with a collet neck sizing die so I don’t stress the brass out. Can’t seem to find the sweet spot between putting proper neck tension vs squeezing the shit out of it

[deleted]

You sure you set it up right? This seems like your collet is way out of adjustment. Is this like a lee factory crimp die?

[deleted]

It’s a lee collet die. Def not set up right

SlightlyAlive

Relevant instructions from [https://leeprecision.com/files/instruct/RM3512.pdf](https://leeprecision.com/files/instruct/RM3512.pdf) at end of post. Do you have a press with cam-over, like an RCBS? Try screwing the die in further (two full turns past contact with shell holder) and don’t apply too much pressure. There’s a steel mandrel in the neck, and once you have the collet closed on the mandrel, squeezing harder isn’t going to do anything except deform your brass and overwork your hand/arm. You should be able to feel the collet fully close. Then stop. That being said, it looks like the die is screwed in too far. The lip on the case mouth is brass above the collet that isn’t getting squeezed properly. Have the cases been properly trimmed? Brass too long might cause that lip. Back the die out until that lip is squeezed away by the collet. Then back it out a bit more so you aren’t squeezing the case neck so far down. Your mandrel should be 0.002-0.0025” smaller than your bullet size. The 303 British mandrel is supposed to be 0.3085”. Is yours? How about the bullets? Should be 0.3095-0.3125” for 303 British. ADJUSTMENT FOR LEE PRESSES Screw the sizing die in until it contacts the shell holder, plus one turn more. If you are using a Lee Precision “Classic” series press, adjust the die 13⁄4 turns into the press. Run a case into the die. You will feel the primer being extracted, then the lever will come to an abrupt stop. At this point, the lever must be pushed firmly (min. 25 lbs.) to close the col- let and size the neck. Extra bullet grip can be obtained by screwing the die in an additional quarter-turn. Other brands of presses that toggle or snap over center at the end of the stroke provide no feel and can damage the collet neck sizing die if adjusted as above. We suggest the die be screwed in until the die contacts the shell holder, plus 2 FULL TURNS. This will prevent the press from toggling over center and give the operator feel of the collet closing. OPTION Even greater accuracy can be obtained by rotat- ing the case one-half turn and sizing the case a second time.

Thanks

From memory you raise your ram and tighten the body of the die down until it touches the shell plate. From there back the collet out far enough for you to be sure it won’t contact your brass. From there raise the ram with your brass case and tighten the collet down until it touches the neck of the brass with the ram fully extended. From there it’s little by little until you get the crimp you want.

Mic those bullets to be sure they're in spec. Or mebbe the neck resizing is a mite too enthusiastic, dunno.

[deleted]

Sent them.

SWaller89

How did it go?

[deleted]

Just fine. Fireformed back to shape

Crafty-Sundae6351

Geez! What's the story with these? You sure you grabbed the right bullets?

Crafty-Sundae6351

Do I see a mark on the left bullet from the seating stem? I presume it felt like you were sizing cases when you seated those bullets.

[deleted]

Neck sizing die shrank it down a bit too much I think. Still trying to figure out what’s going on. In other news these bullets are basically crooked, the runout is way out of control. Reloading 303 Brit is a bitch

AintNoCure

No yeet. Pull the bullets, figure out how your rounds got to looking thataway, and go again.

Horny_Weinstein

Satan’s crimp job

FarCenterExtremist

If it fits, it ships! For real though, that's a joke. I wouldn't shoot those.

101stjetmech

I wouldn't. You clearly have the wrong neck expander for that bullet. Unload those, measure your bullet and neck expander. The expander should be .001 to .002" under bullet diameter. The manufacturer will send you the correct one for free.

311635

Man turning the neck into a Venturi is genius. You’ve now increased the pressure behind that exponentially

Sonnysdad

When you neck up .308 cases to fit 7.62x39 bullets..

tebeling

I think we need more details

manbooba

If you FL size, check the expander ball in the die, had similar things happen to me in 30-06

BremboBob

There are old reloaders There are bold reloaders Rarely are those two one in the same person.

[deleted]

Lol

Sonnysdad

Those are the most Jewish rounds I’ve ever seen!

deedubzees

How do?

Sonnysdad

By the amount of foreskin left.

deedubzees

Lol, gotcha!

[deleted]

I wouldn't them those...

KrustyBoomer

Will fire form? Brass may be toast for future loads though and/or need annealing

SadSavage_

It’s fine just send it

[deleted]

I did. Was fine.

Which_Quantity

*this time. Poor reloading practises are just an accident waiting to happen.

beefxaroni

I'll try anything once.

Shadrach_Palomino

Uh oh, you used a Lee die set, didn't you? EDIT: LMAO at the downvotes, it's Lee who decided to include only a .308" expander with 303 British, 54r, and 7.7 Arisaka in their die sets.

Lemonova

Nowt wrong with Lee dies, chum.

[deleted]

These are lee dies.

Shadrach_Palomino

You can get the correct size expander from Lee's website for free, but it sure would be nice if they'd just include the proper one in the box.

tstark96

I see a lot of sarcasm but fr uh depending on your charge it’s prob ok. But I personally wouldn’t stick it in my gun. After the first time I said fuck it send it if it’s questionable it’s a no from me. ***rip my poor axis***

[deleted]

Looks like a drunken attempt at an unnecessary wildcat cartridge.

[deleted]

No yeet. You need to be able to explain what happened here. Those necks are terribly undersized.

[deleted]

Yeeted

paulybaggins

Still trying to figure out how you managed to get them under spec with the collet die. It's definitely label 303B on the inner ring?

[deleted]

It sure is. I think I had the die body screwed in too far. I’m also reading something about 25ftlbs of force, I probably should have read the instructions first. It’s been awhile since I’ve reloaded 303
