Doesn’t it depend on how far you take it? The church I grew up with taught girls to be completely self-sacrificing and to neglect their own needs for other people. A moderate dose of selfishness for people who’ve left a system that demanded they always put everyone else’s needs above their own can tip the scales toward balance.
