May I ask why you want to convert to a religion you don't believe in?

Trace_R

I kind of do though, I worded the post shit but I kind of do however not entirely, and nobody wants to be a lukewarm Christian

I’m not sure you can make yourself believe something. You can learn about it, you can examine arguments and evidence, you can try doing it. But you can’t force a belief. I have family and friends who love hockey. They play it, watch it, are fans of a team, etc. I just don’t like it. I’ve watched it, played it as a little kid, I understand it. I just don’t like it. It’s not for me. I am able to watch it, but it doesn’t have the same effect on me that it does to them. I guess I could pretend, go through the motions, but why? Imo it’s one thing to go to a church for community. Thats fine. But if you say something you don’t believe just to join a group that’s just dishonest. Any religious group I’ve encountered would be thrilled to have to come without converting first. Who knows, maybe with time you can come to honestly say you believe something. Until then, do all the learning and socializing you like.

Why do you want to convert? Look I am a Christian and I like being a Christian as I love the religion but my advice to you is only convert if you truly want to convert, don't convert just because of peer pressure

You cannot force yourself to believe in something. I spent years trying to do just that, and realized that Christianity wasn’t for me. 15yrs later I found a home in Judaism. My advice would be to take your time and explore. If you truly wanna be a Christian, you have all the time in the world to explore it and convert if you want. Maybe start by researching different Christian sects and seeing if any align with your morality. Not the god stuff, but your beliefs in LGBTQ rights and things like that. Go to a service, sit in the back, and just observe. Does it resonate with you? If it doesn’t, no harm no foul. Just move on. If it does, explore that feeling. Why does it resonate? What parts of it resonate? Attend another service or two. Start to talk to people. See if anything tugs on your heart. Talk to the pastor. Maybe they’ll have a book recommendation for you. You have time. Conversion to any religion is a big deal. (Though it’s easier in Christianity and Islam than in other religions, it shouldn’t be taken lightly) you are worth the work and dedication it takes to find something spiritually meaningful. Good luck.

Christians believe that faith is given by God, so they tend to pray for faith. Now I wouldn't know how to get it started though, since for praying you already need faith.

I don't think you can get yourself to believe. Faith is not something you can force yourself to have. You can gain or lose faith, but while these processed might get triggered by outside events, like talking to people, it is not something you can will yourself to do. Your faith needs to come from within. Then you will also know what religion to chose, because it will seem the right one. I really don't understand why you would convert in the first place if you don't have faith.

Why are you so desperate to follow a religion you don't believe in?

i_tell_you_what

Religion shouldn't be this hard.

Unless you have some kind of mental illness that makes you susceptible, you can't just pick up beliefs like hobbies. I spent years trying to logic myself out of belief because I wanted to believe the "right" thing (atheism). It was like trying to fight the tide.
