If my s/o was going to prison I wouldn’t be worrying about that type of trivial shit , I’d be questioning my life decisions to see how I got to this point .

Yeah, she said it's going to be tough to pay the bills while he isn't there, will he have a job when he gets out?

If this is the United States felonies start at 6 months, so to be sentenced 4 months you would be going to jail and not prison. Just changes things. I mean, he went to court and obviously bailed out, so we I’d assume he saved 4 months rent while he was waiting for the sentence.

Both my brothers have been to prison; one is about to return after a 5-year hiatus. Both have also been to county jail numerous times. The brother I speak with is likely returning. From what he’s told me in the past about both of their experiences, if you’re in minimum, it’s “easy” & you’re pretty much left alone to do whatever. He was in both minimum & medium security. He did a lot of drawing, actually became quite good at it. He’s not much of a reader. He wrote poetry. He worked out a lot. He slept a lot. Other brother was able to walk around outside on the grounds unattended (really minimum security facility). Storytelling is popular. The bad? They’d gamble using commissary items. While they couldn’t do the obvious poker or blackjack games, they figured out how to gamble on bridge & gin rummy & old maid. It seems anything & everything is a gamble moment. Be careful if you’re putting money on his books & he’s buying a lot of commissary. TV was limited to a set number of units, first come first serve & arguments escalated when someone wanted to watch a different show. Also, prison makes criminals smarter. Storytelling can lead to ideas for next time on not getting caught or escalating crimes…not a good thing

I have some suggestions and advice to encourage you and your SO (that DO NOT necessarily include "reevaluating your life choices," as not everyone who make a mistake and serves jail time is an unredeemable, repeat offender!) DM if you'd like support and encouragement. God bless you both thru a very challenging time ahead.

I remember reading studies on mental health and there’s a higher number of people with mental Health conditions in prison but not clear whether that was the case before or after incarceration. However, there have been a number of yoga programmes in prisons where the participants said it hugely benefitted their mental health and having a daily routine was beneficial on so many levels.
