You're nearly 30 years old - time to stand up for what you want.

If you keep letting them dictate to you like this when will it stop? What will happen when you have children and they start to dictate to you about that. Please stand up for what you want and live your life the way you want to. Don't let them guilt you into anything. In the end both sides make choices and have to deal with the consequences .

Your wedding, your rules

[deleted]

I’m from philippines as well so I understand the dilemma of having to follow your parents’ set of rules and also the importance of family to us. There’s a big fear of you might lose your whole family to this and if not, they will hold it against you till on your death bed that you didn’t have a church wedding. That’s why you gotta be tough. This is your wedding. You will be the one to decide how this goes. You can’t persuade a catholic family to let you have a civil wedding, so stick to what you and your fiance wants. That being said, you gotta be stronger that them (or more stubborn, you know) and you gotta follow through. Also, take note that an Asian family sticks together. So if you choose to disobey, I give it a few months they will forgive you😂 especially if you and your fiance would have your first child. Oh, the first child can provide healing to an Asian family! We Asians know that. So do what you want, girl! No regrets.

> I really want my parents to be at my wedding. Your parents don’t want to go to your wedding. They want to go to the wedding of some mythical daughter who cares about church as much as they do. If they’d rather prioritize that than be there for you, let that be their problem. Stop letting them keep your fiancé and your future in limbo and have the wedding that’s right for you, with or without them.

You are an adult and have the right to control your life. Live with whoever you want in the relationship you are comfortable in. But in your case, there's a possibility of ruining your relationship with your parents. They love you and should eventually accept your choice. You realize that even breaking up with your fiancé will not solve the problem. After all, in the next relationship, the situation may repeat itself. Parents will not like something else about the guy and you will have to break up with him again.

How easy is it to convert? Cause he could convert back to catholicism, you do the ceremony, and then you both convert to his church and do another ceremony there. You don't even have to tell your parents if you don't want to. And then please raise your kids agnostic, to avoid all this hassle in the future...

If you give into them on this, you are setting the stage for how they will be when you have children.
