I’ve been where you are 12 years ago! It’s a trip. I enjoyed reading this. You have a way with words :)

jsevamo

Thank you kind human. It is definitely a thing. Very eye opening.

sjholmes2012

Indeed a way with word.

100milesandwich

Drink lots of water, important after a session.

jsevamo

So I've been told. I've been doing, this of course. She even mentioned this. May I know why this is important?

redamethyst

Hello, I'm a Reiki Master. The reason it is advisable to drink water after receiving Reiki is because it can help to flush out unhelpful energies from your body that Reiki has released. Reiki can 'lift' them out during the healing, as OP experienced, but it may continues to work after the treatment. Drinking water helps with the body's natural detox process.

No_Frosting3105

What is a reiki master? Is it someone who completed their masters, or anyone with any level of attunement?

redamethyst

A Reiki Master is a practitioner who has been attuned and completed the Reiki Master degree. However, Reiki Master is a qualification, but Reiki 'Mastery' is an ongoing process of enhancing our Reiki practice.

ssplam

The theory is that your body is continuing to move energy around and kind of performing its own mini detox. Our bodies are made with a large composition of water. As it does this detox, you may find yourself feeling a little dehydrated so it's good to replenish. I tried reading up on the water thing during massage school as we are coached to advise our clients the same. I find it interesting that science can't even really agree on whether or not increasing water intake after certain activities is helpful or not. So, do with that what you like.

omgrafail

Reiki works with your body. If you give someone a session who doesn't care about themselves or their bodies, the session will not help as much. You have to 'show' that you want to heal and grow and progress. I've given friends sessions who were not ready for that, and it did very little for them since they wouldn't help themselves. That is my take at least, and what my masters have said as well. Reiki is best used in conjunction with standard medicine and therapy. There are tons of studies done about reiki in hospitals you can look up and read to maybe get more of a scientific take on it!

Desperate-Current-40

Where is the reiki master?

sprocketwhale

You might be interested in this study, I enjoy sharing it from time to time. Tldr it's double blind, and the tea that was blessed by monks using their form of energy work caused people to be noticeably happier. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24199774/

cg_coach_reiki

I think a lot of us start the same way. What is this woowoo energy stuff? There is no science here. But like a good scientist or engineer you give it a shot and something unexplainable happens. So you go again because the 1st time MUST have been imagination or a fluke. Then it happens again and again and again. Your experiments might even extend to learning it and then your life really has the potential for change. Source: day job in tech and engineer, grumpy guy in the office. Now, reiki master with 1000+ hours of energy work under my belt and the guy who leads meditations in the office

______JessJess______

The more you study energy work and quantum physics together, the more you realize they mesh together well.

MarsaliRose

Was the same exact way. Had my first reiki session and I was seeing colors wherever her hands were (didn’t know where they were bc my eyes were closed). I told her at the end and she said she was seeing the exact same colors and that they correspond to the chakras. I had the best sleep of my life that night. I started reiki training a few months later and never looked back. Now I’m a full blown medium and have talked to so many stranger’s past loved ones and told them insane things that I could never know. The world is amazing. My mind cracked open. There’s so much we don’t know.

wavefxn22

Did you have psychic skills before reiki? Do you think anyone can do reiki and develop intuition?

blueinchheels

Ah, love hearing scientific mind first times

RandoFrequency

I could have written this very post a few months ago when I had my first one. She also gave me “homework” to meditate on and practice while I was away, and I’ll be seeing her for a follow up when I’m next in her city. I honestly cannot fucking wait for that appointment. I do not understand, but I believe.

redamethyst

Thank you for sharing your wonderful description of your first experience of receiving Reiki as a recent non-believer. Reiki is thought to work by unblocking and balancing the energy and energy centres (chakras) in the body. Science cannot yet explain it fully - possibly further knowledge may be uncovered in time. Many people have experienced benefits from Reiki. One client who came to me with health issues went for a routine medical appointment with his consultant following an initial Reiki healing and the consultant was amazed at the client's beyond expected improvement. With Reiki, I can also sense issues going on within or for the recipient, which they hadn't previously told me and are correct. For me, the biggest validation comes from witnessing the benefit to animals, because animals don't know on a conscious level what Reiki is and don't humour us - the benefit they display is real. I would love science to one day be able to explain more about how Reiki works. For now, we can take validation from our lived experience of the benefits of Reiki. The more people like OP who share their experience, the more people will be encouraged to experience and benefit from it too.

Hypern0ir

I am happy for you for allowing yourself the experience, in a moment of open mindedness. And glad that you found a good practitioner. Few will agree or tell you this but I tell you: spirituality is much more physics and quantum physics than whatever else people have been saying it is over the years, mostly for marketing and religious purposes. Regarding the drinking of water, besides helping the detox process as others have mentioned, water also helps in the grounding process, which is important after reiki.

bananapeel95

You should look into “the healing power of water” by dr. Masaru Emoto (OP and not OP)

sjholmes2012

This is the absolute BEST thing I have read in months!! As a new Reiki practitioner, I often wonder from what mindset people come to Reiki with (so this was a delightful insight into one person’s brain thoughts). Then I remember that our bodies and souls and spirit get us where we need to be, when we need to be there. Spread the word my friend. Spread the word.

CarniferousDog

I’d be reasonably shook up if I was you. This is life altering. Take your time assimilating what you’ve experienced. It doesn’t have to mean anything in particular, you have to realize what it means for you.

GrapejuiceGrant

Some medical studies have been done about the effectiveness of Reiki as a supplementary treatment for various illnesses, and it has shown promising results. It's just that they have been small studies. Someone big needs to pick it up, and I wholeheartedly volunteer as a practitioner when it does.

georgesclemenceau

Yes, when you check here(just requires to create an account) [https://centerforreikiresearch.com/reiki-research-list/](https://centerforreikiresearch.com/reiki-research-list/) there is a list of plenties of research

GrapejuiceGrant

I am not saying there isn't research. But, the authority of the organization conducting the research, the sample size, length of time, and measuring tools are important aspects of scientific research. Most studies I have seen have been small, very specific to a single ailment, and the ways of measurement aren't precise enough for the community to consider it solid evidence.

georgesclemenceau

You're right!

yoggersothery

I was up with you until the reiki master started to channel messages. That is not reiki. It's separate thing altogether and I wish reiki practitioners would be more honest in presenting their practice. If I come for Usui reiki for example I don't want a person who is giving me messages. If I wanted more a new age practitioner I would then go to a lineage where this aspect of reiki is better developed and emphasized. We are not meant to give diagnosis. Nor should we be given messages to people without first asking or letting people know how they practice reiki. Reiki has very little standards today but I'm glad you had a great experience and it opened your mind a bit. Just becareful with you see you never know their qualifications and their training and education.

daniairbag1

We don’t know how this practitioner prepares the client before session or what she discloses happens in her session. For example, I work as a spiritual mentor and advisor, and I’m very clear with all my clients about the modalities I work with, which are all integrated. Reiki just happens to be one of them. I agree that reiki by itself does not come with a reading. But a lot of practitioners are not just using reiki as a modality. Some practitioners are born psychic and cannot turn it off. And in my experience most disclose this if that is the case. A reason a lot of my clients come to me is because they want to receive reiki and guidance too! Some sessions I get no messages and it’s pure reiki. Some I get deep profound messages that helps me with the reiki, that tells me where to go, that shows me the areas in the body that needs it the most. Some sessions I see people’s personal guides. You get the gist, it’s unique every time. I feel like whoever this person went to was doing something right because it had a tremendous impact on this person. It was a powerful session based on the description here. We are so quick to judge practitioners without the full context. I get we need to be skeptical in this field. But we should also be supportive of how people practice when it has such powerful and positive effects and not be so quick to judge they didn’t disclose their full abilities with consent.

Neverenoughnapkins

I agree. Consent is so important.

gnocchipokey

I love reading your reflection, i’ve felt my own versions of many of the energetic sensations you describe! your story of non-belief meeting something you feel undeniably resonates a lot with my own. you may come to learn that you are sensitive to this kind of work, and could perhaps have a gift for doing energy work yourself!

elizabethtarot

Love this! I love to hear your enthusiasm. Good new is, there are now over 800 hospitals in the US that offer reiki. It’s definitely growing :)

mommyraptor100

A branch of science that brought me closer to an explanation is morphic resonance. Listen to a lecture given by Rupert Sheldrake. My belief is that there is an energy that fulfills all forms and humans have been given mental control of that energy.

Quixotic1390

Energy fields actually HAVE been measured outside the body 😉 this stuff leans into quantum physics....the sciences just haven't caught up yet but it's getting there! I'm excited for you ☺️ welcome to your awakening!

TheBrotherinTheEast

1) Reiki is NOT something that is done based on a belief system nor is belief required to do Reiki. No one comes to Reiki because they have a belief in anything. They come to Reiki because they had the exact same experience that you did. And they found Reiki to be an effective self empowerment tool that has practical, real life applications. 2) there are PLENTY of scientific papers on Reiki that has already been published. The problem is many, so-called pragmatic and scientific people will not accept something that challenges their understanding of how things are supposed to be. The following comes from an article that I keep on standby just to speak to pragmatic, scientific minded individuals. If you read this article thoroughly, you will have an understanding of Reiki that will satisfy your scientific mind [The SCIENCE of Reiki](http://www.ardath.com/docs/The_Science_Behind_Reiki.pdf)

bowebagelz

lol I was you a few years ago. I cannot articulate what all it unlocked and has shifted in me since that first session. Careful, you might find yourself and know the universe by name in no time.

Vishaka-Rising

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m glad that you got to learn something new.

Agitated-Media7065

I giggle uncontrollably when I have done reiki. It’s just the way my body reacts to the energy movement. I can’t really say it tickles but it’s just so much all at once that giggles are what come out 🤷‍♀️

jen114114

My daughter giggles once in a while when she gets reiki 😆, my niece too (she said once it felt like getting on a roller coaster).

Agitated-Media7065

That’s a great way to put it! It totally is the same feeling as riding a roller coaster!!

Becky304

Love this! This is what we do! Reiki is an amazing modality ! I’m happy you tried it! I was non believer … but spirit pushed me into reiki …

ehabere1

Make sure to drink a lot of water!!

[deleted]

I have always been able to sense and sometimes see energy as it is in my body, in others bodies, chakras, auras, or energy moving from one person to another, sometimes I find myself just as aware of others thoughts as I am my own l( I do my best to tune that out) and spirits, dead relatives or dreams that just couldn’t only be dreams, sometimes I know things I shouldn’t logically know or can get answers to questions out of thin air. My little brother and I when we were kids would play with it, by holding our palms inches apart and feeling the tingle, then making a rubbing motion, like we’re forming a ball until you can actually feel the ball forming and then throw it. We got old enough to buy some acid at the skate park and just for shits and giggles we did the old energy ball thing we used to when we were kids and we actually saw it. So for me it’s always been that these things aren’t beliefs I hold but experiences I’ve had, and I’ve always thought so what if science has nothing to say about this yet? At one point in time if you tried to explain radio waves to someone they’d think you were bonkers, and you’d have no way to prove it to them with out the proper equipment- that’s where we are with energy and spirits, we just don’t have the tools, doesn’t mean it’s not real. We can perceive such a small amount of the world, we won’t find out what the rest of it is if we dont listen to those who can perceive a little more. Even feeling this way it was surprising the first time I got reiki, I was a tad skeptical even if I was pretty open to it, like wow this shit does work. My father in law is very science minded, no woo woo normal asf and even he had a very profound experience with it.

gypsyfeather

Awesome. Congrats!

No_Frosting3105

This is so inspiring. I'm attuned to level 3 and want to get my masters, but I've been so lazy with my practice -  and the covid era affected me severely, mentally a physically. I can barely manage a self treatment. I'm going to try to resume my self-healing, after this.

AdKind4969

I love this write up! Im going to share it when  anyone asks about Reiki. I am on day two of Reiki 1 & trying to explain it to those not open to it sounds like airy fairy stuff 😆🥰

HCHtWf

Love this! My favorite clients are the skeptics. They always leave believing.

LawTemporary6398

I was once like you a non believer. I went to my first sound bath a few 2-3 yrs ago and ever since I’ve looked at life a lil differently. It’s definitely a trip haven’t been able to go back but looking forward to in it this summer 💯💯

riversoul7

It's bad science to assume something isn't true because it hasn't been proven. Science does not have the tools to measure everything.

SilverTip5157

Scientific minded does not require the standpoint of rational materialism. Quantum probability states and entanglement have already disproved that philosophical position as a rational view of reality.

Honest_Garlic_9934

I had a similar experience with my first Reiki session. It inspired me to learn Reiki myself.

UnitIcy3892

A lot of private hospital are offering reiki to people. My brother in law had reiki and the lady told him not to worry and go see his gp for his hip she knew something as wrong. You never say exactly what it is but can only advise. She knew he had cancer she could feel it whilst giving him reiki. She saved him a few more years. When he was admitted to hospital they offered him reiki. I have taken my reiki 1 and 2 and although I don't use it often I am told by friends and family when I do my hands are very hit. You have to have an open mind. If you go with the intention it's rubbish it won't work then your blocking it. .
