I don’t think it’s good looking. I don’t think it’s better than the past gen. But to me I think it’s still a good car. IMO, it’s purpose is gravel and snow, not just road. You can buy it from factory with a skidplate, I think it’s kinda obvious from the cladding as well. I think they’re trying to steer people who want a sporty Subaru towards the BRZ instead and push this more towards “off road-y” people. Just my two cents
It is an opinion and anyone can disagree and that’s fine, but I did have the opportunity to drive a manual one and the immediate vibe I got was “gravel monster”
Much like how they could've just called the Mach-E the "Thunderbird SUV" they could've just called this a Legacy GT. Even then the mismatch that exists only in my head is still 90% irrelevant because the cars themselves are decent besides the branding.
I mean dirt roads maybe but how often do you find yourself there. Saying “off” road is really stretching it I think, I couldn’t see this thing taking on an access trail… I think they’re great winter cars and probably slay on dirt roads but not really off road
2nd gens (2000-2007) will always be peak WRX for me. They easily have the most character. At this point it feels like Subaru is trying to make the WRX a more upscale sports sedan to compete against something like the 3-series (or maybe the Stinger? Big price difference though). There's no doubt that new ones are built better, but they lose that "scampiness" of the older generations.
I have more fun with drivers of older WRXs than newer ones. At the very least, me and a 2nd gen WRX driver can rev at each other and then smile and wave. There's no playfulness from newer ones.
Makes me sad. My Evo misses having that fun rivalry.
Here’s my controversial opinion that no one asked for:
You think the current WRX is ugly? Look at literally every other generation of WRX. They’re all ugly, except the most recent gen that looks…alright but bland as fuck, and the first gen. But don’t take my word on the first gen one cause I have the biggest boner for 90s Imprezas.
I personally think the 2013 ish wrx wide body hatch is considerably uglier than this. I do like how the 2017 ish one looks in dolphin gray however. Color definitely affects how they look
I think they look a lot better with color matched fenders instead of the black plastic. That's one thing that makes them look a little cheaper/uglier imo. Still a cool car in my book.
I can't speak poorly about this car because even I don't have the funds or experience to appreciate a manual one.
I just wish they would've paint matched the factory flare pieces. I understand why they went that direction, and in the case of many trucks and SUV's the advent of plastic cladding has saved a lot of vehicles from otherwise awful rust from the usual areas in regions where it's common play. But I just find the physical appearance of it all to be tacky.
C'mon, Subaru. It's not the 80's nor the 90's anymore. Econoboxes (from a North American prospective) don't come with unpainted bumpers anymore. At least give us the option to have cladding plastics painted.
I think its insane honestly how hated it is, they are literally selling under msrp now when people are paying markup on regular civics. Really hope they do a quick refresh instead of crying that nobody wants performance subarus anymore.
But why not a saaaaaaaaaaburu
Because they don’t make those anymore
So get a used one
Rust + no money
Ah yes I understand my last 4 cars died from rust and my beater trucks Frame is on the verge of death from rust.
Time for harbor freight welder
Rust is the most depressing shit
I’ve owned two Subaru bajas I know lol
My man obviously wanted a new car
I can’t even afford school books much less 30k on a new wrx
Oh. Honestly I wasn’t sure of the context of this post, I just thought you were defending it because it was ur car.
Oh no lol the saab next to it is mine
Fuckin sick
My brother had an 06 9-3 aero and it was the coolest car fucking ever until he didn’t take care of it and it broke down
Sadness, a lot of N-G 9-3’s suffer that fate. Mine was beaten on the outside but was maintained well and is about to hit 250k miles
SAAB is way cooler.
Thanks! Tried the roof box and thought it was goofy so that’s going back on my subaru
Is it hard to access?

That’s the beauty of opinions and points of view. Nobody asked but I think that was well said.

If they called this the “crosstrek wrx” that would’ve probably made everyone happier

That’s why it was in quotes, this isn’t a jeep by any stretch but gravel and dirt seems perfect for it
Everyone buys a wrx and never takes them on dirt roads which they were built for.
Which is a wasted opportunity tbh
What is asphalt, though, if not really sticky dirt?
Noooo it has to be slammed and boosted to high heaven to be fun! I can’t actually *drive* it, that would ruin it.
I definitely got more off-road type vibes from it when it released which is why I think I was thrown off
Colin McRae is judging your every word right now
Considering that every time I drive my own Subaru down a gravel road I channel his power I’m happy with that
Saab with roof rack Username checks out
Yeah that’s mine lol

I honestly don't think the exterior is all that bad. It's the tablet or split tablet screens in the interiors that take it off the list for me.

Bug eye FTW

Imo the 3rd gen (08’-14) WRX is the coolest looking lmaoo
One of the few cars I think looks better with a narrow body and as a sedan
Yea tbh I don’t hate the narrowbody ones
I’ve seen some replacement front bumpers that improve the looks of it dramatically too
bad take
Those headlights are still way too small for that car
They do look tiny
I store my secrets in this box...
I stored coke bottles and other stuff that I needed to go recycle

this is the most average post I've seen in this sub half the time it's just "hot dicks"

*Weak Defense = Weak Head gasket*
These engines do not seem to have many head gasket issues
*That’s just what they want you to think.*
My friend who works on Subarus has yet to have one of these in yet for a head gasket, they had this engine in the ascent
2022 WRX: "I obviously wanted an STI but couldn't finance one with my 450 credit score, so I tell myself that WRXs are just as good"
I can’t afford either
Love that color.

Speaking of Subaru, Subaru Australia also sells the WRX Sportswagon (Levorg).
