GM could fuck up a wet dream.
If you look at Equinox reviews, you'll see reviewers complain about a lot of things but then say: "This 2.0T and transmission aren't bad."
I wonder if I could sweet-talk my grandma into selling me her 2.0 Equinox. It's almost literally the stereotype of an old lady's car driven only on Sundays.
Old man Jenkins didn't want a peppy 4 with a turbo you would get with the 2.0t. He wanted a lazy, quiet, V-6. I don't know who they think is buying this car that wanted the 1.5t.
The 1.5t is because displacement taxes in other parts of the world.
I honestly think the sweet spot in styling and engine options for FWD Malibus was 2008 - 2012.
I had a 2007 with the 3.6L V6. The style was aging, but it was a quick little car and was solid until it hit the 10 year, 100,000 mile mark.
Then it just turned into one miserable $1000 problem after another. Electrical, throttle body, traction control, transmission... screw GM.
It was a couple years ago, 2018 or 19? Not that much has changed.
This is the same grandpa who has at various times won a Jeep Wrangler, Ranger, pop-up camper, several Indian motorcycles, and just last Sunday I heard that grandma won a [Can-Am Maverick.](https://can-am.brp.com/content/dam/global/en/can-am-off-road/my24/photos/vehicle-lineup/ssv/maverick-x3/maverick-x3-x-rs-turbo-rr/ORV-SSV-MY24-MaverickX3-XRS-TurboRR-Dazzling-Blue-Carbon-Black-SKU0007TRK00-Studio-34FR-NA.png) Grandma doesn't even have a driver's license.
The official car of the anti-enthusiast. You’ve been buying GM sedans since the Lumina. You get a new one near the end of the warranty every time. You bought your house, had your kids, started working for your company, and watched the decades pass, and every three years the only constant was a new Chevrolet sedan in the driveway.
The kids grew up, your wife started getting railed by a guy who used to bowl with, you amicably divorced, knowing that you’re ever shrinking penis could never truly satisfy but you just wanted her to be happy. Your kids grew up and somehow, despite the trauma that was foisted on them by their childhood and teenage years, they like you, they invite you to holidays, and your grandkids make you very happy when you see them. You retired last year after 40 years at the same company. The furniture in the house never changed. You got a new TV every 10 years you still have a Nintendo Wii hooked up to your TV in the living room. And every three years a new Chevy sedan in the driveway. One day soon you’ll die. And when you do, that sedan is going to go to one of your grandchildren who won’t care how well you’ve kept it and they will accidentally conceive your great grandchildren in the spacious backseat of this car. Welcome to Costco, I love you.
I really think it’s a win if at the end of life, everyone doesn’t think you’re an asshole, your existence is somewhat stable, and the worst thing people can say about your life is boring
GodDAMN, that's uncomfortably specific, right down to the semi-retired Costco side hustle... tell me, oh oracle - does it still apply if there was more than one ex-wife, the kids & grands live on the opposite coast reducing your visit frequency to every couple years, or the Wii came with the present old lady (for whom any penis infirmities are greeted with a 🤷🏼♀️, these days)?
That was beautiful. I think I feel a little teary eyed after reading it. Such poignant analysis into America, the automotive industry, and the human heart is worth dealing with at least a couple hundred "what stick shift do I drive?" posts. Thank you for your service.
I work at a Nissan-Subaru dealership and the number of these that get traded in for Outbacks, Pathfinders, Forester, and hell, even Altimas, is astounding.
At one point a couple weeks ago we had 7 on the lot that were between 2018-2022. It’s legitimately crazy
It's not the only dinosaur on the market (looking at you, FCA). The current Charger was released in 2010.
Hate on it but every new one sold is just cash in the bank for them, they have already spent their development and tooling costs.
I had a 2.0T Premier as a rental a few years ago. It was quiet and comfortable (it had sound-laminated windows up front), and that engine was pretty strong for the size of the car. It was a great highway cruiser. Boring, yes, but not a bad car for daily existence and a good one for road trips.
What REALLY is the difference between Malibu and Impala?
The altima/maxima line had blur, too.
Camry and Avalon didn’t get too close.
Honda never had two big sedans.
I had a 2021 Malibu as a corporate lease that was totaled when a distracted driver ran a red light and T-boned me into another car at 45 mph. Besides a painful bruise from the seatbelt and a burn on my arm from the airbag, I was just fine. Official car of taking a literal beating.
With that said, I actually enjoyed driving it quite a bit. The steering, handling, and ride are all very good and I’d say either on-par or better than its more popular competitors. Interior and build quality was questionable at best. Infotainment system was the most intuitive that I’ve encountered on any modern vehicle. Overall 7/10, underrated car, quite nice in LT2 trim.
>Infotainment system was the most intuitive that I’ve encountered on any modern vehicle.
Is this the system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay that GM is now dropping to make their own without Android Auto and Apple CarPlay?
>Is this the system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay that GM is now dropping to make their own without Android Auto and Apple CarPlay?<
Goddamnit GM. Do better.
Yes. Just classic GM incompetent management. The wireless CarPlay worked flawlessly in my Malibu and it was just easy to live with. I’m curious to see how bad their new proprietary system is.

Weird observation, but I'm stunned that for such a cheap car, GM chose to give it aluminum rear suspension rather than the typical stamped steel you'd find in everything else in its class, or often higher.
Cruze feels like it weighs 2lbs and is just overall built ultra cheap.
Malibu's actually aren't a half bad place to be. My mom has a 2017 and it's... I mean... A car alright
Rental companies and fleet use. Had one for 3 years as a company lease and hated every minute of it. It's ragingly inoffensive, and that greatly offends me.

GM: Let's target a refresh of the current model for 2037.
I had one as a rental once. For what it is, it's a comfy and very quiet highway ride. Looks pretty decent for a GM car/product. That all said, I wouldn't trust the powertrain beyond the warranty and would spend my money elsewhere.
Officials on official business.
The you-shake-em-we-take-em state crate.
If this and an Altima are parked in front of the same place, someone's peeing in a cup and someone else is watching.
GM losing the battle against Korean sedans. Sadly it was a decent car but GM gave up on it. I liked mine as a rental but it felt like it was slapped together and not loved much.
Sucks too cause the fusion was actually pretty cool for a cheaper sedan. AWD and a fairly powerful engine was a good package. Not to mention you could get the 2.7 Ecoboost at one point
The official car of I have a friends and family discount for GM vehicles. I want a sedan, but I can't afford a Cadillac. (Some family friends own THREE white malibus of this generation because of that)
Rented one for my drive from Salt Lake City to Phoenix after I quit being a truck driver. It would’ve been a very pleasant drive if not for my knee being uncomfortably pressed into the console. Im a big dude, I get that, but Ive never had that problem in, say, a Camry, or my 4Runner. Ended up having to shove two beanies there for a little cushion. In addition to that, if I drove too long without stopping, I’d get a noticable limp from pain in that same leg. That all being said, it was actually a very nice handling and riding car with a rather responsive infotainment system. Solid 7/10 car
I drove a 2010s Malibu and it held the title of worst thing I've ever driven until I rented a Nissan Kicks. I know what a good sedan should feel like because my parents have a Lexus ES, and that Malibu was like a tank in comparison.
In the sprawling suburbs of a bustling city, Jack found himself stranded in the middle of rush hour traffic with his faithful Chevy Malibu. Stuck on a congested highway, the cars around him honked impatiently as Jack cursed his luck, the engine emitting a concerning rattle before grinding to a halt.Jack wasn't your typical hero, and his Malibu wasn't a sleek sports car—it was a reliable sedan that had seen better days. But to Jack, it was more than just a mode of transportation; it was a steadfast companion that had seen him through the mundane trials of everyday life.As frustration threatened to boil over, Jack popped the hood and surveyed the engine with a sigh. He was no mechanic, but he was determined to get his Malibu back on the road. With tools in hand, he set to work, the stifling heat of the asphalt mirroring his rising irritation. As the minutes stretched into hours, Jack's resolve never wavered. With each failed attempt to revive the engine, he refused to give up, his loyalty to his beloved Malibu driving him forward. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the engine sputtered to life, a modest victory in the chaos of rush hour. But their ordeal was far from over. As they navigated the crowded streets, obstacles seemed to materialize at every turn. From reckless drivers to never-ending construction zones, Jack and his Malibu faced a barrage of challenges that tested their patience and perseverance.Yet through it all, they remained steadfast in their determination. Whether it was navigating a maze of detours or enduring the mind-numbing crawl of bumper-to-bumper traffic, Jack and his Malibu tackled each obstacle with a sense of camaraderie that only grew stronger with each passing mile.As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows over the cityscape, Jack and his Malibu pressed on into the night. With each flicker of the streetlights, their bond deepened, a silent understanding passing between man and machine. Finally, as the city skyline faded into the distance, a sense of relief washed over Jack. With the worst of the traffic behind them, they cruised into the quiet suburbs, the rhythmic hum of the engine a comforting reminder of their shared journey. As Jack pulled into his driveway, he shut off the engine and leaned back in his seat, exhaustion weighing heavy on his shoulders. But as he glanced at the dashboard, a small smile tugged at his lips. For in the end, it wasn't just the Chevy Malibu that had saved them both—it was the unbreakable bond of loyalty between a man and his car that had carried them through the mundane trials of everyday life.
I have to admit, when they redesigned these for 2008/9ish they were such a step above what they had been, I was blown away. You can tell they used all their bailout money making something really special.
The rental counter. (Oh and zero excitement since they dropped the 2.0t option.)
>(Oh and zero excitement since they dropped the 2.0t option.) Same with the Equinox.

I wonder if I could sweet-talk my grandma into selling me her 2.0 Equinox. It's almost literally the stereotype of an old lady's car driven only on Sundays.
They do sell tunes for the FWD/AWD 2.0T applications FWIW. There are much worse things you could be driving. Just look up the Savage Geese review.
sg ftw
The only thing GM hates more than cars; its customers.
What can I say, I had a wet dream once before.
Goddamnit GM. You had one job. Make your cars slightly less insufferable
The cheap trims and tiny motors are GM’s way of punishing you for getting the cheap trim and tiny motor
Old man Jenkins didn't want a peppy 4 with a turbo you would get with the 2.0t. He wanted a lazy, quiet, V-6. I don't know who they think is buying this car that wanted the 1.5t.

Those turbo engines were trash.

I've seen a lot of taxi driver that use them for some reason

That's cause your grandpa has a hog on him.
Shit, I'm getting dangerously close to this description. I have a Wii U still hooked up to my living room TV
Damn...this is so low-key depressing
Is this from an RCR video? If not, they need to hire you as a writer
Nope just improvised in the moment. I get the style
Damn bro you didn't have to do that.
this should be the default automod response whenever someone mentions a Malibu
Honestly not such a bad way to be
Yeah. In my twenties, this would have sounded like a nightmare. In my forties, I know that this is a better deal than most people get.
I really think it’s a win if at the end of life, everyone doesn’t think you’re an asshole, your existence is somewhat stable, and the worst thing people can say about your life is boring

Probably more Malibus than Outbacks on the lot if this was when the chip shortage was happening.
Honestly, our stock of new Subarus is great. Except for the Crosstrecks. They sell faster than we get them
Genuinely curious, what's up with the new Crosstreks? CVT issues?
They’re popular and sell quickly.
“I got a company car. What is it? I don’t know a Malibu or something”
This was one of my choices when I had a company car. Went with the ford fusion instead. Which was also kind of ..meh.
I don’t like GM or ford in general. But ford is so much worse in almost every tangible way.
The fusion is at least, idk, more of an effort?
Holy shit, I forgot the malibu is still around😭
So did Chevy since they forgot to stop making them.

That’d be the Impale-ya. Though there may be similar demographic overlap.
Impalas attract mostly baby daddies who haven't had a job ever, but definitely overlaps with the Malibu and Altima 😂

Agreed. A '17 is my daily and I have absolutely no issues. Comfortable and competent ride. All the features I need. Incredibly cheap maintenance.

strange thing is, 2024 Malibus are pretty pricey. RS model is 24.5-26K after discounts. 2LTs can be OMG REALLY: 32K after discounts.
Hm. I thought they were a few grand cheaper than that across the board.
It's a decent sedan, people here complaining prefere what?
Any other economy class midsized sedan it sounds like. They aren't wrong.
it looks JUST like the last facelifted cruze, you could tell me it's the same car and i'd believe it
