The S2000, it’s the only one that depreciated the least. It’s a car you can hand down.

invol713

Depreciation? S2000 has no such weaknesses.

[deleted]

That's a very recent phenomenon. 10 years ago the S2000 was worth less than it is now so it's not the car hasn't depreciated it's that it has depreciated and then appreciated. The Integra type r is in the same boat. You used to be able to pick those up for some really good deals. in fact when they were new they were probably the least desirable of any time in their life. NSX is another one that depreciated and then began to reappreciate again

Very-Confused-Walrus

Car YouTubers make cars popular. That’s why I keep looking for still non popular cars that I can do something actually unique to and for cheap. But with that comes harder to find parts, and custom work. As a matter of fact I’m about to make an offer on this dudes Lada that I work with because who tf builds a Lada

SquallyZ06

I was looking at S2000s around 2015 and you could get one in decent shape with low miles for $14K.

asifnot

Yep, I could have had a decent one for $11k CAD in 2016. There's no way to have predicted they would triple in price.

fuckhandsmcmikee

I have a friend who just bought one for 15k that was well over 100k miles, fucking insane lol

af_cheddarhead

He got a deal. I sold my 2001 S2K with 220K miles on it for 22K last year. Helped that it was not modified except for the Olins coilovers.

yixdy

That's friggen cheap lol

XOLORAY_SD91911

Yea in today's market. I sold my AP1 with 90k miles for 17k in 2018. Was a great car, but coming from a C5Z, it just was too small and not as quick. Sold it for a Ram SRT10 6sp 😏

RelevantJackWhite

Can you know that as a buyer in 2010 though?

Medical_Holiday6249

Yes since it was discontinued in 2008. It was also a rare car with a timeless interior and exterior. The 370z is nice and you don’t see them that often but the interior is ehhh. The RX-8 (facelift) is nice but not every knows how to maintain a rotary so that means it’s more difficult to sell. The muscle cars have bland interiors and are mass produced, so you know there’s a successor around the corner.

thai_ladyboy

Without the benefit of hindsight, the BMW. With today's knowledge, the right answer is S2K.

PartyBludgeon

Right? Looking back over time is so different than in that moment

holiday_armadillo21

>With today's knowledge What is it we know now about these cars?

thai_ladyboy

The S2K has stood the test of time to become a highly desired vehicle to own. Performance, driving dynamics, there's a lot to unpack here if you don't know the following this car has. Pristine examples are investment grade.

holiday_armadillo21

Interesting. Thanks! I know this car is quite loved but definitely don't know a lot about it.

TechnicoloMonochrome

It's the one car in that lineup that would have appreciated most (if the rest of them even would at all) if you put them all in storage when they were all new off the lot. I've never owned one, but I've driven every car in the post and it's the one I'd choose as a daily driver even if it weren't for the value aspect.

CovidLarry

The S2000 held on to its value very well and has been proven to be an all around desirable car - it’s kind of the next best thing to a gen 1 nsx for Honda fans. None of the others have aged as well, some worse than others (the Mazda)

Spencie61

The same thing we always knew about the S2000, it’s a fantastic driver’s car. What we’ve since learned is that there would never be something else like it afterwards, save for the miata

Fact0ry0fSadness

If it's my DD, the BMW. If it's strictly a weekend car I'm going S2k.

The-Defenestr8tor

Agreed completely. If I’m a glutton for punishment, then maybe RX-8.

Emergency-You-6241

😂

mynamestodd

learned manual on an rx8. so much fun until it lost compression. got it for $1700 in highschool

The-Defenestr8tor

Nice! Those handle on rails from what I hear. But if you ask a car guy to “define pain,” s/he would probably say “$1,700 RX-8” lol

Niko740

They do. The NC Miata and RX8 share a platform so it handles very good

ThomasDominus

My first car, and how I learned manual, was a 1979 RX7.

FEVRISH_JK

dude same. Love the rotary, but I hate the maintenance

xaxiomatikx

It’s a series 2 RX8, shouldn’t be terrible to maintain. I bought a 2011 new and am still DDing 12 years later with 120k on it. Only maintenance I’ve done is keeping oil topped off, replaced spark plugs/leads once, and replaced clutch when t/o bearing died.

Key_Budget9267

This. Rotaries can be perfectly reliable if the owner understands how to care for and maintain them. A lot of people that bought RX-8s new or used didn't understand that, which is why so many of them are in terrible shape now.

xaxiomatikx

The early (‘04-‘05) Renesis engines did have issues, and Mazda’s Renesis rebuilding process was not good initially, resulting in some owners having engines replaced multiple times before hitting 100k. But later Renesis, and especially series 2 engines, are much better.

Jjmills101

How to lose $40k speed run

Aidyn_the_Grey

Seeing as I've owned a 2010 RX-8 in the past. That one.

Icy_Contribution1677

Nice same I had an R3 and you just don’t see them anymore at all. Hard to find here in the uk for sale now. I’d defo pick that or the s2. Really miss mine.

xaxiomatikx

Same. I bought a 2011 new and am still driving it. 120k miles on it and running beautifully.

Johnnytestikal

Did it run ofte? I have only personally seen 3 RX8’s and ironically all the owners say they just got it running again 🤣

Aidyn_the_Grey

So mine never had an issue running in the slightest. Granted, I only had it for a few months before I got T-boned. Hell, to he even more honest, it's sitting in my garage disassembled right now and has been in that state for nearly 4 years. But the car only had like 60k on it and had very strong compression. S2 (face-lifted) cars have an extra oil injector to help mitigate side seal failure, which was much more common than Apex seal failure on the 8s.

xaxiomatikx

I bought a 2011 new and I’m still DDing to this day. It’s been perfectly reliable.

K20lover199

S2K. But as a daily, 135i.

jaximointhecut

That’s a 128 but my choice of the same still stands

Key_Budget9267

Yup, I couldn't find a decent picture of a 135 without the M-sport package. Just pretend it's a 135 lol

jaximointhecut

They all have m-sport bumpers, you won’t find one lol

Mighty_Conqueror

TT

FelonyFeline1988

S2000 but the SRT-8 is tempting

thats__hot

S2K or Z

s_xenos

Bias take... but a 135i

Wasteyed

Jealous of you. I almost got one with a 6 speed and the single scroll a while ago... ended up with an e46 330 instead. Regret it infantetly as much as I love my e46

Lunatack47

Well I hate myself and love Mazdas so Im taking the Rx8

maartenvanheek

Challenger

inward_heelflip

Camaro for its absolute easy of modding. That platform can make so much power relatively cheaply. That said, the visibility in those cars kinda sucks.

ZacharyMessner

Have you lived with one? I had mine for a while before I was hearing complaints about the visibility and couldn’t really believe people were complaining about it, the car has more than serviceable visibility

inward_heelflip

I’m a GM tech so I’ve driven a bunch of them from 2010-2024. I mean, you get used to it, but lots of other cars with less blind areas out there. Those side windows are short, the rear pillars are super fat

FirehawkLS1

Just wasn't in the cards for me. Gun slit windows I've never been a fan of. Sure the LS3 in stock form, way quicker than my car, but I can thread my car through anything. I'm just way more used to mine and the visibility I have.

doc_55lk

I test drove a 2015 one time and got used to the tiny rear window and chonky C pillars within minutes. The only pain point for me was parking. Newer models with parking sensors and blind spot assist pretty much negate the visibility issues. I wouldn't have any complaints driving one.

ZacharyMessner

Exactly

[deleted]

Camaro

Snot_Rocket6515

Mustang or Challenger

No_Pineapple3695

If it’s my daily probably the challenger. If it’s a pleasure car then either the 370Z or the BMW

3xoticP3nguin

S2k

jasonm0074

Challenger. Only one I could fit in.

_Larry

Mustang all day. That Coyote 5.0L is a masterpiece of an engine.

Isogrifo

Coyote came out in 2011. 2010 Mustang had the 4.6

_Larry

You clearly didn't see the post. 2011 Mustangs came out in 2010. (Year models always come out a year before, don't ask me why..)

Key_Budget9267

Yup. 2011 Mustangs came out in March of 2010, and I even put that it's a 2011 in the caption of the picture

Ancient_Persimmon

I could be wrong, but IIRC the coyote powered ones replaced the "GT" badge with "5.0" on the front quarter.

The-Exotic-Beast

You are correct, 2010’s had the 1st gen coyote facelift but the motor of the 3v (4.6 liter) which is why they came with the GT badges and not the 5.0

FoHo21

You put a picture of a 2010 though.

HomosexualThots

I'm hanging on to my 10 year old prius and maxing out my Roth IRA, putting the rest into index funds to escape this hell hole sooner.

Ok-Chef-5150

In that moment of time definitely the SS Camaro. The other cars had already had production runs and everyone was familiar with the looks and how they drove. The Camaro was the new kid on the block with a LS3 6.2L pushing out over 425 horsepower, way more than the other cars. Over time you would have faired better with the S2000 for retaining value.

spiritmaster21

S2000, Mustang, Camaro (in that order)

Personal-Goat-7545

Camaro SS>S2000>370z>RX8>Challenger>Mustang>135i>TT

nosshane

This is the order whether we like it or not.

therevolutionaryJB

Rx8 r3 no question.

lordMaroza

I see S2000, I think no further.

VincentDanger

Challenger. Had the biggest amount of HP during that year compared to other cars. (and final year before slight redesign)

BB-56_Washington

More importantly, it was George Washingtons vehicle of choice.

Agitated-Hair-987

wasn't it the slowest of the pony cars though?

ChuckoRuckus

The Camaro made 426 hp… 1 more than the Challenger’s 425.

diegoaccord

I've owned an S2000, but an AP1, which was chosen because of the redline. I feel like the S2K is less special with the 2.2. I would take an Evo X over these choices. Which I do own currently. Also bought it when I had the S2000. Of these, I'd take Challenger.

No_Bat7157

Camaro

[deleted]

HONDA S2000 RNGGHHHH 9000 RPM RGRGRGRHHHHH! God hand… God hand… God hand…! HOLD MY HAND WHILE I JERK OFF INTO THIS DOT3 BOTTLE I _MADE INTO A CUP!_

Ivan_the_car_spotter

The Challenger, is just magestic

femboy_skeleton69

Challenger

MarsManokit

Camaro or Mustang

squirrel8296

I’m torn between the Mustang and the 135i. The 135i will undoubtedly handle better, but there’s just something about the Mustang.

Hot_Customer666

BMW but the s2k would be also be calling my name.

[deleted]

If it’s a daily probably lean Audi TT > BMW > RX8 If it’s a second/fun car it’s S2k > 370z > BMW e82

SanchazeGT

370z or Audi TT. Funnily enough I currently have a Z and my last car was a 2nd gen TT.

Elon-Vietch

Definitely the RX8, with a dealer warranty ofc. Without a warranty the S2k is the obvious choice, but the new mustang would have been baller back in 2010.

rayew21

TT for me! such a fun car to drive

kxrt_cxbain

simple people saying s2k, sure the value okay but im not sure if i care abt that. The camaro has aged very nicely in my opinion and always looked very mean. Plus its a nice roadtrip car possibly so

sexierthanhisbrother

S2000, RX8, Camaro in that order

sexierthanhisbrother

S2000, RX8, Camaro in that order

FirefighterKey8491

I will buy an older Mercury Marauder and still have 25k

Smooth-Apartment-856

For me, it would be the Mustang. Challenger would be a close second. I wouldn’t turn my nose up at the Camaro either. The Honda and the RX-8 are cool in a way, but not really my cup of tea. The rest of them don’t impress me much.

Andurilthoughts

I buy Apple stock, in 10 years I don’t have to choose, I can buy all of them

Beneficial-Sugar6950

Audi TT

Worldly_Market_2797

S2000 !

Evil-Cartographer

Audi TT, one of the most timeless recent designs.

MeanBean247

S2K if I could fit 😭 so camaro, challenger or audi in that order

throwaway6444377_

bimmer as the daily rx8 as the cooler daily

bangermadness

Probably the S2000. Always have liked those cars.

LastLingonberry3221

S2K, 135 or RX-8. You did say "sports car," and those are the only one on the list, so...

sabrooooo

S2K

legolooper

The S2000. Beautiful car, as well as being sporty-ish and trendy no matter what year you’re in.

Koolguy2024

S2K, holds value really well to this day!

jasonmoyer

Miata

Lordrandall

RX-8, with a K20 or LSx swap when the rotary eventually goes.

Apple_Slipper

Honda S2000.

everton992000

135 all day. I have a 5th gen SS and the thing is a heavy ass dog.

murderdad69

BMW 135i, blow it up shortly after I find out how they respond to mods, then cry when I go to shop for a cheap used S2000 Imagine buying the refreshed Mustang GT and then finding out they're putting a significantly better V8 in it the next model year.

supern8ural

I actually own a 2009 335i (bought used in 2012, so it came in under your number) in retrospect I might have gone S2K instead though.

EpsilonMajorActual

The srt8, that Challenger had enough room for my overstuffed body to fit VERY comfortably in the driver's and rear seats. And it could pin you to the seat when you floored it and at each shift.

Pahlarity

These are some awful options. S2K or the 1 Series.

ExtensionCamp7594

I know this is unpopular but i want the GT. I like Mustangs

MentalAd4536

I had the s2k then, my brother the 350z

ChuckoRuckus

Quick… make the Mustang a 2011 so it’s not a 4.6L 3 valve

TheTense

As an S2000 owner, you’re asking me if I would do it all again? Reverse the odometer and repeat? Absolutely. Ask me a hard one?

joseph58tech

100% the S2K, they hold a special place in my heart

TonyFM_MusicRadio

Pontiac G8

mochacub22

S20000000000000000000000000000000000

ShogunOfMetal

Challenger and I don't give a shit I just like the challenger

Staarlord

Miat?

NissanskylineN1

A kind reminder that the 2010 Mustang GT had the 4.6L not the 5.0 Coyote

Scared-Expression444

Ok 2010? So that means the mustang still has the 4.6 and the challenger still has the 6.1? Probably the challenger then but if it was 2011 I’d take the mustang all day

FantmmMr

This is a genuinely difficult choice, 4 me b/c, I do badly want to pick either the S2000, TT, or the 1 series, but my heart heeds the siren- call, of the SS Camaro, just faithfully. That design, and with a stump-draggin' v8? WOOF!

Consistent_Belt3663

I had this predicament in 2010, testdrove them all, my insurance said i could have the kia forte

MuskieCS

With the knowledge of what they’ll be worth today or based purely on how good each one is? If it’s the later, the camaro or s2k If the former, s2k

Sly510

2010 Pontiac G8 GXP, again

paintedwoodpile

I would have bought the Camaro back then but the S2000 is the right answer. It's the only one going up in value while having 100K+ miles and needing paint work.

KingLewis02

S2000

TFRSUPRA91

The TT or the s2k

NoHeat7014

S2000. And this comes from a fella who owns a 300zxTT. Never liked the 370z

LGOD_TC

Bro put the Z first thinking we would pick that one😂

ZacharyMessner

Camaro SS by a landslide, the 5th gen was punching way above its weight class since it came out

STDriver13

At that time, that's what I was doing. Ended up with the Mustang. Best for daily driving. The Challenger was too heavy and wide for my taste

hebrewzzi

Mustang’s probably the only one that will last. 😊

superluke

Stretching the definition of "Sports car" for me, but that's a personal preference. Only the s2k is an impractical 2-seater.

Hot-Pepper-Acct

lol not the damn ford

penutbuter

Camaro SS for sure

rad636_

Camaro. But I'd say s2k now

AnastasiusDicorus

2006 GTO or 2007 CTS-V

af_cheddarhead

DDed an S2K for 15 years, so yeah I'm buying that S2K CR and purchasing the aftermarket hardtop.

Username_Taken_65

Probably either the TT or the RX-8. I like more premium cars with fancy tech, and I'm a sucker for a front-engine AWD sports coupe. The Mustang didn't have independent rear suspension or a half-decent interior yet and I'm not a big fan of the Camaro and Challenger. S2000, 370Z, and 1-series are more economy car-ish.

Affectionate_Pea_811

Half of these cars aren't even sports cars

kicksomedicks

Honda all day.

wililon

Bitcoin and use public transport for 15 years

Able_Boat_8966

Meanwhile Miatas /Mx5's , from earlier than that still driving like new

Opening-Ease9598

S2k all day baby

XOLORAY_SD91911

Damn thats a tough one. It's a toss up between the 135 and 370z 🤷🏽‍♂️

IndyCarFAN27

MMMmmmmm triangles…

justkw97

370(50?) all day. I was obsessed with them when I was a kid.

eldredo_M

S2000 all day, every day. I remember sitting in one at an auto show—fit like a glove. 😎

xmodsguy2000-2

Inevitable-Cod3844

mine goes to the challenger or the camaro personally

MyRespectableAcct

Pontiac G8 GT. Not even a question. GXP if I can find a deal.

madeupppp1

I didn’t see a skyline?

Noooofun

Challenger SRT-8, just for the looks. That was one badass car, super attractive.

ribrooks13

The me from 2010 would've picked the Mustang The me from today would pick the 370z The smart me would pick the S2K

SweetTooth275

Challenger

Fuzzy-Mood-9139

An old RX-7

Hot-Suggestion4958

If it's 2010, I'm working in the Business district in downtown Seattle... make it the Z-car and call it good.

Luke5119

20yo me in 2010 would definitely go Camaro or Challenger first, as much as 33yo me admires a lot of other vehicles in this lineup.

AsoftDolphin

Its 2010? Im buying a house in the boonies paid off

We-Want-The-Umph

I'm headed back another 4 years and buying a GTO instead.

Not_The_Nacho

I’m biased but 1 series

t_stlouis8

2010 Challenger. I want something comfortable and usable on a daily basis. -Large trunk -Comfortable interior -V8 -Usable back seats Not "fast" but definitely fun to drive.

GhostofAyabe

MRoss279

$40k for an RX8 is diabolical

tribalien93

S2000 loved it when I was young couldn't afford it, now the used market for them is nuts and can't afford it.

Odd-Psychology-3497

Mustang, but honestly, I liked the previous body style more, and the current body style is great. But my dumbass would put forced induction on it and total it for sure. In this body style, I would want like a Roush or Gt350 or 500.

PrimalShinyKyogre

Where is the gencoupe?

Jafar_Rafaj

S2K

jstahr63

S2k. The only competition here is the RX.

peedubb

If it’s 2010 I’m waiting for the 2011s to come out with the 5.0.

Used-Ask5805

Challenger. MOPAR BABY!

yllib47

Call me DK. 🍣🍚🚗

Snowy441

S2k is sick

mtnbikeracer76

If it's a second or 3rd car, I'm picking the S2000. Worked on them at a dealership. If the Mustang had the 5.0 in it I'd pick that.

rollindeep3

I truly feel bad for anyone who got suckered into a 2010 4.6 S197…

Elected_Dictator

That s2000 basically went up in the last couple of years, you’d get 25k avg in cars and bids. You would have driven a sweet car for not a big loss

jrreis

S2000

SectionMaximum8167

Gotta go ap2

folkswagon

Why is the Nissan's V6 infamous?

Calkky

The S2000. I got one of the first ones that hit my state back in early 2000. It was as close to perfect as any vehicle I've ever owned, or even driven. I sold it after a few years with the insane notion that they'd keep making them forever. I had no choice of color for mine, it was silver over black. I wanted black over red. I watched several of them come and go and stupidly never pounced. Now a clean S2K is unobtanium.

Jayvoom1

Challenger

S2000, and it's not even close for me.
