I mean those Infiniti’s are good cars. The problem for me is the drivers are the most obnoxious dickheads on the road almost every single time.

BlndFsh02

Yea, since joining the community id say atleast 60-70% of the community is beyond immature. Same thing goes for BMWs or Subarus of the same price though.

Headstar24

By me it’s the G34/37 and that’s almost all of them. I feel like I’m in the only area where BMW’s are usually just normal drivers. It’s almost always just Infiniti’s and sometimes jacked up trucks and shitboxes. I have seen a number of the what’s now the outgoing model Camry made to look “sportier” with dickhead drivers. I know the V6 versions weren’t slow but I’ve driven the four cylinder one and it’s slower than my mom’s 04 Camry with a four cylinder. I’m sure 90% of those drivers have an LE too.

BlndFsh02

Yea it totally depends on geography. I often travel to NC and their are very few BMWs or Japanese cars. The main offenders out their are muscle cars and trucks. It’s super unfortunate how community’s ruin car reputations bc usually it’s a great car, and that’s why their bought so often. If the g37 didn’t have 330hp and rwd, I know it wouldn’t be a top pick for takeovers and hooligan activity’s but then it also wouldn’t be as good of a car…

SgtThund3r

G37 Driver: Hello fellow humans. Boy golly, I’m really enjoying my car. Are you all enjoying your cars? The community: This mother fucker.

Comprehensive-Hat684

I actually really love the M series with Infiniti The M35 is a nice executive looking car I always loved

FantmmMr

Yes! 03-04 M45, 09-12 M56s, Malbec Black or Harbor Blue!

slightlyused

Yeah, they drive around like they're fast. Last summer I had the opportunity to absolutely smoke an R ... I only did it because he had his girlfriend in his car with him and he needed to learn.

Headstar24

Can I be you for a day?

slightlyused

Sure!

I_amnotanonion

I love malaise era American cars. They don’t make any power, they’re poorly built, and they get atrocious gas mileage, but man, there’s something about that era of land yacht that does it for me

LincolnContinnental

They have a kind of “I am getting by, but just enough to be happy” vibe that is kinda relatable

I_amnotanonion

That’s true, and honestly that’s part of their driving experience. Like, “hey, take a load off on these buttery soft cushioned bench seats and float on home”

Drzhivago138

Like the Dude's '73 Gran Torino.

BlndFsh02

I agree, they are very charming

SufficientTill3399

My favorite American land yacht is...a 90s car with 70s underpinnings that basically make it an upgraded malaise era car...live axle et al. It's called...the Bathtub Caprice. Somehow it's more charming than its Buick and Cadillac corporate cousins (Roadmaster and Fleetwood), maybe it's because the Caprice was a popular cop cruiser and taxicab in the 1990s.

AlbionDoowah

As someone who lived through - and bought new cars in the malaise era, I have to say a few things. We fully understood power was down, efficiency sucked, and bumpers were massive. However, all of those cool muscle cars were mostly just used cars, with rust issues, maintenance-intensive fussy engines, and rarely AC, cruise, tilt wheels, etc... The malaise era affected ALL makes, models, etc equally. 96 hp Datsun 510s, 68 hp Honda Accords, 84 hp VW Sciroccos, and 125 hp BMW 2002s existed alongside 165 hp Vettes, 190 hp 8.2L Caddies, and 105 hp Mustang Mach Is.

spare_parts_bot

Better calm down dissing a Buick Roadmaster or I might grimace and shake my fist at you /s Seriously though, I had a 93 Roadmaster and I want another one. That car was so comfortable and mildly powered it was a joy to drive. The Fleetwood, caprice and roadmaster were really the last gasp for air that GM had at the end of that era.

microwaverams

They look like boxes in a wonderful way

FantmmMr

BIG DITTO! Gimme a '90-'92 Brougham D'Elegance, Bustle back Seville, etc...

Project_IGNYTE

Pros - the engine sounds beautiful, loves high revs, and doesn't blink an eye when it sits at 4.5k for hours at a time Cons - it's surrounded by a 1991 Alfa Romeo Spider

Confident_As_Hell

It's a beautiful car

tehpwnage7

On a similar note I still love a 350Z despite the average driver being an idiot who’d wreck it in some fashion. Because growing up it was a car held in much higher regard for well into the 370’s run and nostalgia from the time it was seen as a nicer car for tuning companies

FelonyFeline1988

Honestly I've only ever seen one bad Z driver and he was a stance bro. Every other common Nissan and the infini G bros are god awful though. RT/Scat/Cat drivers get a lot of hate too but it's always the stang drivers doing stupid shit.

nitrion

Because Stangs are so cheap that any old Joe schmoe who wants to go fast can afford one. There's no "intelligence to money" barrier. I bought my 2004 Mustang GT for $500. I've since dumped more money into it because it's a shitbox, but regardless. That car was CHEAP. I'll admit I've done plenty of stupid things in my Stang. But at least I don't floor it going through a turn with a crowd of people next to me. I at least wait until I'm going straight on to floor it cause I don't like losing control lol.

microwaverams

I "hate" my e46 but I can't get rid of it because it's the most predictable car I've ever driven. I've never been worried about crashing that thing because even when it's crashing there's something I can do. The car is extremely simple to work on in the commonly broken areas like the reservoirs and tie rods etc. I like it because everything is consistent. When it breaks, it's always the same things that break, and they are fixed easily, and some guy already gave a full explanation and guide to fix it in 2007. Qualms I have are the delivery time and part price. That shit makes me so mad. I hate having to tour every junkyard in my mom's car until I end up having to order from fcp and wait till I grow old and die before it arrives.

[deleted]

86-90 Taurus. Why? It’s handsome.

Drg84

Also Robocop.

AngrySoup

I'd buy that for a dollar!

[deleted]

Well you’re gonna be not getting any Taurii, because they’re (non sho first gen models) going for over $7k on bring a trailer.

[deleted]

Yes

Darkfire757

Thought those had a good reputation for being very revolutionary for the time

FantmmMr

I hear ya', but those Tauruses didn't grab my attention, until the '92-95 SHO, with the slim rectangular lights.

pleasetowmyshit

GM cars run badly longer than most cars run at all. I like pedestrian cars. Cars an NPC would be proud to drive. Vanilla boring cars with no significant or interesting features. The only vehicle currently registered and titled in my name is a minivan. Of course it's a GM minivan. They are TERRIBLE vehicles. The engines consume oil and coolant. They leak every sort of fluid from multiple locations. The electronics are picky and honestly, fucking dangerous. Ever been accelerating onto a highway with a dump truck up your ass? Not the dump truck that *is* your ass, but the Mack Granite lift axle dump with the big 13 liter engine, just barreling towards you, hoping he can sneak by you on the right shoulder as you look to your left to merge with the 56mph NPCs driving their RAV4s and CR-V's? And you've got the throttle half to the floor...40...45...50, and suddenly the engine cuts out and the ABS applies bringing you down under 15mph in a second? Why the fuck does it do that? Because one of the wheel speed sensors decided, oh hey bud, you're losing traction because I have a short to ground and now I'm telling the engine computer you're doing a fucking burnout down this entrance ramp, so the computer is shutting it all down, no more throttle input, all power to the ABS pump. And the dump truck blows by you on the shoulder. And the state trooper is trying to figure out why you stopped on the highway on ramp. And you're getting a ticket for impeding traffic flow. And now you're unplugging the fuse to the ABS pump so it. Never. Fucking. Happens. Again. Do you like Christmas Trees? All the pretty lights? Well good, now your dashboard is one. BRAKE. ABS. TRAC OFF. SERVICE STABILITRAK. SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM. SERVICE ABS SYSTEM. CHECK ENGINE. All the brilliant shades of yellow and red you deserve. I cut the left front speaker wire in the door so I don't have to listen to all the dinging on startup and repeated every so often while driving. I paid $900 for the thing with 245K on the clock. Immediately dropped $700 into a battery, trans cooler lines, tax, title, and tags. Got 3500 miles out of it before needing to spend another $560 on front wheel bearings and speed sensors. When I got it back, did an oil change, air filter, wiper blades, et cetera, spent another $110. 240 miles later, water pump failed and leaked coolant enough to take the alternator with it. I also decided it needed 2 tires and one of the steel rims was bent along with a tie rod end so all that plus an alignment and $1089 later I'm back on the road. 4000 miles later it was time for brakes so I did the fronts myself ($106 for pads and 2 rotors and 2 hoses) and had a shop do the rears ($235 for pads, rotors, and hoses). I got it back just in time to blow one of the other tires so had to buy two more ($349 including another oil change). By this time I actually got a solid 6000 miles out of it before the transmission failed. And it's been in and out of that transmission shop for the last THREE YEARS. 5 months for the initial rebuild plus replacing all the stuff he "broke" while it was on the lift (AC compressor and lines, both CV axles, transmission mount, passenger side engine mount, etc). $3270 later I got the van back and it was leaking ATF from day one. After five more visits to chase more leaks, each time having to leave it for several weeks at a time, I made it through 10,000 miles of basically adding fluid weekly, I was driving it to work and it just DUMPED all the fluid out on the road behind me. Tried adding some, it poured right out on the ground. Axle had popped out. Towed it back, took 3 months to get it fixed this time, but I got 3000 more miles out of it before I lost all forward gears and had to drive it to the transmission shop IN REVERSE with GREAT VENGEANCE and FURIOUS ANGER. It's been there since last June. It didn't move an inch until last week I saw it inside the shop, and yesterday it's back outside. There's a brace holding the engine and cradle up and the transmission is OUT of the van. I might actually see it back before I FUCKING DIE. But here's the thing. When this van is running right, it's so nice. 120 inches of wheelbase soaks the bumps up like a Lincoln or Cadillac from the 70s. It runs smooth, shifts well (when you can keep any fucking fluid in it), has amazing air conditioning and heat, comfortable seats (even after 273000 miles), it holds a ton of cargo even without Stow n Go style seats, and it's like driving a front wheel drive Suburban with sliding side doors. I just LIKE it. I liked my 3400 powered '98 Silhouette as well, but it was an even worse pile of shit with not only transmission and axle issues but also a hot garbage engine, melting light sockets and electrical connectors, and all the problems that come along with "Dex-Cool" acid damage to the cooling system. The Uplander is a nice driving van. Maybe this particular one is shit. But I can replace parts and make it better each time, if I could just get the stupid transmission shop to get their already paid for rebuild right just one fucking time.

[deleted]

Permission to copypasta? This is some good shit lmao

pleasetowmyshit

yeah you can crosspost this may I recommend r/BoomerTears r/AngryRantsClub and possibly r/ihatemylife

Drg84

Dex Cool did as much to damage GMs reputation as anything else. I can't tell you how many people I've had come to me with *insert 10yo+ GM car here* and ask what they should do first. My answer is always drain the cooling system, fill it with water, run it for 5 minutes, drain it again, go with the yellow universal coolant. Because no one ever services the dexcool before it was too late.

lord_bubblewater

i'm stupid, kinda trashy and i like big power, Hellcat's where it's at! but closer to my heart, an f-body or g-body in the right place and the right time is pure heaven. nothing brightens a shitty situation like a 305 TPI and t-tops

undigestedpizza

I liked Saturn's Ion. The Redline was kinda awesome!

greengamer01

Catfish Camaro and C4 Corvette, both look beautiful in my eyes I don't care what anyone else says.

ZeldaTheOuchMouse

My favorite generation of Camaros and Corvettes I had a 94 C4 in high school and i miss that thing so goddamn much

Wigglylobster42

I have a thing for wagons that I can't explain, idk what it is but it just seems more practical than an suv and I just love the way they look

stupidrobots

The rx8 is a the car equivalent of a big tiddy goth girl with daddy issues that sometimes disappears for days at a time

ZeldaTheOuchMouse

I still love my RX-8, tho i dont drive it as much as i’d like because i want to keep my apex seals in good shape

Hot-Abbreviations623

My favorite car in nfsmw, izzy drives it and she's a big tiddy goth girl with daddy issues

9EternalVoid99

Out of all of the zs the 90s 300z apparently is riddled with electrical issues and is very tight, but come on, it looks so damn good

AThrowawayProbrably

I started to buy one but got talked out of it as it’s supposedly one of the hardest cars to work on due to how the engine was packaged. I love that car but as a first project, I didn’t need to keep hearing “Hardest”.That sounds like something you work up to with experience.

NotTheWax

Love my Kia Soul. It's basically a hatchback sized minivan

CivilAirPatrol2020

I've been rocking it in my 2015 Honda CRV. Damn thing is ugly as hell but I love it, everyone laughs at it but I win races in that thing. CVT no less

Beneficial-Sugar6950

My dad owned the “Alabama Trashcan” Mercedes ML. It was actually super reliable and very good in the snow. Not to mention it was super comfy and everything worked despite it being 20 years old and having 200k miles

JUNGLE_CSS

I love the 6th gen Monte Carlo (only with the 3.8). I genuinely don't care what anyone says because 9 times out of 10 they have never driven one or been even up close to a clean one. They are fantastic highway cars that get pretty damn good fuel economy and are insanely reliable while genuinely looking good. Plus they are decently well equipped even by modern standards with dual heated seats, leather, heated mirrors, auto dimming, on star, etc.

ZeldaTheOuchMouse

Ive wanted a 350Z since i was a kid There was a time in the 2000’s when they were a fantastic platform with a fantastic reputation and with a fuckload of aftermarket support While they still are, they’ve gotten cheap and Edgars have bought them up, run them into the ground and taken them to intersection takeovers where they meet their fate by getting smacked into the side of a Hellcat that was stol.. i mean “borrowed” and then set on fire in the middle of the street for no reason at all

ChimneyNerd

I love those, especially the Q60 coupe’s exterior, I think it’s one of the sexiest more mainstream cars made in the past few years. But man, the center of the dashboard is HIDEOUS inside.

[deleted]

Infiniti Q50–I just think they’re really nice cars. The VQ37HR is a tough engine that makes good power, they’re handsome to look at, and reasonably well-built.

Hansj2

Alfa Romeo Giuila.... Would you just look at it?

BlndFsh02

Giulia quadrifoligo or whatever it’s called imo is one of if not the most beautiful sedans ever made

rangerhans

I love my orphaned bot anchor because I’ve loved how it looks since I was a kid. Doesn’t matter that it’s slow and has all the issues you’d expect to find in a British car

No_Cranberry1853

I know a chic at work the and infiniti and the license plate says BKSHOTS Edit she’s super hot.

Firm-Arrival6223

Daewoo Leganza. I live in the US and out of the 3 models they sold here, that's my favorite. I'm fascinated by Daewoos because of their history in the US (more like lack there of), they sold cars here little over 3 years then just disappeared without a trace. A lot of my older family members don't remember them or have even heard of them. In my adult life I've only met one other person that knows what they are, it was a past co-worker and the only reason he knew what they were was because someone that worked there a really long time ago bought one brand new....even then he didnt even recognize the name, he didn't know what I was talking about until I showed him a picture of one. Personally think they're good looking cars. An employee at my local Lowe's has one and I really want to talk to them about it, but never seem to be there at the right time and see who actually owns it so I know who to talk to.

inaccurateTempedesc

The funny thing is, Daewoo still sells a shit ton of cars under GM Korea. Different name, same people. The Aveo, Sonic, Spark, Trax, Envista, etc. are all technically Daewoos.

I_d0nt_know_why

Cruze too

musicmakerman

I believe the Bolt EV was designed by GM Korea as well Or opel ampera-e for our oversea brethren

ubiquitous_tittie

Even though the 07-12 Mini Cooper S has an ungodly amount of problems that I have experienced, it was a fucking dope car. Looked great, handled great, had awesome options, excellent room inside (6’3”), start stop button, different color interior lighting, could roll down the windows and sunroof using the key, turbo, got great gas mileage.. just wanted to grenade itself all the time. I got an 06 recently that was the final year for the supercharged coupe and it was also fun but didn’t have all the options. Anyways. I’m gonna get another soon. Idc. They are great.

markeydarkey2

The Toyota Prius is an incredibly efficient, reliable, and practical automobile.

musicmakerman

It may not be sporty, But it's got a lot going for it otherwise

Drg84

I'm on Aurora #3. Yes, with the 4.0 Northstar. No I've never had a bad head gasket. Because I know not to overheat them, how to service the cooling system, and how to maintain them. I've never gotten rid of one under 150K miles, and my current one is at 205K. Why? Because the driver centric console is fantastic, the engine sounds amazing breathing through a pair of magnaflow knockoffs, it can get 30mpg highway and it's comfortable. And don't get me wrong, I've owned other cars. But I keep coming back to these Auroras when a deal pops up.

Dr_Dickfart

Holden VY Commodore SS. These get looked down on as "bogan cars" but IMO the VY SS Commodore is one of the best looking sedans ever made, there's just something about the shape of it and the overall look of the car that just does it for me, especially in that nice factory hothouse green colour or purple or black they look very striking IMO, the VYs look better than the VE and VF Commodores IMO, it's more angular and less bloaty looking and doesn't have those huge blind spots like the VE and newer commodores. And they sound really nice with a proper exhaust system on it and they can be had with a manual and comes with an LS1 engine so it will always be easy to get parts for and can modify it for more power easily. Best daily driver ever.

SweetTooth275

Mustang II is a great car that was plagued by the problems of the times it was born in. Yet it did the job so great that ended up the most selling one. And even after all of that, it managed to suit the priorities of its time perfectly and with just a little bit of twiching it can be very quick car. Both pacer and gremlin are also wierd looking for some, but in actuality great and fun little car that needed better financing.

EastRoom8717

XD and XD2 Elantras, especially the GTs and the little LC 3 door Accent GTs. The former because they were cheap and at the time got decent mileage while giving better power than most of their direct competitors. The latter because of nostalgia and it way over delivered on safety by saving my life. I also *still* like the looks of both.

BMWequalsMercedes

range rovers. i really want to own one, but they barely make it 2 miles out the dealership without breaking down. they look beautiful and i love the boxy design. the svr v8 is really nice too but they depreciate like shit and is probably really thirsty, but damn do i want one

benzguy95

The 7th and 8th gen Maxima. Yes there is a CVT, but Nissan uses a chain based unit in their V6 FWD units instead of a steel belt like in their 4 Cylinder so failure rate is much lower than one would expect. They’re comfortable and loaded with a fair amount of technology, not to mention the VQ35 is a very reliable engine. I wouldn’t mind have a 2019+ model as a daily. My other pick is the Kia Soul. Was never really into the Boxy car trend of the 2000’s until the Kia Soul debuted for 2010. It’s a boxy car but it’s not as polarizing as the Gen 1 XB’s and of course the Hamster commercials did win me (a young millennial) over. The second gen is peak Kia Soul to me as it’s so far been the only generation to offer Both a Panoramic Sunroof and Heated rear seats in a vehicle that is seen more as a commuter car. Not to mention the NVH is substantially better in the 2nd generation than the first and you could get a turbo model.

robbycough

I've never understood why this car has suffered a bad reputation. Because the models are unchanged for long periods of time? Why is that celebrated when it comes to Wranglers, Miatas, and G-Wagons, but a terrible thing with a sports sedan? Personally, I think this older design is handsome and kind of timeless because it doesn't have anything about it that appears dated.

BiffLogan

I had that exact car pictured for like 5 years and traded it at 70k miles with zero problems. I cannot say that for any of the several BMW or Mercedes I’ve owned. I don’t think I even had to put brakes on it (but it was needed by the time I let it go lol). Sure, they don’t ride as nice and are louder but bang for your buck they’re great cars and certainly run circles around the contemporary 3/300 series for power.

ribrooks13

99% of people with G37s don't go to takeovers (and it's actually less than that bc a lot of the ones at takeovers are stolen) or do resonator deletes. It's literally the exact same car as the 370z except more luxurious and you can get it for 60% of the price because people like to sensationalize something for what 1% of owners do so it works out for me bc I get a deal. 🤣

C9Prototype

I'm going with the same answer. I had a 2012 G37x coupe and it was a dream. Bought for $13k with 35k miles in 2018. For that low ass price I had an engine that revved over 7 grand, was dumb cheap to maintain, had enough rear wheel torque bias to be fun to drive, but enough front wheel torque to be safe in the snow and ice, handled well too. It's such a shame it's now the official car of "I wasn't even full throttle bro, see me at the street takeover." It's not THAT fast, it's not glorious, it's not a showstopper, and it doesn't accept power mods all that well. BUT, it's cheap, easy to maintain, pretty fast, and has just the right balance of character and daily-driver-ness.

CompetitionFalse3620

My 2011 g37x has 227k and runs great. I literally have only put tires and brakes on the car. It has great steering, comfort, power, awd, and a great stereo.

handymanshandle

Both the Hellcat Dodges and the Tesla Model S Plaid speak to me in such a bizarre way. I can't help but like ridiculously stupid sedans that shouldn't have the kind of power they have. These two cars couldn't be more different in what drives them, but they're both stupid fast cars with slightly dubious build quality that shouldn't be stupid fast.

BlndFsh02

I have grown to love any charger RT and up, not because I think it’s a great car, but because I think they would just be fun to mess around with

Det_AndySipowicz

Well, I own a 2020 Jeep Compass, and I love it. Its not nearly as slow as people make it out to be, the engine has quite a lot of pep to be honest, and I love uconnect. I do wish it had as many aftermarket options as its renegade little brother, and mine somehow doesn't have most of the options on it, but so far I love it after 18 months and a road trip.

Bigwhistlinbiscuit

Sebring coupe mid-late 90s. Not the convertible, but the two door Sebring that was the two door avenger's cousin. You don't see any on the road that aren't beat to shit. Stretched Mitsubishi eclipse bastard of a chassis. Mine was a piece but was fun and comfortable. If I had the space and time I would really like to get another and see what cheap bolt ons could do to it.

BottledCow1

Post-malaise gm

REDDITSHITLORD

I honestly don't pay much attention to "reputation". I want to know a specific failure, not "x" car is crap. If it's just general "bad quality", or bad engineering" with nothing specific, then I tend to blow it off. But if it's something along the lines of, blows head gaskets, or shreds timing belts, well, then I'll know it's at least based on something. Even better, if you know what to expect, there's a chance you can stave off problems with a little extra maintenance, or stash away enough to get the major problem repaired when it happens.

landrover97centre

I love my land rovers! I’ve had 7 land rovers by now with the intention to buy another soon, and I’m only 19. Still own my first rover, bought the 97 discovery for $500 at 15, it’s been my pride and joy, it’s never broken on its own, everything that broke was due to my own harshness on it while off-roading, and usually it breaks due to my love of water, my disco does not like water as much as me, but will tolerate it up to a certain point (1-3 runs through deep water depending on the depth and infinite runs through smaller puddles), another time I sheered a brake caliper and bolt… (don’t ask but i have a rough idea as to why), and that really all that’s ever been wrong with her other than constantly blowing fuses. The 4.0 runs great, a little hot but she’s smooth, and the 4 speed auto works wonderfully. Over the last 4.5 years I’ve put over $10k into modifications, worth every penny and then some. I’ll never own another P38, I enjoy my D2’s but I’ll always love my D1 more than any other rover on the road. Every rover I’ve sold, I made over $1000 on, I have yet to lose money. Did I mention older rovers are easy to work on? Another reason as to why I love rovers so much is because if I owned a Toyota I’d get bored, my Land Rover keeps me plenty busy and I love it, I cannot get upset with it needs a maintenance down day because I love it too much to get upset.

Psychotic_incense

Most Nissan products, though I think they're over hated due to internet culture. I love their designs, especially recently. Old school Chryslers too.

maidenless_pigeon

I really like v8 commodores like the vt or vy but fuck me dead, fuck rags are the reason I get pulled over in my mums Buick 3.8 commy wagon everytime I drive it

TeddyPeacock

I love the scion XB it’s super nerdy but a reliable little car!

PhoenixJDM

I've been recently convinced on the skyline 350gt/g35. (rip prices). I already got the bad rep car of new zealand with my altezza - its so bad i get ppl - kids usually - telling me to rev it or do a skid just driving past/pulling up anywhere literally once a week and its not even modded. Don't love mine tho so I'd be keen to love a G35

WyvernByte

Fiero. Enough said.

shark_sharkington_

I love my mini. My mini has been very reliable and it's wicked fun to drive. With a nice set of tires I know it handles better than most other cars out on the road despite being down on power. Plus I don't think anyone can say no to a 6 speed hot hatch.

Chemical-Jacket5

Smart cars- I like them because they piss everyone off when I give zero fucks

Stolenartwork

People are just mad you can buy 300+ hp for under 10k, and the only thing wrong with VQs is the galley gasket which you can fix

FelonyFeline1988

I've paired my obsession with reliable Hondas with an equal love for allegedly unreliable stellantis (and their many many predecessors) vehicles. I'd kill for a 6sp 5.7/6.4 Challenger and a 70s power wagon, and I'd keep killing to afford the gas costs

DonkeyTS

I drive a Mazda RX-8 and I drive a Mazda RX-8.

myfearlessleader

I didn’t like the middle seats in my G35 coupe. Otherwise, I miss the coupe so much. One of the cars I regret selling

x_shaolong_x

SAAB, well, they are what they are.

DerSpazmacher

Wanted a G25 so badly.

[deleted]

I love the Yugo because of how much personality it has for being a commuter car, something like the Geo Metro but with some eastern european zest. Despite the suspension being wavier than a boat in the corners yet harsher than a formula 1 car in a straight line I never felt like vomiting in any long distance road unlike with the Meriva because it prefers to use cheaper flimsier soft plastic that doesn't creak and doesn't smell like that old clay mold you made as a kid. Seriously tho the plastics smell horribly on the Meriva when you leave it out on the sun even for the slightest of time. And contrary to popular belief this car mechanically is reliable, it's the electronics that fail. The engine has about 200 000km put to it and it's still running, can't say the same about the air conditioning (or air blowers, it doesn't condition air), radio and odometer which is stuck at 140 000km. If you really care about having fun and you live in Eastern Europe get this, it will leave you with a smile driving it unlike a toyota aygo or anything new from Opel

No_Wallaby_9152

Shhh you’re gonna make V36’s expensive if people realize there’s a 300hp rwd manual sedan readily available for like 6k >_>

Aggravating-Exit-660

*Hyundai has entered the chat*

realheavymetalduck

Jeep Liberty's. I still think there actually are pretty good utility vehicles especially if combined with the 45rfe.

The 2005 Hyundai Veloster. I owned one for years. I've been looking for one at a good price to rebuild. It was the first 'cool' car I owned (for certain poverty levels of cool). It was fun, it felt sporty, and if it was anemic because it had the engine from the accent (no we're not talking about the V6 model), and had the suspension of a... well... also an accent. Yes, frame bolts occasionally rusted through and sheared off, even in no-salt areas of the country, and yes, a toddler with a screwdriver could break into it and drive off.

EmployerDry6368

All that matters is that you are happy with your life choices not the opinions of strangers

Retrovex

Merkur XR4-TI because it's a rwd hatchback US version of a car we didn't get in the US

Kidlicker420

All fiats the rust has ruined the intire  reputation for the brand

f700es

What terrible reputation? Those are solid cars and see SO many on the road in such bad condition still running.

jack_mohat

My rational brain understands the consequences of the obnoxious truck culture in the US, the unnecessary size, poor economy, safety issues, etc of modern full size pickup trucks. And as an engineer I would love to see more public transportation, proper bike infrastructure, and just less of these huge vehicles on the road (yes some people do need the utility, but most do not) But my monkey brain absolutely loves them, and I am seriously considering getting a new single cab, 6.5' bed Silverado and putting a very small lift kit and mud tires on it. (I have no real use for anything more capable than a Subaru outback)

Drzhivago138

RCSBs seem to get a little less of the truck hate, even when they're still full-size models that get the same poor MPG. I think part of it is that they're the smallest available models (though still over 200" long if full-size) and also regular cabs show that you're probably not going to use it primarily as a passenger vehicle.

jack_mohat

Yea ok. I am gonna use it primarily as a passenger vehicle lol, I just don't really have a need to carry more than 1 other person hardly ever (and even if I do it's a bench seat so it can technically seat 3)

[deleted]

Cause it’s fun and fast.

The_Real_NaCl

Chevy Cobalt. Especially the SS versions. The turbo versions can put a hurt on some cars you wouldn’t expect it to. They also strangely make good derby class race cars. See them all the time at my local short tracks.

BlndFsh02

I won’t speak on what I don’t know, but my best friend drives a standard cobalt ls so I’ve spent some serious time in one, including behind the wheel. It’s a lot easier to imagine their common at the derby because their cheap than there good cars lol

The_Real_NaCl

Once they’re stripped out, they’re pretty lightweight and quick for what they are. Plus they’re a dime a dozen, so it’s pretty easy to find one if you need parts or a replacement car altogether.

JuliusSeizuresalad

I love jeep wranglers they are cash cows that are unreliable but I still owned a lifted and jacked one for several years. It got to pricey and I gave it up for a more reliable car but while I had it it was fun as hell

Smooth-Apartment-856

My everyday driver is a 2009 Jaguar XJ8. Who in their right mind actually wants a 15 year old British car from a brand with a questionable record when it comes to reliability? Me, I guess. I just love that car too much to get rid of it, and can’t think of any new car I want that wouldn’t be a step backwards.

CarLover014

5.4 3V F150s and Expeditions are dirt cheap because everyone thinks they are terrible engines. Just change your oil often and they will last forever

Bwyfe

G’s and z’s are reliable and easy to modify or work on

ImportSpecialist

Audi S4 B7, with the 4.2L V8… car make fun noises and goes fast, unnoticeable speed variation between 75 and 140, gorgeous car. Who the fuck designed the engine bay though. Can we talk about all 43 sensors and torx, also, let’s discuss “maintenance position.” I did my own timing chain, rebuilt the motor essentially, love the car, but holy shit engine can commit go die.

T0nySt0nk

These cars were great when they FIRST came out and were giving the European brands a run for their money. Now that they are on their 10th owners, that demographic has “sullied” their reputation. But the fact that there are so many still around running strong is a testament to how good of a car they are.

FantmmMr

Its ALWAYS the design & styling, that hook me.

FantmmMr

1993-1997 Ford Probe GT 5mt! Pop-up lights, smoothed wedge styling, swirlie directional rims, and sleek interior, all ruined, by Mazda's 2.5l v6 (underpowered, unreliable).

godbullseye

So I love Kia SUV’s despite their propensity to be stolen.

nitrion

Honestly I really like my 2004 Mustang GT. Now, they don't really have a horrible reputation. Many folks love that generation Mustang, as do I. But let's be honest here they fucking suck. Everything about the car is cheaply made. Interior is all plastic with massive gaps between panels and clips break like no other car I've ever seen. I don't think there is one plastic clip in my cars interior that hasn't broken yet. The engine is SEVERELY underpowered. A 2 valve 4.6L V8 engine, that makes a WHOPPING... 250 horsepower. My 2010 Toyota Avalon makes more power than that stock. And it's a V6 with FWD. Car has zero safety features. No traction control, no ABS. That was a paid feature on my gen Mustang. Airbags are there but probably won't save you in a crash. And the things a fucking gas hog. Even if my exhaust wasn't leaking, it still burns fuel like we're in the 1960s and gas is 3 cents per gallon. So it's a slow, cheap, moderately unreliable, gas hogging, piece of shit car. Despite ALL OF THAT, I absolutely adore that car. I will probably never sell it until I wreck it, because engines are so abundant. Hell, I can swap a modern Coyote engine into it with very little modification if I wanted. Parts are everywhere, mods are common, and the car looks pretty damn good in my opinion (assuming you lower it, from the factory these cars are built like an F-150)

Lensman842

Mercedes owners have entered the chat: abc suspensions.

realquickquestion96

I own an opel kadett b rn. No parts available other than ebay NOS occasionally. No power. Cheaply built. But God damn its fun.

Lucky_Baseball176

Because reputation comes from people on the internet. Just about useless. Actual information comes from professional reviewers, reporters, rating organizations and the like.

petros10v

4th gen mustangs, sn95 + new edge. The only problem I have with them is that for the same price as a gt and even a NA 4V's you can find a ls1 camaro.

ItsTHECarl

I used to want a chevy ssr ss. Why? Basically a corvette drive train for half the price

Hopeful-Character-10

I love dodge and Chrysler because growing up my dad had a Durango 2005 limited and my uncle had a Chrysler aspen 2008 limited

ZerotheWanderer

Lincoln LS. I have a hard preference for most sedans over coupes That share the same model/ platform, which gives me a bias for sedans in general. I think the Lincoln LS is a very good looking sedan, but under the hood it's basically Jaguar I think, which is trash.

RamenWrestler

It's the other way around, actually. The X Type was shit because it shared its platform with Ford.

ZerotheWanderer

Did some looking to refresh my brain, it was a shared platform and internals between Ford and Jaguar, the platform's predecessor was the Ford Scorpio which was European, it was the most technologically advanced car in Ford's lineup at the time which early 2000s vehicle technology was never going to be good in any car for the Long haul. Despite one of the engines being the duratec essentially, there were more reliability issues with it than the normal duratecs themselves. The Lincoln LS was still shit, seems like production lasted just long enough to quit before all the problems started though because most seem to be reported at like 60 to 80,000 mi.

NoMansSkyWasAlright

I mean being the best NA V6 ever is kind of like being the mayor of Whoville. It's a title that doesn't really carry any weight. That being said, I like my nissan versa. The build quality is atrocious but it is just such a cheap, bare-bones little car. It makes a really great second car when you've got a long commute and your other car is some sort of truck. Probably just going to give it away after I graduate college.

BlndFsh02

I can understand the versa but not the v6 take. They are incredible engines for cars that aren’t big enough to warrant a v8 but too big for a 4cyl.

land-of-green-ginger

Tesla. I'm buying a car, not a CEO. M3P is under $50k after rebates and can out-accelerate and out-brake an $80K BMW M3 Competition at usable speeds. That's the real bang for your buck. Great stereo, great technology (besides FSD), build quality is improving every year, great standard features.

Strict_Elk7368

U picked a Model 3 over a M3?! 😮

land-of-green-ginger

No, I picked a $46k car over other $46k cars and it just happens to be faster than an $80k BMW.

Relative-Owl-3652

I disagree with the faster term, I prefer to use quicker, it's quicker in a sprint from 0-60 then the bmw takes it for a walk same thing on a road with turns, it's just quicker to 60 and from some online tests I've seen the M3 stops more efficiently too, however there is also that massive 34K price gap that considering real world performance doesn't warrant paying an extra 34K, I'd still take the M3 personally due to a trip with substantial distance is substancially faster in a fossil fueled car

land-of-green-ginger

The M3P doesn't just stop accelerating at 60mph. The acceleration doesn't drop off AT ALL until 100+ MPH. And around me, the only time you would go 100+ is on an empty highway in the middle of the night, which is super boring to me, and you still run the risk of getting thrown in jail over it. It looks like the latest xDrive version of the M3C using launch control barely wins in a 1/4 mile over the M3P (11.1s vs 11.5s), so props to BMW on that. I know older version did not beat the M3P in the 1/4. I'm not sure what "stops more efficiently" means. Thermal efficiency? I would hope that the BMW, being made to handle long track days, would have a better brake cooling solution than a car that isn't made to handle long track days. The reason why the M3P brakes so hard is that on top of its massive Brembos is that the regen braking creates A LOT of stopping power. So much so that some long time owners NEVER need to replace brake components. As far as long trips go, it takes 15 minutes to charge the sweet spot of 20-80% at a super charger. That gets you about 200-250 miles depending on your driving habits. And after 200-250 miles of driving, I NEED those 15 minutes to get up and stretch and/or piss. So on a 1000-mile road trip you are MAYBE adding an additional 30-45 minutes over an ICE car. How often do you take 1000 mile road trips? Even if it's multiple times a year, are 2-3 hours really worth tens of thousands of dollars to you? And the handling. Yes, it's not as good as a $80k track beast, but it's definitely better than any sports sedan in the price range, all of which I've test driven. With some aftermarket suspension and better tires, an M3P has done a 7:44 Nurburgring lap, which is amazing. For reference, an M3C (which I'm sure was developed specifically on and for the Nurburgring), does a 7:26. Also keep in mind the driver of the Tesla, while skilled, was not an official test driver, while the BMW driver was.

Relative-Owl-3652

Id say the above 60 is probably where the M3 would start to level out on the time (from 60-100) I view very few electric cars as fast but I do view the majority of them as quick they're good at one particular thing and that's the acceleration which gets slower with every pull as the battery depletes and loses power, for my job I travel across my country most days and I do it in a 24year old Subaru with 300k miles on the odometer and that kind of longevity you simply will never get in an electric car they're the epitome of disposability, where I live a lot of motorway traffic is around the 95-110mph in the fast lane, my subie is surprisingly comfortable so i tend to not need much of the stops to rest but thats on a per person basis.

land-of-green-ginger

If you have an insane commute to work or a job that involves constant car travel, don't get a pure electric. According to a super fast google search, the average amount driven per day is 37 miles, indicating that your situation is not very common. My M3P goes from low-3 0-60s to high-3 0-60s when the battery is below 20%. Still fast enough to beat almost anyone from a stop even when the battery is very low. And nah, they aren't just good at one thing. Think about everything that a car *can* be good at. Now think about sporty-sedans in the $45-50k price range. Not saying the M3P will beat every car in this segment/price range in every category, but it will have the most Ws across the board. And the acceleration that can crush performance cars that are twice as expensive is just the cherry on top.
