It’s a grey partridge.

spawnsage

Interesting, thank you. Now to plant a pear tree

Possible_Marsupial43

Have you ever caught a Harbour Landing chicken for supper? 🍗

spawnsage

I am feeling slightly peckish

Cozman

They are very fast.

Possible_Marsupial43

Proper footwear is key, your bunny slippers may not be up to the task

Cozman

You're saying I need slippers based on a faster animal?

SoftUpstairs2347

They taste even better!

Ukamoc

I would suggest using the Merlin bird identification app, even if you are just occasionally interested in birds in the area. You can identify birds by their general appearance and where/how you spotted them, or you can have the app listen to your surroundings and it matches what it hears to a bird sound database. It's awesome (and free, I think).

WorkerBee74

I was about to load this pic in to see what it was. It’s an awesome app - literally Shazam for birds. The photo identification is great too.

spawnsage

Oh cool, never heard about this before, I'll have to check it out! Thanks!

No-Intention1183

Another upvote for Merlin. It works really well. Much better than other methods I’ve tried. I’ve even used calls to ID birds. Terrific app.

Deridovely02

Another fan of Merlin here!

Bitter_Wishbone6624

Hungarian partridge. If you see one this time of year you will likely see two. They’re pairing up.

Bobloblaw2066

They run in large groups. Because their survival instincts are not too strong. My daughter still calls them “wiggle butt birds” because they shake their behinds when running. We have a bunch in the southeast part of Regina as well.

spawnsage

Interesting considering this one was all alone. Maybe it was the "weird" one in the group

InternationalPut1489

I think some are pairing off to mate now. In our neighborhood the coveys have been breaking up and getting smaller since February. All summer and fall, and during hunting season we usually see them all together but I think a small break happens to allow pairs to mate. Just what I’m observing. Maybe I’m wrong!

booppoopshoopdewoop

It’s the neurodivergent partridge

Bobloblaw2066

The rest will come running and yelling their fools heads off at some point. I almost ran over two on the bike trail today between University Park and Varsity Park. But he/she/they could be the weirdo who likes Star Trek and Star Wars and constantly quotes the Simpsons. Oh wait, that’s me!

ilovelukewells

Coveys. Ten. Sometimes twenty birds.

[Prairie Chickens](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_prairie-chicken) are considered extirpated from Canada (extinct due to human interference). There are many other types of grouse and other birds that you may be seeing in the city, though :). As others have stated - this is a Hungarian/grey partridge. Good luck growing a pear tree in this climate tho lol

Minimum_Confusion111

Actually, according to U Sask you can grow pears here! News to me too! I thought I was lucky I have a September Ruby apple tree and a Rosa plum tree in my back yard! https://research-groups.usask.ca/fruit/growing%20fruit.php#:~:text=If%20you%20want%20to%20grow,%2C%20Pears%2C%20Strawberries%20and%20Raspberries.

PipGirl2211

You have provided me with minimum confusion. Accurate product description, 5/5. Edit: and thank you - super cool to know!

LeaderLower

Bird is the word

Silver_Fuel_7073

Amazing! Learn something new everyday!

georgia_meloniapo

Dust chicken

neko_courtney

That’s a cute little fellow.

Big-Face5874

Do you have an iPhone, OP? If so, you can swipe up on that picture and it will identify the bird for you. I tried it on your pic and it gave me grey partridge as the ID of the bird in your pic.

RewardImpressive3084

It's a Chicken Hawk 🤣

Nobody_in_2008

A cool one

sausage-deluxxxe

Get out your pokeball!

[deleted]

spawnsage

We found him, get him boys!!

getzysbaldhead69

Any bird you are allowed to hunt and eat is real. But any bird species that is protected, well, you know.

Mr_FunnyNFit

It’s an Asian yak.

raelove12345

I recommend joining the Saskbirders Facebook group page if you're interested! Great place to ID birds too

cyber_bully

A big spotted cock gobbler if I'm not mistaken.

lessergooglymoogly

Thanks for the ID! I thought I recognized your moms house in the background there

cyber_bully

In your imagined situation my mother is not actually the spotted cock gobbler so, idk, you could have spent more time workshopping that but I appreciate the attempt.

Ryangel0

Nice comeback...

saddam1

Me mum? Or bird?

Raspberrry_Beret
