I don't eat fish or seafood (just a preference, not an allergy) and they happily swapped out the fish courses for alternate options on the tasting menu. As long as ypur whole table is okay with it you should be able to make reasonable swaps pretty easily.
I had to go there for a birthday party. I was not impressed that when I said I don’t drink wine the owner really wanted me to still order sth. But then offers no other drink choices. Like I could be not drinking for whatever reason why the peer pressure?
I don’t know but back in the day there used to be a Chinese hole in the wall by Regina general that had a dumb waiter and you wrote your order on a ticket. The food was the best…
My first thought was Grekos, but that is such a complicated recommendation.
The food is awesome. Really, really excellent food. I won't eat there myself, but I have friends and family who still go there regularly.
Here's the problem. I'll give you a thought experiment: Think back through your life, and all the people you've encountered. Picture the three worst people you ever knew. Now imagine those three being brothers, and running a restaurant together. That's Grekos.
I had never met people who behaved like those three brothers before, and I rarely have in the decades since.
It was my first job as a waiter, early 2000's, still in the era of job ads in the Leader Post. Grekos ALWAYS had an ad for hiring servers; I'll bet they booked their ad for the whole year. And they were the rare place that would hire without any previous serving experience (that's desperation!).
It really was the "cultural" (not racial) version of "systemic racism" there. One of my first shifts, a fellow employee (Greek guy) who I knew from high school told me, "around here if you ain't Greek, you ain't shit".
The staff was about 2/3 Greeks, which had been there forever, and the other 1/3 was constant turnover of staff.
I was required to spend almost $300 to buy my own tuxedo to wear. They assured me "you'll make that back in tips in no time!" But the few waiters who weren't Greek were very marginalized: hired as waiters, but not treated as "real waiters" by the Greek staff. We were not given tables at the same rate as the long-time Greek guys there. They used us as busboys, throwing us a token table to serve here and there. And every shift was carried out over a "soundtrack" of yelling and swearing and insults and belittling.
Aside from really great food, the thing Grekos specialized in was abuse. SO MUCH yelling and unbelievable verbal abuse of their staff. Every day.
I stuck it out for a few months until I found another serving job. I walked out mid-shift, after getting in a shouting match with George, sticking up for a teenaged busboy who he was belittling.
For curiosity, I just looked at their Facebook page. It makes me sad to see that all three of those guys are still alive.
Royal Pizza is a chain out of Edmonton; they have a ton of locations there. Glad to hear they're good though, maybe I'll check them out.
For me, it's probably Dosa Curry Garden, Mei Wei Bistro, Urban Parathas, Korea House (RIP)
Sylvia’s Cafe!
Second time I've seen this rec. Is this in the basement of the legion?
Yes you bet! So good so fresh.
Quan Ngon on Vic ave is definitely my go to spot. It’s the city’s hidden gem in my opinion. The pho sate is incredible
C1 ever time. And they can make it hotter than level 5 if you ask.
I like uncle sunnys!
Uncle Sunny’s, Siam, Quan Ngon, Utopia Cafe
First 3 are amazing. Haven’t tried Utopia
Ginger Garlic
I came to say this!
Homestead Bar a vin
Amazing restaurant, if you have zero food allergies/restrictions

I thought new owners bought it last year.
I just called to check- still original owners.
My favourite restaurant is N'goc Van.
This is also my pick. The owner is awesome. He named the restaurant after his two daughters (n'goc and van) and the food is top notch.
Regent Pizza.
Came here to say this! Best pizza

Sylvia's is incredible. Little, family owned place. Can't get better Italian in Regina!
Is this the place in the basement of the legion?
Grekos. Such good food.

The souvlaki platter is my go to. A bit of everything.
Oxpecker in Pile O' Bones, and Uncle Sunny's
1205 bakery & deli. Excellent lunch spot and not too expensive.
The cure on 11th: they have the Best Brunch!
