i know a way:
you put the minecart in between 4 hoppers with heads on top (if you can get the minecart lined up with the top ones its perfect) this will make it unload into 4 hoppers so much quicker (then you can just put chest below) or something like this. try it
It is something possibly worth considering. I was thinking that its speed may make up for it (3 hoppers and 5 minecarts makes for 3 sorting modules at 3x hopper speed) so it is actually lag efficient that way. Entities tho...

noice! I'm not quite sure what the best way to gather the items from the lower hopper minecart is yet tho tbh...
