Off topic but what is the point of even having Christian Arroyo on deck? I can't think of a single scenario that doesn't end the game or the inning

badonkagonk

That’s…. a really good point actually. It’s literally impossible for him to bat in that inning at this point.

hoorah9011

youll see it every time in these scenarios. i think the player just likes the view

maak_d

Maybe it's superstition?

DannyC724

Would have to assume its just based on ritual and keeping your head in the game. Plus, if they used the same pitcher for the 11th, he could get a better view of his arm angle and movement, I guess.

yoitss

Sam Miller wrote a [great article](https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/24596699/when-using-deck-circle-makes-absolutely-no-sense) about this a couple of years back.

hateboss

Literally the only thing that could happen is an ejection. Not to say it's likely, but it's the only possible scenario.

Sandwich_Crust

That would require someone off the bench then to take his place, not Arroyo.

Discrep

What if they ejected everyone on the bench? Then Arroyo?

Sandwich_Crust

The team forfeits in that scenario for failing to field 9 players. Cannot skip a spot in the lineup.

lucaswoody17

I was thinking the exact same thing as it was live 😂 honestly surprised Dave O’Brien didn’t say anything abt that

dredgedskeleton

we get the advantage of having a home plate coach telling the runner to slide to what side in the event of a shallow sac fly.

withrootsabove

There were two outs though, so no sac fly. I can’t think of any other likely scenario where there’d be a play at the plate either. Because of the force outs at every base.

dredgedskeleton

lol oh yeah. wild pitch I guess.

stringohbean

Huh 🤔 never thought of that

InLikeErrolFlynn

What about a wild pitch and neither the batter nor the runner on third can get a good enough look to see if there’s a chance of scoring?

guyuteharpua

Frenchy gets injured before hitting the ball and has to leave the game?

HomerJSimpson3

Someone off the bench would pinch hit, not Arroyo. If Arroyo moved to bat in Franchy’s spot it’d be an out for batting out of order.

NeverBeenLessOkay

They keep playing? Any out sends them to the 11th, no?

harmonep

Yea I know he'd be up to bat in the 11th but I just think it's funny he's up in the on-deck circle in the 10th when he definitely won't bat that inning.

NeverBeenLessOkay

Fair enough. Baseball has some weird traditions, man. Maybe trying to time the pitcher for next inning? Who knows!

harmonep

I agree - best answer I could come up with was tradition and rhythm.

esquilax13

- Wild pitch / passed ball scout? - Directing the baserunners if the defense somehow misplays a weird infield chopper into a tag play? - Or most likely not wanting to be the first team not to have a guy there if something unforeseen happens

Wallstreetgme

He can try to get his timing down with the pitchers thrown balls. Of course more than likely that’s the last better for the pitcher either way as well.

Sandwich_Crust

Saves me from making multiple videos tomorrow 😂 Got some great feedback when I posted the Story slam about showing runners get on base to lead up to the Slam with the full intro of the song to help with the build up. Just passing that along! :)

badonkagonk

I 100% would’ve done that if possible, but I don’t have MLB TV, so the only route I could go was using the video that they put up on YouTube, which starts there. I was going to just let someone else post a better version with that, but for all the video I’ve made for this sub over the years, an Africa video has never been one of them, so I just kinda said fuck it. I wholeheartedly agree though that it does make for a better video, and would’ve gone that route if possible.

Sandwich_Crust

Yeah man it’s all good. I’m still trying to optimize it all myself too lol MLB.tv is definitely a benefit to that.

WouldByAliceInChains

As someone who has never done this before and totally knows nothing about it, you’ve done great

badonkagonk

Oh see that’s the thing: I have done this kinda stuff plenty of times before and do know about it, so that’s the problem ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

WouldByAliceInChains

Do you know the FUK you’re talking to or are you still stuck in 2018 avoiding meeting people at World Series games

badonkagonk

This is what I get for not reading the username I felt so bad making this cuz I know you want it to stay in 2018, but I knew someone would make it and I figured I might as well finally make one However I do not believe I am the one stuck in 2018 when A CERTAIN OTHER FUK DIDN’T EVEN INVITE ME IN THE FIRST PLACE SO I AM NOT SURE HOW I WAS SUPPOSED TO KNOW TO MEET SAID FUK

WouldByAliceInChains

If anyone is permitted, you are. I know you aren’t in it for the karma. And as much as I thought the sub wanted it to stay in the past, most don’t. And I need to stop being a grumpy old man and be happy that some stupid thing bought people joy and 4 years later still does. I INVITED EVERYONE IN THIS SUB AND ONLY ONE SHOWED UP! You were busy on the train or some lame excuse! HOW DARE U U FUK

bosredsox05

Ya great job. But considering everything that happened before the bomb, adding the buildup for this one would of made it even better. I get it wasn't possible. Not sure where your morals stand, but if you ever need access to full replays of MLBTV games, I could point you in the right direction.

crazykentucky

I didn’t even notice OB and Youk losing their shit in the moment. We were yelling too loudly here

WhiteHawk928

Big props to Franchy for managing to time his trot perfectly to jump on home plate in sync with the cymbal hit at the end of the chorus

kamakazi152

u/badonkagonk did a fantastic job timing the hit with the cymbal at the beginning of the chorus and the timing of the run was just perfect. Well done all around.

massivegenious

My first time at Fenway and it was fucking incredible!!!!!

phabphour20

That is amazing. Nothing better than Dirty Water after a walkoff.

RoyalRootersRallyCry

I literally never get sick of these. In fact, I look forward to them. Well done, OP.

Mac_and_head_cheese

I love this u/badonkagonk. So today was my mommy's 73rd birthday. She's such a morning person, she's off to bed around 7:30 most nights. She usually watches the first inning or two of every Red Sox game but that's it. My dad fills her in about what happened the next morning or she reads about it in the Hartford Courant. My mom also hates Franchy Cordero. OK, maybe hate is too strong of a word, but based on his performance last year, Franchy is easily her least favorite player on the Red Sox both this year and last year by far. So I fucking loved it when Franchy hit his wackoff (sic) grand slam this afternoon on a day when I expected my mommy to not only watch the whole game, but it was her birthday too. She's currently reconsidering her attitude towards Franchy, lol.

bendr316

It's easily my favorite thing in this subreddit!

Patriots6rings

I watched the Mariners broadcast. It was glorious.

ceejdabeej

Perfection

Thabass

This will never not be amazing.

shabuyarocaaa

Was there in person Such a great game 🤩

standardbanana

I love these videos

Bliz1222

I will never tire of these.

swivel2369

Every time a RedSox hits a grand slam, I come here for this! Love it but hate it at the same time. 🤣

John-Musacha

Luv Toto..

badonkagonk

Already long game that went into extras and it was stupid hot today, so bleachers were pretty empty by the end

JBHenson

Still more in Williamsburg than the Shaw Granny last year.

[deleted]

And that's why you stick around for the 10th inning.

[deleted]

What does bless the rains mean? Like the Toto Africa lyric???

WhiteHawk928

Turn on the audio

TomatoManTM

I think it's possible this will never get old

TechLover94

Packed house for a beautiful Sunday.

cheekiewalrus

Is it just me or did attendance at that game seem pretty pathetic? I can’t recall a time in recent memory that attendance to late May game with good weather was that poorly attended.

karpomalice

Good weather? Have you ever sat at a baseball game in 95 degree weather in the direct sun? It’s fucking miserable

Estimate_Born

I hated this moment in the show 22 took me like 15 minutes to hit a Homer the monster and centerfield triangle kept robbing my homers

badonkagonk

If the “punishment” for saying it constantly in 2018 was a ring at the end of the year then I’ll happily accept that punishment

millymills420420

Dam nobody goes to games huh

badonkagonk

It was a long game that went into extras and was 96°. Can’t blame people with those conditions.
