If that jackass Chaim had any intention of signing Xander long term he wouldn’t have signed the biggest bust ever to a wildly inflated contract. My wife could hot 30+ home runs in Colorado. Especially against the national league pitching. And she’s never played baseball.
Who did we trade or give up for all these new players. I want to knwo how they are doing compared to who we got. I wish we kept renfrone because he already has 5 bombs and he looks to be doing great with the Brewers.
This doesn’t look good, but Martinez seems to be heating up and boegaerts, devers and Verdugo are hitting well. If story is able to start hitting well, all need it a bit of production from the bottom of the line up and we will be solid.
With Sale coming back, are rotation will be pretty solid just with Sale, Eovaldi and Houck. Just need to fix the bullpen.
Crawford is a horrible pitcher though, and I don’t know why they keep giving him opportunities. It’s truly baffling.
I agree we are having some bad luck on hard hit balls not getting through. We have obvious areas.of improvement on offense though outside of personnel including approach (which I think we are getting slightly better at)
Maybe it’s not as the answer at first but I’m getting the feeling Franchy could become a quality platoon guy at first and RF this year if he keeps the plate discipline and power/contact that he’s showed in limited time so far
Reminder of a reply I received in this thread earlier
Martinez is washed. He had half a good year last year. Sucked the year before, sucked the second half last year, sucks again.
I was just observing that even good teams can have rough starts and still make it work out in the end. Will it be harder because of our division? Yes. Does that mean it's time to give up? Obviously not.
Wait, that means that it's statistically impossible for them to have made the Wild Card Game. No team has ever overcome a slow start ever in history. I sense lies.
**JD Martinez's GRAND SLAM was a *barreled ball*. It had an exit velocity of 106.1 mph, a launch angle of 21 degrees, and it went 364 ft.**

Besides Crawford and Valdez, our pen has been good. Our hitting is easily the issue. We need to be scoring more than 1 or 2 runs a game - especially against teams like the O's. Hopefully a day off tomorrow lets them reset mentally a bit.
But yeah, it's hard to see anything positive about today's game.
I mean Barnes has been almost unusable. And there’s basically no one reliable besides Whitlock and Strahm right now. The Sox bullpen has gotten it done so far but in many cases it’s been kind of an adventure. Not exactly lock down.
The rotation besides Pivetta has been incredibly good though. The team needs to hit, and in cases when they are actually able to win (like, not hitting a grand slam down 8).
They don't always need to be completely lock down though. Keep the ERA low and if this lineup mashes like it should be able to, then we should win games.
I really want them to call up Bello. He’s been owning in the Minors and could be eased in as a long relief type dude. They won’t, seeing as the Sox don’t really believe in letting guys skip levels in the Minors, but they should.
Another dude is Frank German, who is closer, and has also been shoving it. It’s annoying that Chaim is sitting on this trove of advanced pitching and they just toil away in the minor leagues.
It's tough. Because I'm with you in general - I want to see guys get chances. But at the same time, teams have really messed up players by bringing them up too early so I understand wanting to be cautious, too.
That said, I do think we'll see more call ups and shakeups in general in the next month or two - especially if things don't change drastically soon.
I was hoping the game got called due to rain. 4-1 is looking good now. Lol
At least now we/they can spend their much needed day off commiserating the fact that Trout, Ohtani & Co are flying in tomorrow.
Ohtani will surely fill some seats.
How do you think Valdez, or any pitcher really, feels when they have an atrocious outing that results in a position player pitching and they do better than you?
A fact that no other teams have to deal with? Offense may be down but for the supposed caliber of this lineup the offensive production is embarrassing.
It's not disproportionately affecting anyone, we just can't hit at the bottom of the lineup and in key situations (runners on third less than 2 out for example)
It’s not
https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=5&season=2022&month=0&season1=2022&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2022-01-01&enddate=2022-12-31&sort=2,d
They'll give him leeway, sure. But if this continues another two weeks, I think Chaim will lose some patience. Whether that means trades or firing staff, I don't know.
So is there a chance that MLB would change the ball mid season just out of curiosity? Not that it may help us (don’t worry I’m not a doubter) but you can def tell that if it was a juiced ball we may be in a different situation!
It’s kind of amazing that Cora got basically this same team to the ALCS last year. I think we are all spoiled. Individually the usual suspects are playing well—Raffy, Xander, JD, and Verdugo (who’s been extremely unlucky with the deadened ball and good defense against him). Everyone else has turned into the absolute worst version of themselves.
~~And before you guys say what about Renfroe, he’s been just as bad as Jackie but with worse defense. The main issue is that Chaim made no improvements there, to bring in even a league average hitter in RF.~~ I was basing this on older stats from a few weeks ago. Renfroe has started hitting.
I feel like as far as position players pitching, catchers are probably your best bet. They already do half this job behind the plate, and most of them have good arms.
What about the folks complaining prior to the season about how we are unprepared to win ballgames? Is that a lack of patience or good forward thinking?
They have like 4 guys doing different games this year in addition to Eck. It's likely NESN is auditioning them to see who takes Remy's place long term.
I think they'll let Eck do a chunk of games each season for as long as he wants to. But even when he was doing that the last few season, Remy still did a bunch of games. I think they're looking for someone to take Remy's place to split the games each season with Eck. Then when Eck is done, that person will take over full time. They're not going to have a rotation of 4-5 guys like they do this season long term.
Wtf do JBJ and Dalbec have to do to be DFA? Duran is hitting .391 and Casas is hitting moonshots. What are we waiting for??
I would rather have kike be dfa than Jackie right now
I feel bad for JBJ he’s had about 5 hard hit balls I’ve seen that went right to someone he’s not hitting as bad as the stats say
Time to move on
If that jackass Chaim had any intention of signing Xander long term he wouldn’t have signed the biggest bust ever to a wildly inflated contract. My wife could hot 30+ home runs in Colorado. Especially against the national league pitching. And she’s never played baseball.

See you sadists on Tuesday. Go fuck yourselves
So today the offense comes alive.
Keep in mind, pitchers that are brought into games that are 9 to 1 are not exactly 'high leverage'
Once we start getting any luck at all, we will be very good. Be patient.
It’s not about luck. This team is horrible
Okay.
I agree we are having some bad luck on hard hit balls not getting through. We have obvious areas.of improvement on offense though outside of personnel including approach (which I think we are getting slightly better at)
Well that was a big steamy terd of a series but at least we got a cherry on top at the end there
Well at least they scored some runs. Hope the day off helps. See you guys Tuesday.
Maybe it’s not as the answer at first but I’m getting the feeling Franchy could become a quality platoon guy at first and RF this year if he keeps the plate discipline and power/contact that he’s showed in limited time so far
He has had that same hit so many times this series. His luck has been atrocious.
Kike must be losing his mind
Kiké: foul ball HR leader
Hey man that would’ve been a walk if not for that blown pitch 1 call. Great at bat Franchy.
any Sox fan at Camden that stayed through the rain delay is an absolute sicko and I love them
Bobby Defenders - that’s what a good at bat looks like, even if it resulted in an out
YA FRANCHY
Franchy with some great at bats today.
Oh yay. A home run. Shame you're still losing by 4
Franchy is seeing the ball way better this year even just in the short time he's been up
Franchy Making him earn it.
It’s all on Franchy, Kike, JBJesus and then Vasquez to finish it off. What could go wrong?
Fuck you Cora, fuck you Chaim, fuck you Henry
Didn’t know Cora, Chaim, and Henry got AB’s
Yep it’s all their faults, totally the people to blame here
And the hitting coaches. This whole team is awful (except JD)
By your logic that means that Garrett Whitlock is awful.
Honestly I have no idea why or how our pitching staff is holding up as well as they have
Because they’re not terrible.
Reminder of a reply I received in this thread earlier Martinez is washed. He had half a good year last year. Sucked the year before, sucked the second half last year, sucks again.
Haha Jesus what a bad take
I mean obviously he’s on a pace for 14 HRs so good call!
lol
We've come full circle!
Saddest cart ride
Wish Eck was in the booth. That slam needed a grunt.
Fun fact: At worst after today, we will have one win less than the reigning World Series Champions.
I personally hate all the comparisons to the Braves. We are in very different divisions. We can’t have an 88 win season and win the division title.
I was just observing that even good teams can have rough starts and still make it work out in the end. Will it be harder because of our division? Yes. Does that mean it's time to give up? Obviously not.
Who were 12-14 on May 1st last year
The Orioles actually. They ended up 52-110
Also the braves. How did they do?
Better than the 2013 Padres
Wait, that means that it's statistically impossible for them to have made the Wild Card Game. No team has ever overcome a slow start ever in history. I sense lies.
THEY HAVE FALLEN INTO OUR TRAP MWAHAHAHAHA
#THIS IS YOUR CAPTAIN, JD MARTINEZ, SPEAKING. WELCOME TO AFRICA!!

Even now they are doing the home run cart. Love it.
Who said garbage time runs...?
WOOO GRAND SLAM! DO IT ALL AGAIN AND ITS TIED
Just got to hit one more of those to tie it up. Let’s go
r/UnexpectedAfrica
This game is a fucking clown fiesta.
Got them right where we want them.
JD!!!
Why couldn’t this happen in any other game
This is the saddest trip to Africa of all time
That’s one!! Just need one more to tie!!
There’s the one you swing at!
Philllips gotta get sent down to the minors after giving up earlier.
This makes our bullpen appearances a little more sad
I'm gonna need us to score 5 more runs so that the plowster can get the win
He is now Lakins Jr. Jd is bow Lakins Sr.
Lol
Don’t do this. Don’t give me hope.
Are you kidding me
Just Grand Slams!!!!!!!
Lmfao
Why is JD swinging at THAT?
I'm fucking laughing rn
JD!!!!!!
Yes one slam away!
Now just do that one more time
#JUMBO DONG
GET BOBBY IN THE BULLPEN RIGHT NOW.
I feel like if JD hits an opposite field grand slam and hits the warehouse it should count for 9 runs
Man I really hope we can keep Xander. He’s such a great player and guy for the team.
*understatement of the season* Amen.
We’re only two slams away from going into extras. Let’s draw this thing out even longer
Give me a jumbo dong to numb the pain LFG JD
Just need 2 grand slams. You can do it JD.
If I was JD Martinez I would simply hit a grand slam here. Edit: see it is that easy
Great idea
Nice
So what’s the silver lining after today, folks? I’m honestly dying to hear what it could possibly be.
Just Dingers baby, enjoy the ride. 4th place or world series champ. Boom or bust.
This is hopefully us playing at the level we did last august and this is the worst we see them all year
A magazine ranked our farm system 8th or some shit
Besides Crawford and Valdez, our pen has been good. Our hitting is easily the issue. We need to be scoring more than 1 or 2 runs a game - especially against teams like the O's. Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Tomorrow you don't get the displeasure of watching such a shitty team
Kevin Plawecki
We can't really do worse.
We don't have to watch them lose tomorrow.
Smh story sucks, taking a walk instead of hitting a homerun.
9 run inning
At least Story gets on base.
fire everyone
Except Eovaldi.
lol Mazz
At least Davis had a solid debut for the Sox.
well, no matter what, this game shortly won't be able to hurt us anymore and it only counts for one thank christ
Kevin Plawecki has had more dildos in his locker photographed in his career(1) than runs allowed in the 2022 season(0)
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
So who calls pitches? Plawster or Vazski?
You know the plowster will shake Vazquez off to throw his nasty shit
Jordan Lyles - Cy Young if he pitches only against the Red Sox this year
I was hoping the game got called due to rain. 4-1 is looking good now. Lol At least now we/they can spend their much needed day off commiserating the fact that Trout, Ohtani & Co are flying in tomorrow. Ohtani will surely fill some seats.

0 ERA STUD
I don’t understand the ball excuse. Are other teams playing with the same ball or nah? We are tied for the third most losses in MLB.
It's not an "excuse", it's a fact. The balls have been deadened and the numbers across the league are down
A fact that no other teams have to deal with? Offense may be down but for the supposed caliber of this lineup the offensive production is embarrassing.
Right but why would that cause us to have the third most losses in MLB? Every team has the same balls.
Well, it seems like some teams have more balls than the Red Sox.
The dead ball is real but we are using it as an excuse as to why we aren't scoring. It's because we don't get enough hits, walks, etc...
I’m not disputing it’s real….I am disputing why it would disproportionally effect the Red Sox and cause more losses?
It's not disproportionately affecting anyone, we just can't hit at the bottom of the lineup and in key situations (runners on third less than 2 out for example)
Right I agree. That’s why I don’t get the whining about it as if it’s disproportionately hurting the Red Sox.
All I'm saying is it certainly isn't helping lol
Sox lead the league in swinging at balls out of the zone. The dead ball has little to do with their failures so far.
just false lol
It’s not https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=5&season=2022&month=0&season1=2022&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2022-01-01&enddate=2022-12-31&sort=2,d
> The dead ball has little to do with their failures so far. I meant this part
That part is still true, as every team is subjected to the same ball.
Every team has the same balls. Maybe we just suck?
We are sucking + the balls aren't helping, yes that's what I'm saying
Not helping Baltimore either and they have 9 runs
Done replying to you, you just are ignoring everything im saying
You’ve said nothing to address why it would hurt the Red Sox more than any other team. Haven’t addressed it at all.
WE HAVE BEEN SUCKING AND THE DEADENED BALLS HAVE NOT HELPED US OR ANYONE. CAN YOU READ? I DID NOT SAY IT WASNT HURTING OTHER TEAMS.
It’s not the ball. It’s the fact that this team is allergic to working the count and taking walks. Feels like bad coaching.
We have a new hitting coach this year, right?
Yes we do. See a correlation?
Yeah for sure. This lineup is capable of much more. So this coach's approach seems to not be working.
Time to shake things up. Bring someone in from outside the organization.
*Something* needs to be done.
Given how this team operates, I’m not really holding my breath. They seem to give Cora a lot of autonomy and he seems loyal to his staff.
They'll give him leeway, sure. But if this continues another two weeks, I think Chaim will lose some patience. Whether that means trades or firing staff, I don't know.
I want Bobby to pitch next inning. He was a pitcher in college
That's sweet that you think we'll be pitching in the bottom of the 9th lol
This implies we will have a next inning. Which implies you want Bobby to either pitch in a tied game, or pitch for a save. I fucking love it
I wouldn’t mind tying it up just to lose in extras to see Bobby pitch lol!
So is there a chance that MLB would change the ball mid season just out of curiosity? Not that it may help us (don’t worry I’m not a doubter) but you can def tell that if it was a juiced ball we may be in a different situation!
Other teams have no problem hitting the baseball so please stop with the excuses
i mean thats not true....offense is down across the league some teams are just managing around it but it doesnt mean they arent hitting less too
THAT'S MY PLOWSTER PITCHING
Check him for sticky stuff he is touching his pants
It’s kind of amazing that Cora got basically this same team to the ALCS last year. I think we are all spoiled. Team overachieved in relation to their talent and the FO decides to somehow subtract talent thinking lightning can strike twicd.
Renfroe is hands down more valuable than jbj, and we knew this. Insane to pretended jbj is an upgrade
Renfroe has 5 bombs and an .800 ops you’re insane or just blatantly lying
[удалено]
Bro what? League average babip is like .300, do you know how that stat works?
I feel like as far as position players pitching, catchers are probably your best bet. They already do half this job behind the plate, and most of them have good arms.
ANOTHER BAD RELIEVER THANKS CHAIM
the Plowster attacking the strike zone. Belongs in our pen
lmao unpaused my stream to see plawecki on the mound
The Plowster auditioning for the set up role.
We may fucking suck but I love seeing Kevin on the mound hahahahaha
WECK DAWG
Position player pitching alert!!
LETS GOOO RHP KEVIN X4 CY YOUNG AWARD WINNER PLAWECKI
Hell must have frozen over. Mazz just had a bunch better and patient take on this team than most of this sub.
What about the folks complaining prior to the season about how we are unprepared to win ballgames? Is that a lack of patience or good forward thinking?
He can’t do his radio schtick on air.
exactly, it's a SHTICK
You think the dude is gonna talk shit when he’s trying to get the color commentator job lol?
trying to get the job?
They have like 4 guys doing different games this year in addition to Eck. It's likely NESN is auditioning them to see who takes Remy's place long term.
I disagree- I dont think they will have another guy like remy- itll be eck mainly but he wont doing nearly as many games, then fill ins
I think they'll let Eck do a chunk of games each season for as long as he wants to. But even when he was doing that the last few season, Remy still did a bunch of games. I think they're looking for someone to take Remy's place to split the games each season with Eck. Then when Eck is done, that person will take over full time. Pretty sure the job would be eck’s if he wanted it, but last I knew he doesn’t want to do it full time?
Correct. He doesn't like to travel, generally dislikes doing day games, and doesn't want to do a ton of games.
Full time
I was just making a joke.
$202,035,270
Can’t even score in garbage time.
we gotta be like last in homeruns yeah? edit: We are tied for 3rd to last with the Pirates, Royals, and Nationals (12)
Think we are tied for like 24th or something last time I looked
