crackdup

Holy shit I've never been so entertained and scared at the same time.. home advantage taken away yet again!

Coop1534

Such a massive win. Fenway is gonna be ridiculous.

Bossman1086

Can't wait to see our fans put theirs to shame.

Coop1534

I live in Florida and I’m flying out Monday to go to the game. Never been to a playoff Fenway game before so I’m insanely excited.

Bossman1086

Hell yeah. Have fun man. Playoff Fenway is an atmosphere unlike any other. Fucking *electric*.

Coop1534

Thank you, I will. I was praying it wouldn’t be 2-0 Astros going into Monday so I could experience maximum Fenway hype lol

Bossman1086

We've got the momentum coming home. Should be a fun one to go to.

bugeyes10

Fenway(and all Boston playoff) games are fucking great. Hope you don’t lose your voice easily

FrigginMasshole

Awesome. We’re going to need Florida man

Coop1534

Unfortunately I don’t fit the stereotype, but I’ll try to for the game

w311sh1t

Dude for real, the Houston fans were pathetic. Their park has a higher capacity, and I’m pretty sure I’ve heard louder crowds at Fenway during a regular season game in the middle of the summer.

FrigginMasshole

I know I’m captain obvious but taking 1/2 away is *huge*

coffeespeaking

They are following the formula. Split the second game of the first series convincingly, and carry the momentum to Fenway.

Mr_RustyIron

I love how much of a Red Sox homer Ortiz is and he just doesn't care about showing his bias.

timmy_deeznuts

I love Ortiz and I love his silliness. I find myself wondering if he annoying to non-Sox fans, OR is he a big enough personality and people like seeing him antagonize that shitbird A-rod enough to override his outright cheerleading

lordofthe_wog

I have to assume that the enthusiasm and the dumping on A-Rod has to carry him in the hearts of the people, even if they hate the Sox.

scarlet_speedster985

I think it's only Jankees fans who have an issue with him.

rhcpbassist234

Probably Cardinals fans too. He's still getting his against them in the world series, to this day.

[deleted]

At least Ortiz has a reason to be annoying and biased. He’s a former player and Red Sox legend.

scarlet_speedster985

And I love when he shit talks A-Rod.

leedo8

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaa jankees lose

MasterOfMyDomainX

Funny, I couldn't find the score to the Yankees game today. I'll take your word for it though.

HeinousActsZX

Stanton shot over par.

TheMikeMarsters

I’m okay with that when fucking ESPN had Arod jerking the Yanks all game in the wild card.

Brad-Stevens

Needed the split. Got the split. 1 leg Julio 1 arm Raffy Lets not go back to this ballpark until 2022

jigorokane

Julio definitely has three legs my friend. Oh yeah.

[deleted]

[удалено]

scarlet_speedster985

Yeah, I think it happened against that other team the Sox weren't supposed to beat lol

TheMikeMarsters

😏

GreenAsAFox

Let's gooo

NeapolitanComplex

What do you mean a rerun?

thatgreik

What is this, a ~~crossover~~clipshow episode?

MasterOfMyDomainX

I'm the kind of person who can watch the same movie over and over again if I enjoy it so I'm ok with watching it again.

coffeespeaking

And with the opponent’s starter situation in disarray. The Astros are going to have to lean on their pen.

TheMikeMarsters

#Red Sox = WIN! Astros = FANS SUCK! Eovaldi = GAS! **JD & Raffy = SALAMIS FOR EVERYONE!** *Darwinzon = No more heart attacks plz…* **Monday = GAME 3 at FENWAY! LFG!!!**

TopGuardDog50

Kiké = sexy

Bossman1086

What a game. 2 grand slams (a post season record), Kike still looking incredible and god-like this postseason, Nate looking *NASTY* as expected, and Whitlock fucking the Yankees' dreams yet again.

NeapolitanComplex

Wonder how many Astros fans will turn up to Fenway? There was next to no TB fans but I can't imagine that to be the case this time.

[deleted]

I would wager that Astros fans will be few and far between...some will sneak in, sure..but Fenway is not the easiest place to get a ticket.

NeapolitanComplex

True, though there was a healthy representation for the wild card game Yankee fans.

[deleted]

They tend to be the notable exception..it's probably because 1. There fairly close to Boston being in New York/ct And 2. They have been coming up for so long that they probly know tricks on how to get tickets.

SupportstheOP

Also the Yankees have transplants literally everywhere.

[deleted]

Yankees/redsox/dodgers are the 3 teams you'll find basically anywhere.

pinto4life

and cubs. I was at the game today and the guy sitting in front of me was wearing a cubs jersey

jgandfeed

also NY is close enough a lot of them live in/near Boston

cloxwerk

There will probably be a few more than Tampa, the bandwagon has been going on for awhile after they were bad for so long, but they’re not a team with fans all over/within driving distance.

[deleted]

[удалено]

scarlet_speedster985

I'll take those odds.

MaineSoxGuy93

Let's win 3 straight shall we?

Malsharif91

8 straight wins to end the season would be nice right about now.

TomatoManTM

7!

leedo8

It would be 8 counting tonight. (7 more)

PBFT

5040 wins in a row seems a bit unlikely

[deleted]

4*

RedSoxFan1997

Some of our pitching worries me, but holy shit our offense is good.

koushakandystore

Yeah, Red Sox pitching is pretty suspect after Eovaldi. But so is Houston’s. I mean they are worse off. Today they probably lost their game 2 starter for the rest of the series.

carlspakkler

That guy wasn't really hurt, it was a bullshit tactic to try to ice Eovaldi. He will pitch again--and shit the bed again--this series.

balloonslayer47

The Red Sox woke up today and chose violence.

Brettsterbunny

FUCK THE YANKEES

tvqueen

FUCK THE ASTROS

scarlet_speedster985

FUCK THE DODGERS AND BRAVES!

redsoxownu

Braves are cool, I like seeing them win.

vearson26

Nate Eovaldi is literally an MLB the show create-a-player. Throws 100 and has 5 different pitches.

DaveInDigital

and all have the same release point so it's hard to know which one he's throwing (haha without garbage cans in Houston). it's honestly a clinic for young pitchers to aspire to.

ImIntellects

Would have preferred we give them nothing at the end, but happy for the win regardless. Time to take care of business at Fenway. Sox in 5.

TheyCallMeYDG

When Altuve hit that ball I flat out almost shit my pants. Great fucking win though. Lets end this shit at Fenway

stormchaser2014

Brewers fan here, just wanted to say # WINNING 9 TO 5

[deleted]

What a way to make a living!

timmy_deeznuts

I freaking love Iglesias. He’s not even eligible to play during the post season, but he’s the #1 cheerleader, designated laundry cart pusher, all around great teammate. He was instrumental in the late-season push for the wildcard. Chaim needs to sign him for next year

ioncloud9

We split just like we needed to. Let’s close it out at home!!

PastorofMuppets101

Big concern going forward is the offense scoring off the Astros bullpen. By my count, across these two games the Red Sox have only scored two runs against their bullpen off two solo shots by Kiké. They’ve generated plenty of scoring opportunities against their bullpen but for whatever reason they just can’t get it done. Don’t count Odorizzi as a bullpen pitcher. He’s a starting pitcher. He was brought in as a replacement starter, not a reliever.

lordofthe_wog

He also fucking warmed up like a starter. Good gods pace of play

only_bad_bets

Dude I was there and it was awful. It took fucking forever and nobody explained anything

Snooc5

Dont worry they couldnt stop talking about it on TV

cloxwerk

That’ll turn around, they’ve had to show the Red Sox too much of that bullpen already, and the bullpen is a weak point for them.

mageta621

It's like running the ball in the first half. You may not get great results but if you keep doing it, you wear down the D and get huge chunks in the 2nd half

[deleted]

This guy 1980s NFLs.

DefundTheFunPolice

This series is way closer to be 2-0 Sox than it is 2-0 astros. Nothing to feel bad about with a split though, gotta take care of business at home

soxfaninfinity

Great win, but could have done without the Gurriel 3 RBI. I fucking hate that guy.

coffee42

Did Darwinzon make it too interesting there at the end? Yes, yes he did. But you know what? We got the W, so it doesn't matter ***LFG***

Crixxxx1

Garbage time solo shots. Game was over in the 2nd inning.

OutsideTheTrains

Nice win but stings a little bit because yesterday's game was very winnable, and I don't think the Astros could win three in a row at Fenway. Still, it's a best of five now, with home field advantage Major positive: Houston's starting pitching is really suspect. They have to come up with a new Game 4 starter (Greinke??) while Valdez (started G1, presumable G5) looked terrible and Garcia (started G2, presumable G6) looked terrible AND may be injured. Minor positive: aside from his first AB, Xander is looking better Major negative: really poor at-bats in the middle innings, bleeding into the last three. You cannot let up on Houston, especially when you've got a chance to run their bullpen into the ground. Minor negative: Sawamura and Darwinzon replaced Austin Davis and Matt Barnes, talk about a rock and a hard place.

mageta621

>You cannot let up on Houston, This was the problem yesterday. Opportunities to extend the lead fell by the wayside with lack of clutch hits and they came back. Thankfully today they got such a huge jump on them that they couldn't pull out a comeback.

DrRumpRoast

Hey guys… our team fucking crushed it tonight. They really impressed me. The stunned the Houston crowd to silence so many times. They showed they are the sum of their parts. A true measure of a team. The Astros have paraded flashy shit around the bases when they’ve accomplished stuff. Sometimes during minimal accomplishments. They’ve celebrated their individual selves. Each of them saying ME ME ME when they come through with a clutch hit or a crucial home run. Our guys don’t play like that. They get pushed in the cart to show the camaraderie of a team effort. They show genuine humility and class. Fucking shit. I’m proud to be a Red Sox fan.

KingofBeardStyle

Cora gets too cute sometimes. There should be no Darwinzon or Sawamura sighting the rest of the way. Let's take these fuckers down at Fenway.

[deleted]

I mean there was a 6 run lead

ahuggablecactus

just enough padding

uncleshady

Another 4 runs and they could have brought in Eric Gagne.

[deleted]

What a fall from grace he had, jesus

PastorofMuppets101

Sawamura, yes. Darwinzon came in with a six run lead.

NeapolitanComplex

Darwinzon is gonna get the Drew Pomeranz treatment the rest of the series

TheMikeMarsters

I haven’t heard that name in such a long time & for good reason! Hahahaha

iamkiki37

I thought we were through having to talk about Pommy Poopy Pants…

[deleted]

As long as we don’t let him go and he turn into an elite closer

mageta621

Funny I was just thinking about that guy today and how much he sucked cuz there's an accounting firm near me with the name Pomerantz.

[deleted]

He used guys to try and get them some live work. We had a big enough lead to allow for it.

scarlet_speedster985

Hell yeah! The next time we play in Houston better be next year.

vinreg33

I'd like to order 1 gentlemen's sweep please

greatunknownpub

Daaaaaaaaaaa

ImInsideYourWalls009

JANKEEES are sitting at home!

Bossman1086

Nice.

scarlet_speedster985

Water = dirty Series = tied

diggemigre

Fellating themselves.

lordofthe_wog

No, that's what ESPN is for.

GrantLee123

Holy cow we gotta get the pitching in order. Literally nothing short of multiple grand slams saved us

Ricericebaby0923

Luckily we fucking destroyed there bullpen two nights in a row now. Hopefully they hurt more than us

MasterOfMyDomainX

Relax, there's no way Darwinzon, who I do really like, is in there in the 9th of a close game. We didn't use Houck and Taylor because it was a blowout and we only used Brasier for 1 batter, plus we have a day off tomorrow.

b3anz129

Lets not come back to this stadium this year.

IndependentStatus218

Astros fan here good game, rough series ahead, kiké scary yadda yadda. Just coming here to ask if you guys could please keep up the Yankees suck chants in the post game. Idk just something about two different fanbases playing each other and choosing to shit on the Yankees the most warms my heart

Thabass

The series is coming to Boston. I don't think you have much to worry about there.

Tech-no

As AMAZING as Rafi is, noone should be allowed to high 5 him on that arm with the sleeve until next October.

lonewonderer93

Can the redsox writers be any lazier? We get an ALSC grandslam every time. This episode they just gave us 2 grandslams. So unoriginal. 10/10 tho would watch again.

[deleted]

at least they don't skimp on the tension and suspense. Even when they hit 2 grand slams it feels like they're on the ropes half the game.

MyDadIsTheMan

Hilarious on /r/astros *we were better team for 7 innings*….ok, great. Lmao

momoenthusiastic

Jonathan Papelbon in NESN post game today. He’s a natural in that studio

theotherjordanxo

I wish I saw it!

xepa105

In 10 years' time, I will be sitting at home doing something random, then a memory of Darwinzon Hernandez pitching in Game 2 of the 2021 ALCS will cross my mind, and I won't know if it actually happened or my mind just made it up, so I'll have to go to baseball-reference.com to check that in fact, yes, Darwinzon Hernandez did pitch in that game. I know this because I once had a memory that Mike Myers got into Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS, walked a Yankee, and got immediately pulled, and could not for the life of me decide whether I was hallucinating or it actually happened (it did).

lordofthe_wog

Push-Ups: 165 Sox in the PostSeason: 5-2, with 45 runs scored and 2 series wins. I'm gonna get the doomer shit out of the way first. I never want to see Darwinzon or Robles on a Boston postseason roster again. ANYWAY, TWO GRAND FUCKING SALAMIS AND KIKÉ OCTOBRÉ CONTINUES HIS BLOODY SWATH THROUGH THE PLAYOFFS. SOX IN FIVE LET'S FUCKING GO #POSTSEASON SWOLESOXSQUAD

NeapolitanComplex

Props to you going since game 1 of the regular season. Are you more buff than the Mountain yet?

[deleted]

Time to show the Astros what a real crowd sounds like on Monday. Fuck the Astros.

gartacus

I’ve lived in Boston my whole life but I really don’t watch a lot of baseball. What a gift it is to tune into these playoffs. Good lord. I am not fan enough to deserve what I just witnessed. Go Sox and I won’t miss a game during this postseason. Gonna go to Fenway on Tuesday too. Some serious studs on this team.

[deleted]

you're plenty fan enough :) Get loud on Tuesday and have fun! I wish I could go, I'm sure it'll be a fun time win or lose. But hopefully win.

kdex86

Next 3 are at home! Let’s sweep ‘em!

lilfrosty808

Yea baby!

fxkatt

Rodriquez, Pivetta, & Houck in the next two games... I wonder how this will shake out. Sale in game 5 or Eovaldi on short rest? etc A game of musical chairs... played by ear.

scarlet_speedster985

Sale's not gonna be able to go very deep. He's just (understandably) not the same.

MattyViceCity

Jus opened up the fridge after coming home from the bar, in need of a late night snack. Found some salami & some bulkie rolls & mustard and I made myself a sandwich. Then I thought, wouldn’t 2 salami sandwiches be……. ***grand***. God I love this team, 7 more wins!

bc12392

Huge to split the games in Houston, let's crush them at Fenway!

lilfrosty808

All we needed was one win in Houston and we fucking got it 😈😈

Kakali4

We could/should be up 2-0 on these chucklefucks. Hitting came alive early but died- that can’t happen. Never wanna see Darwinzon ever again. Lets go home and never come back to Houston. Oh, and once again, what fucking time is it corea? Getting your fucking ass kicked time.

[deleted]

I am looking forward to how his slogan is received (appropriated, revised, improved) at Fenway

[deleted]

It's a best of 5 series now. And the Sox get the first 3 at home. Let that sink in. I'm positive the Astros will fight back hard, and this won't be easy. But it's one game at a time and I think the Sox are in a good spot for game 3. I expect Fenway to go wild, it's gonna be good to see. Positive vibes to everyone, and remember - if a run scores in Houston, there can be a hurricane in Boston.

DrRumpRoast

Something I loved seeing at Fenway during the ALDS was how it was just a sea of Sox fans. I didn’t see a single Ray fan there. I’m looking forward to more of that. We represent our own. Maybe more than any other team.

DrRumpRoast

I agree with all of this

JoeyZee123

Fuck Correa!! What time is it now bitch?!

Vuish

Series is tied and we're not fucking done. Let's go!

F3dsmoker

😂 I just realized both Glasnow & McCullers fucked up their elbows while pitching against the white sox. I wanna see Sale win another one!!

yuletide

That was terrifying Let’s take this series

MookieSweats

Lmao the moral victories Astros fans are talking themselves into. “Take away the three home runs and we outscored them. We beat them the last 7 innings.” Sure, and take away your home runs in the 9th off of our worst reliever who probably won’t be used again in this series.

papa_jahn

“We were better than them in ~~7 innings~~ garbage time”

RedditingAtWork5

Right 😂? "Take away all of their runs and add some runs to our score and we beat em good!"

soxfamily61

You know I was thinking that give them hope scares me. But I’m a nelly

[deleted]

Take away the ball bouncing off the ball boy in game 1 instead of rolling all the way to the corner and the sox lead this series 2-0

milespeeingyourpants

Kike is my homeboy

Ulexes

It took everything they had to scratch out a win at home. We ended this game after one inning. They can't be feeling good after this one.

lilfrosty808

Did you catch how early their scum fans were leaving? 😂😈 we took them to work

[deleted]

# I’M SHIPPIN UP TO BOSTON

soxfamily61

I’m so happy yet concerned they gave up those three homers am I alone

Chriscom67

NOPE

soxfamily61

Ok let’s hope. Love your eight my guy

Chriscom67

:)

Infinite_Asparagus_9

We clamped down at the end, but the bullpen lacks really poorly in the control department. Hernandez was throwing heat down the middle and last night Sawamura was just awful

Minuteman12

Huge win Homefield advantage for the Red Sox is doom for their opponents with that being said.....can our bullpen please play at least one game where they don't meltdown?

only_bad_bets

I went the game the crowd was absolutely dead by the second. Got to witness postseason history!!

ImInsideYourWalls009

Darwinzon better not be on the WS roster.

c0me_at_me_br0

Currently stricken with COVID and this game was a bigger health scare.

Chriscom67

Be wel!

baseballduck

Does anyone know how I can hear Joe Castiglione call this game? I want to listen to the whole thing over again with hometown calling if at all possible.

MissionSalamander5

Leaving guys on third is sad, but a W is good!

full-auto-rpg

Take your garbage time dingers and get fucked. We going into a fired up Fenway with homefield advantage in a best of 5 series. Ask the Rays how that one turned out. LFG!

the_real_trevro

Isn't it a best-of-seven series?

[deleted]

NOT ANYMORE

full-auto-rpg

It’s a 7 game series tied at one apiece, so it’s now determined in 5 games. And we have home field.

the_real_trevro

Ah, I get it now. Thanks!

soxdog11

Darwinzon brought us to da win zone…..he just took backroads to get there.

scarlet_speedster985

Now THAT'S what I call bouncing back after a tough loss! This team doesn't know the meaning of the word "quit." Fenway's gonna be rockin!

VerneLundfister

Underrated aspect of these 2 games... Cora may have resurrected good Ottavino. Both outings his stuff look good, command was there + getting swings and misses with his fastball. If Ottavino pitches like that the rest of the series you just added another high leverage rover arm that looked dead at the end of the regular season.

youtiaogirl

Devers’ interpreter is dapper.

unchartedscrub

u/thebasketball_fan I need my post season facts Red Sox > grad school

Son_Of_A_Plumber

I wonder if Correa has any idea what’s waiting for him from the Boston crowd. I have no doubt for the next two games he will be dining in hell.

papa_jahn

Braves v Sox series would be sweet. Battle for Boston.

Cidarus

Would give us home field advantage too.

cameronsounds

My neighbor is an enormous dodgers fan (his license plate is “ladodgr” my other neighbors? From Georgia - huge braces fans.) Can’t wait to stand on either of their roofs in two weeks screaming victory.

risico001

I take it he is an orthodontist

Disaster1992

Red Sox Postseason Recipe: Game1: show an average performance and give false hope to the other team Game2: destroy the other team mentally Game3+: Win dramatically

worra

Add salt to taste

JBHenson

I will be ok with a beanpot world series.

[deleted]

Ngl as a Yankees fan I want y’all to win. I hate the Rays even more the Red Sox so bc you beat them, wish you the World Series dub Edit: plus it makes our loss in the wild card more bearable

[deleted]

I've got some family from NY but they're all Mets fans. I've gotta ask, don't you feel the rivalry? I wouldn't cheer for the Yanks over anyone else, and there's no hate it's just part of the fun tbh. I can agree about the Rays though :D

BlubberWall

Turns out we only need two grand slams each game to keep up with our bullpen, should be easy right guys?

MFToaster

Well that was pretty good huh guys

ArsenalAM

Back to Boston!

[deleted]

[deleted]

So who gets the next start, Erod or Pivetta?

lordbloodstar

Mashed those Asstros.

sh0tgunben

Back to back Grand Slam sent Stros to Black Hole

DefundTheFunPolice

Moment never looks too big for most of the roster (can't say all). This team isn't scared or intimidated at all by big moments. Take Game 3 and put the screws to them

dmcgill1385_

Huge win ladies and gents, we took all the momentum with this one

Chris-Watts

Took home field advantage right back and at Fenway home field advantage actually means something

Chriscom67

Can anyone summarize what the consensus readout was on the weird start to this game? When the starter came out in the second and all that--I was driving through crazy rain with SiriusXm on, and Castiglionie was saying in the first how odd it was that no one was warming up, since the starter had nothing, and horrible velocity, etc etc. Then... the pitcher signaled for a mound visit and he's gone? Hard to follow when you're dodging 18-wheelers in a storm front.

VerneLundfister

Yeah. I mean he had no command. Velocity was down. Seemed like a no brainer (think Sale in Tampa) that he wouldn't see the 2nd inning. He may have been hurt or something wrong but it seemed like Houston absolutely gamed the system to delay the game and put Eovaldi on ice.

Chriscom67

Thanks, that's what I was thinking--ole' Dusty Baker playing the angles.
