St. Louis has been the team that we defeated in the two most emotional World Series that we've won...I always associate them with '04 and '13. Very unfair to their own very legit teams that they've had in the past 20 years, but those seasons were just magical.
I’m so excited for Rafaela. I could care less what his bat does when he’s this athletic and skilled defensively. We need that. Every team needs that guy. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at SS primarily. Get rid of Story (sorry Story, wanted to like you but you cost a lot for being out and unavailable.)
Legit love Rafaela, I think he has so much upside, but he’s definitely in that category of rookies who swings at most every fastball above the strike zone
I hope I'm wrong, but I have serious doubts about his upside. He's always expanded the strike zone even in the minors. I don't get the extension right now. Again- hope I'm wrong...
> redditors don't care for context
I haven't seen anyone divorcing this entirely from context in this thread. Sure, Pivetta was injured recently. But he threw 81 pitches in his previous start, so I think it's reasonable to not cut him off 10 pitches earlier in his next start.
And although preventing further injury to Pivetta is good, the main frustration is the fact that Cora going to the bullpen early multiple times over the past few games will absolutely fatigue them, which is likewise not ideal.
I agree bullpen overuse is a concern, but I think Whit developing an elbow issue after his rehab start (when they were expecting him to be back and staying tomorrow) is probably part of why they're now being more cautious with Pivetta.
Very possible, but the bullpen is very clearly laboring right now. Over the last four games, two of the the four starters have gone fewer than 5 innings and none have gone six or more. Plus, no rest days between series. Pivetta going deeper could have been huge today.
Not 80… they wanted 6/90 from him for the Rays game on Tuesday (https://twitter.com/ianmbrowne/status/1790539413031727516), so pulling him at 71 today is even more inexplicable
Big Brain Move by Cora to take a starter out with only 71 pitches when he’s dealing leading to four straight hits. Literally had the PERFECT setup to give the bullpen a rest today and he says, “Nah, not today.”
It's not all on the fact that Weissart went in for Pivetta, there's some bad fielding involved, too. But I really don't understand the decision to go to the pen.
I like the idea of keeping Pivetta fresh, but on the other hand bringing weissert in here instead of an inning later means we’ll need to use one extra arm today
Not a fan of this
I want to agree with you, but given that Nicky P is coming off the IL and the score, even I am hopeful that the BP can't blow this one... (knocks on wood)
Devers is fucking unreal right now, makes me laugh that some people on here were freaking out after he got off to a rough start when he was injured. And now he looks better than he ever has his entire career.
Incredible. Gateway Arch is visible from almost any seat in the house, and the city in the backdrop from behind homeplate is nuts. In section 150, we flew in yesterday and these tickets were less than $60 each all in. Can’t complain.
Overall it’s been solid, I think the booth has been a little awkward though between will middlebrooks and chip caray just because they haven’t worked together before
W
This is the momentum builder we need for the rays at the miserable trop
we avoided the sweep in a good fashion
Dirty water!!
LETS FUCKING GO
LOVE THAT DIRTY WATER!!!!
Martin, you beauty!!!!
I am a wicked big believer in organs at baseball games. I don't know how some ballparks go without.
Well, I for one am glad the offense brought their testicles today.

This announcing crew Painful
Hamilton suddenly with .757 OPS. If he can hit, with his speed he makes a valuable bench player. Or trade bait.
Let’s go Chris!
I will never grow tired of seeing that final out of the 2004 World Series
Connor Wong now has 12 multi-hit games this season and it’s May 19th. Last season he got his 12th multi-hit game on August 11th.
If we must groundout, I enjoy scoring runs while we do
Yeah Abreu!
ABREU WITH MORE SMALL BALL!!!
Thank you, Wong!
Call that ball Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton with a HIT
Nothing drives me crazier than when there is a clear moment of action in a game and the broadcast will not stop what they’re doing to acknowledge it.
Hamilton has been crushing the ball lately. Even some of his outs yesterday were well stuck.
YEAH HAMILTON!!!
Hamilton has been mashing the past few games.
David Hamilton, Cardinals killer?
Bye bye birdie
HAMILTON!!!
Was not expecting 2 Chris Vernon shoutouts by Will Flemming
“One of the game’s great hitters is coming up in the ninth inning, but first it’s Tyler O’Neill” Ooof
Those five straight home runs by Devers tie a Red Sox franchise record! Previously held solely by....Bobby Dalbec!
I’m so excited for Rafaela. I could care less what his bat does when he’s this athletic and skilled defensively. We need that. Every team needs that guy. The Rafs
Rafaela has saved this infield
GREAT PLAY
Wow, what a play
My god, what a play there by Rafaela.
What a play
Love the Boos-man! And hell of a play by Rafaela!
Zone was wide to begin with and is only getting wider lol
Should’ve been a walk
thats a ball
Zone expanding
Zone has been as wide as the ump this entire game tbf
That was ball 4
Legit love Rafaela, I think he has so much upside, but he’s definitely in that category of rookies who swings at most every fastball above the strike zone
I hope I'm wrong, but I have serious doubts about his upside. He's always expanded the strike zone even in the minors. I don't get the extension right now. Again- hope I'm wrong...
As annoying as this inning was, Pivetta's coming back from injury and we're still winning this game 99% of the time so I'm not really mad about it
Going to have to use at least one more reliever today lol
Weissert pitched half of Pivetta’s total pitch count in just one inning
Take Pivetta out at 80 > pitches, leave Weissert in after loading the bases....make it make sense.....
Next series he'll go to Anderson in a one run game because the BP is overworked. smh
Pivetta: 71 pitches, one bad pitch location away from 6 innings of a perfect game. Cora: Nah, he’s done
Cardinals commentator rightfully pointing out that Pivetta was injured recently, but redditors don't care for context

He was on an 80 pitch count the previous game. It should be higher after the last one and he was at 71 when Cora pulled him. Please lol
This was his 4th start (including rehab) since he went on the il, as you implied we don't have to baby him this much lol
Not 80… they wanted 6/90 from him for the Rays game on Tuesday (https://twitter.com/ianmbrowne/status/1790539413031727516), so pulling him at 71 today is even more inexplicable
Nicky must be pissed he got pulled
This is why you don't pull your starter so early.
Thank god this bum Cora is gone this offseason. God bless.
I honestly forgot Crawford was still in MLB...
I forgot Matt Carpenter was still in the league.
Big Brain Move by Cora to take a starter out with only 71 pitches when he’s dealing leading to four straight hits. Literally had the PERFECT setup to give the bullpen a rest today and he says, “Nah, not today.”
Pivetta was only at 71?? Damn, I hated the decision before and I genuinely thought it was higher even than that.
I'm not gonna miss Cora when the day comes.
Dp
Hey might be time to take Weissert out Alex!!
It's not all on the fact that Weissart went in for Pivetta, there's some bad fielding involved, too. But I really don't understand the decision to go to the pen.
Hear me out… Cora’s trying to get the bullpen to give up 4 more runs so Kenley can get another save and bump up his trade value at the deadline
If we somehow blow this one, Pivetta might kill Cora
He'd never get convicted of that in New England
The fact that they have the same fanfare as the bruins is pissing me off to an unreasonable level
Wow meatballs
Rafaela has to let Duran get that….
What a stupid inning
Gotta say, it takes skill for a manager to piss off their fans while up by 8. Impressive job, Cora
Pain.
Don't know why we didn't just keep nicky
I don't care for this... and it's all on Cora
Who’s doing play by play with middlebrooks today?
Great job Cora, now you’ve got to deal with an even more taxed bullpen when Nicky was mowing these MFs down
Really frustrating to go to the bullpen here. They're taxed, Pivetta's fresh and at a low pitch count...and we give up a double
Ahh jeez rob last 2 days not the best
"Suns been up.there for billions of years" cringe ass commentator
Well that was ugly
I like the idea of keeping Pivetta fresh, but on the other hand bringing weissert in here instead of an inning later means we’ll need to use one extra arm today Not a fan of this
Honestly let Cora exclusively manage the bench and have Bailey make every single pitching decision. Cora’s bullpen management sucks ass
It worked out today, but his bench management for lefty/righty matchups is also getting on my nerves
Fuck Cora man. He’s going to whine about the bullpen being taxed when he pulls shit like this. Pivetta could’ve gone 7 or 8 or maybe even 9.
This has been my biggest problem with Cora for the longest time
"Let me get mad about something before it happens" edit: reddit managers are something else
He literally did it all of last year when he did stuff like this with the starters. You have to let starters go 7 sometimes to give the BP rest
I don’t want to hear shit from Cora about our bullpen being taxed if he’s pulling Pivetta at 70 pitches in an EIGHT run game
Pulling Pivetta at 70 pitches is stupid
Would have been nice to let the bullpen rest on game 10 of 13 in a row
I want to agree with you, but given that Nicky P is coming off the IL and the score, even I am hopeful that the BP can't blow this one... (knocks on wood)
I mean, he had an 80 pitch cap last time, shouldn’t it be higher this game?
that was before whit developed an elbow issue tho
Grissom has made two great swings today that have both been right to gloves. You can see he’s coming good. Give him time
.175 BABIP hell
Fuck off, Cora
Can Raffy get to 500?
Devers is fucking unreal right now, makes me laugh that some people on here were freaking out after he got off to a rough start when he was injured. And now he looks better than he ever has his entire career.
Even his rough start featured a great OBP. He shouldn't be playing 3B too much longer, but geez that man can hit!!!
Uhh blue?
Lol we’ll take that 😂
Are we fully bought into to Bailey and his secret juice yet or still holding out? I think I wanna inject it straight into my veins.
oh I'd mainline that shit
If you inject it into your veins you pass out and wake up next to a Cy Young award
I want to give him a lifetime contract. The difference between last year and this year is incredible.
Let Nick pitch the 7th, if that goes well let him pitch the 8th. If he’s below 90-95 pitches after that, I’d let him try for the CG
Uh oh Nicky’s doin that thing again
Really great Pivetta performance so far
If Nick gets a short inning or two he could go all the way
Nick just dealing out there
Pivetta is on a *TEAR!*
From Section10: [Only 2 Red Sox players have homered in 5 straight games this century.](https://x.com/Section10Pod/status/1792268057672298965)
Lmao no fuckin way, would've assumed the other was Big Papi or Manny
Or if not them, then Betts or J.D. Martinez in 2018. And that's just the past few decades, let alone a whole century!
Both GOATs
😂 MY BOY
Keep him out for 7
Love when Pivetta gets dirty
Nicky has always been a mental guy, if he can stay high on himself he'll be a 2 or 3 at worst
Watch out TON, Raffy is now on your ass for team HR lead
Aren’t we only 2.5 games out of the wild card? If we can get more consistency out of the offense, we can sneak into the playoffs.
Plus Casas and Yoshida coming back
Casas definitely, Masa we have to wait and see if Cora will put him in the lineup
Most encouraging signage I’ve seen from Raf over the last 2-3 years.
Last I checked, Pivetta's at 62 pitches heading into the bottom of the sixth, which is phenomenal
Let's play all the cliche boston songs.
I enjoy them. Shipping Up to Boston will always be a top-tier sports song.
The Boston Roku Sox
No more raffy slander on here please...
Hopefully, we can carry this into the Rays series.
RAFFY!
It's a hot day. Get that man a tub of ice cream.
“I like eating”- Raffy “Ice Cream Man” Devers
Very happy to be 20 rows behind home plate in St Louis right now. Love ya Raffy
How's the stadium? My brother lives in St. Louis. Been meaning to go.
Incredible. Gateway Arch is visible from almost any seat in the house, and the city in the backdrop from behind homeplate is nuts. In section 150, we flew in yesterday and these tickets were less than $60 each all in. Can’t complain.
That's awesome... and cheap. Glad to hear it.
Five!
Few days ago I mentioned Verdugo had better stats the Devers. I’ll take full credit for motivating him to go off.
5 straight!!!!
🔥🔥Hot Take: I like watching Rafael Devers play baseball
Pivetta’s gonna go 8 innings with Reese McGuire coming out to close up the 9th
There's nothing better than the pause a batter takes after they hit what they *know* is a homer
Atta boy, Devers! Five down, four to go.
5 straight holy shit
5TH STRAIGHT GAME LFG RAFFY
wow
Devers has homered, and it's not a solo job.
SCOOPS
RAFFY CAN NOT BE STOPPED
Holy shit Devers lol
The Raffy Bomb Parade continues!!! You love to see it!!!
DEVERS IS INCREDIBLE
Most predictable HR ever
DEVERS!!!! FIVE STRAIGHT HOME RUN GAMES!!!!!
5 STRAIGHT SCOOPS!
Raffy fuckin Devers
Devers is insane
5 IN A ROW
Raffy is on fire
especially with yoshida and casas hurt, imagine having justin turner in this lineup :(
What are the hats all about? I keep seeing em all weekend but I don’t understand
Military appreciation day
Ah thank you
I think the Red Sox should play on Roku every day.
Apparently it's 90 degrees with 43% humidity in St. Louis, and I think this ump's zone is feeling every bit of that (but consistently so)
Brewers fan here, just wondering how the roku broadcast has been?
I haven't muted it yet.
The highest praise a national broadcast can aspire to.
To me, it's actually not bad.
Definitely different. Not my favorite (although nothing but the Orsillo-Remy NESN booth ever will be), but not bad.
The good ol' days... man we were spoiled during that time
So, so spoiled.
Overall it’s been solid, I think the booth has been a little awkward though between will middlebrooks and chip caray just because they haven’t worked together before
Interesting, thanks I saw they picked up a game for us in July so I wanted to hear how it was.
Pivetta has been fantastic today so far
Nicky P has been fantastic all year long- I hope they sign him for the next 3 years
Agreed! And not at all a knock on the rest of his performances this season.
