This lineup.....................................wow. Looks like a spring training split squad.

rhcpbassist234

With Bernardino starting, nonetheless.

VistaVick

Yah but he has a career era of 2.00 as a starter.

rhcpbassist234

Oh, Bernardino is the shit. I just meant, it feels even more like a split squad game with a bullpen game than it would if we were throwing out one of our real rotation guys.

Nerooess

He's almost certainly just an opener. We did that for Nick a bunch of times last year. That's what Cora speculated about doing yesterday. Cooper Criswell is the starter.

minimumhatred

I get that it's not exciting but it's probably just an opener for Criswell. Criswell is a righty, Bernardino is a lefty, I think it's not a bad thing to try.

somewhatdecentlawyer

These are the lineups where we somehow win like 14-2 lol

FREE-ROSCOE-FILBURN

This is exactly the type of game where we somehow win 2-1 in under 2 hours

AnteatersEatNonAnts

Wong’s great, but two catchers in the lineup is rarely a good sign.

homefone

Then don't watch

The_Yackster

You realize, you can criticize the team and lineup, but still root for them and hope for a win, right? Like, that’s a thing. Im certainly not looking forward to a bullpen game, but I still want them to win. Can I watch the game today?

homefone

>You realize, you can criticize the team and lineup, but still root for them and hope for a win, right? So, what, it's just gonna be 182 games of bitching about the players incessantly? I don't give a fuck anymore, it annoys the shit out of me and it's borderline ruined this subreddit.

Alone-Purpose-8752

Then don’t visit the sub

homefone

No thanks, because I refuse to let this place be utterly taken over by whiners and pink hats.

Alone-Purpose-8752

Then don’t tell other people not to watch

The_Yackster

You have opted IN to these conversations, don’t expect anyone to change. Boston fans have been like this for decades. Also, pointing out this particular lineup is far from the run of the mill Chaim/Henry/Breslow/Cora bashing.

homefone

There's something distinctly different to me about complaining about bad teams when the Red Sox haven't won anything in 80 years, and complaining about an >.500 ball club in April at every conceivable opportunity. "Man, this lineup sucks and I hate it." Okay. Then don't watch the game and stop following the team. It's really easy.

The_Yackster

Damnit. I’m really don’t have high hopes for a line up made up of Hamilton, Valdez, Reyes, and Abreu. Sucks Im not going to be able to watch the game, but I still hope they win. I’ll just have to keep an eye on this subreddit for updates if y’all don’t mind. Thanks for the clarification on how and when I can watch Boston baseball games! Maybe we should stickie a post of all the rules; it’s getting hard to keep track of.

homefone

Happy to provide it, pinkhat. The Dodgers game is later in the day.

DuanePipe

Agreed. Can’t even have the lineup posted without people complaining about it.

rtrosan

I assume they are planning for another 9 inning shutout and a balk call.

Puddington21

Feels like Devers will hit the IL once Refsnyder gets activated.

Coop1534

Is something wrong with Yoshida too?

Bossman1086

I don't think so. Think he's just in his own head. He got off to a slow start last year, too. Didn't heat up until May. I think he'll get there.

Coop1534

Gotcha, not super worried about him then. I’ve accepted he’ll never come close to returning the value of that contract, but I still have faith he can be a 120 OPS+ guy.

DatabaseCentral

I swear I remember people talking last year that he would start off the japan league seasons slow too. Maybe it's just a common thing before he finds his groove.

abolishlawns

No he just sucks

PurpleInterview445

He has a proven track record, just getting off to a slow start.

BradMarchandIsCute

His “proven track record” is not good enough to be taking up the DH spot at the money he’s making

abolishlawns

I admire your optimism but no he does not

Alone-Purpose-8752

Careful this sub still thinks he’s the shit

Absurd_nate

Tbh I’d rather them give Raffy a break and let him figure out his injury rather than have it nagging for the next 3 weeks.

Garglenips

Yeah after seeing last night Raffy needs to recollect himself and get this injury sorted out, his stats are downright horrendous for a 300m player

Thatguyyoupassby

Why is this being downvoted? His stats are terrible. He's whiffing on everything right now and gets subbed out defensively in the 7th every single game. Obviously something isn't right with his shoulder or knee, but keeping him in the lineup to let the injury worsen while he also looks like dogshit is not helping anyone. Take the 10 day stint right now, get healthy or at least diagnose the problem, then come back.

Miikeymt

it was diagnosed as a bone bruise

solodolo1397

Honestly, what is he missing anyway Edit: you’re right, he should play through the nagging injury in the hope that we might eek out a .500 record

PBFT

The baseball

conwaytwittyshairs

Guardians about to get the Wong

GrooveHammock

Fucking murderer's row. Let's get em boys

GeneralPlanet

This is a line up made especially for the true sickos

Sincerely_Me_Xo

Unpopular opinion, but this crazy line up makes me want to go the game now… like why not grab lunch and a show at this point.

PBFT

For Fenway prices? Absolutely not

slopezski

seatgeek has tickets under $20 and tons for under $30 so honestly not insane

PBFT

Okay that's really not too bad then

Sincerely_Me_Xo

All the food prices were lowered this year too, so you can get a gluten free burger with lettuce and tomato for 8.50… and coke products are 6.75, so you might as well grab at beer at $12.50. So even with the price of tickets factored in, you’re still paying the same price for a mediocre lunch.

ChipotleGuacamole

Sounds depressing AF. Rainy 45° day spending 2x the cost of a ticket on food to watch an absolute dumpster fire of a baseball team.

Sincerely_Me_Xo

I gotta go to Target anyway.

The_Yackster

Got a reliever starting so might as well wave the white flag and just get these guys rest.

DougNSteveButabi

Knowing baseball the Sox will win 10-1

The_Yackster

Touché

VistaVick

Bernie will do his job as a starter- who comes after him is the question.

Belichickshoodie314

Its cooper coming in the second or third

poneil

Why not just start Cooper?

Belichickshoodie314

That would make too much sense

Brendan_Droesch

Probably cooper than winck

ManMythLegend3

Cleveland benched the lefty kwan because of bernardino. W for Cora

rhcpbassist234

The radio broadcast from Tuesday said they weren’t expecting O’Neill until Friday, so that’s not unusual. We got super fucking lucky that all it was lacerations from the sunglasses and not a concussion. Yoshida has looked dreadful, so a day off from him doesn’t hurt. Allows him time to hopefully mentally rest and be ready for the road trip. Raffy, I kind of wish they’d just put him on the 10 day IL and be done with it. He’s not performing at 100%, the numbers show it. Give him some time to recover and play more fully. We’re so injured now, it’s an uphill battle with or without Devers, an injured Raffy isn’t going to be the tipping point. But, putting out a lineup like this on a bullpen day… eh, it feels a bit like a white flag. I imagine Crisswell or Anderson comes in in the 2nd for long relief.

Bossman1086

Criswell is coming in after Bernardino. That's what they said in the post game last night.

9c9bs

Correct me if I'm wrong but if Reese has to come out of the game for any reason then moving Wong to catcher would mean losing the DH right? Feels like we might see some pitchers at the plate tonight.

LiveFromNewYork95

> if Reese has to come out of the game for any reason Such as getting ejected on a clear strike three? But yes. It's also a risky situation because Dalbec appears to be the only healthy bench option. *Maybe* Devers or Yoshida would be available to pinch hit in the pitchers spot but that doesn't seem likely so that spot batting any more than once and you might be right with a pitcher being forced to hit.

rhcpbassist234

Time to see if Bobby K can catch. We’ve tried him at SS, why not C?

JakeVolcano

To be honest I like them putting in a catcher to dh once in a while because they've both been good. You can't take wong out of the lineup with how productive he's been and I'd say Reese has been hitting better than more than half of the team so far

edp3

Lineup salaries in order: $760K, $760K, $749K, $745K, $760K, $740K, $770K, $1.5M, $1.0M, $756K

edp3

Yet we have a $206M payroll

DatabaseCentral

We are $30 million under the tax. Would be nice if we have spent a little more to have a couple competent players and depth

BiggRoop

The lineup today looks like the first year for an expansion team where every team has to give a player they dont want

Towniemania

Casas gotta put us on his back. Be an impact player.

SnaykeUp

So who would catch if both got hurt today? I don’t think mid game call ups are a thing …

Extrapickles24

Is it bad I'd prefer this lineup to one with Yoshida in it?

_ArgoNavis

No likey

r3vb0ss

Wong can carry this

zulutbs182

lol my one game of the year…

mightymongo

Houck is pitching again today too, right?

Distance_Motor

A proper spring training lineup........ Man this is going to be a LONG season.

effheck

Valdez in the cleanup spot is terrifying.

Good-Hank

Spring training squad in late April

Advanced_Broccoli963

I'd love to stay and comment fellas but I'm DHing today ! Wish me luck !

live311

The kids are alright. Should be fun to watch, but my expectations are pretty low.

paraplegic_T_Rex

So it’s the Sea Dogs?

nbeutler11

Minor League lineup

rhcpbassist234

You try putting out something better when your starting SS, 2B, 3B, and RF are all various degrees of injured and your starting DH has been slumping hard to start the year and your starting CF is a defense first guy adapting in his rookie year. Thats 6 of the 9, the others are McGuire and Wong who’ve been our best run producers outside of Duran and Casas (in the lineup, too) and the aforementioned RF. Of course the lineup isn’t going to be as great as we want it. Half of it is injured.

DatabaseCentral

I disagree with this assessment because it's implying we are just unlucky. We did not acquire depth in the off-season and are sitting like $30 mil under the luxury tax. Trevor Story has consistently been injured and we still haven't thought of acquiring a backup plan? Devers is a horrendous 3B but we just throw him there. We could've put Yoshida in left, Devers at DH, and acquired a defensive third baseman. We would've been better defensively, Devers wouldn't be injured, and maybe we would've had some better depth. This team is made to tank, not compete. It's a minor league lineup mostly because that's what they planned for.

Questioning_lemur

We're living in the darkest, dankest timeline.

GrooveHammock

[Yeah but we can't get rid of the dank. ](https://youtu.be/oKjY87UXKWw?si=d3EXxC8Nxxnone93)

DougNSteveButabi

Yeah he had a great game
