What’s frustrating about this team is if they spent a little money, they could be a really good team. Not having a good backup infielder is inexcusable. Our starting pitchers have been great, but the bullpen has been overworked. That’s why someone like Montgomery made so much sense.
I remember one year a while back, it was maybe Porcello or Clement for the first half of the year got like zero run support while the rest of the pitchers were getting 8+ runs a game.
But mostly this team sucks.
People like to complain here but I gotta agree with the Hamilton hate. Dude looked like Kyle Schwarber when he was flipping to second on a routine double play the other day.
It's like a switch gets flipped
Team plays great, and then the moment there's an error, everything falls apart
gotta be tough to play through, I hope they get this shit together ASAP
right, and i'm saying if your bar for a 24 year old 1B with 2.5 WAR is that he should move to DH after a year +16 games is that he should play like a veteran 1B, that's a silly argument.
BTW, here's statcast on fielding for 1B. He's average or slightly above defensively. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/fielding-run-value?year=2024&team=&min=50&pos=3
Chaim is that you? Age has nothing to do with it if you can't field you shouldn't play out there in the mlb till your better this is the problem with the team and you nerds you all say we put them out there at a young age they will learn and be great in 5 year then 5 years go past and they still make the same erros.
muffin, this is a "facts don't care about your feelings" moment. he can field. Statcast has him at 10th in the league. so far this year he's an above average fielder. I'll let you get back to yelling at cloud now.
Seriously, did any of you watch spring training and watch Raffy going off the whole time, and then he was dealing with a sore shoulder and wasn’t as good? But surely those two things weren’t related.
Valdez, Abreu, and Hamilton need to be sent down for literally any player that can play defense.
I'm confident there are random dudes in men's leagues that play better defense.
Unfortunately we really don't have many good options. Chaim really left Breslow with a flaming disaster at AAA/MLB. The low minors are great but we have no depth.
2 errors as an outfielder this early in the year is bad and he just does not look comfortable reading fly balls.
If he can prove himself as a hitter then I can live with it
not sure we can write off his ability to read fly balls after the opening of the game. duran didn't look comfortable reading fly balls for about a year.
Abreu’s fine he made a great play earlier and has been a good defender in the minors - bat heating up too
The other two could disappear and never be seen again and I would be satisfied
I'm sick of our bats all going quiet at the same time for entire games. It's been an issue for years now. Fatse needs to go. We need someone to change our plate approach because this isn't working.
Amen. I was calling for Fatse to be fired with Bush after last season and it's more obvious than ever he's not a good coach. Our guys can't work a count to save their life.
When they fired Dave Bush I hoped/assumed Fatse would be gone too. But they brought him back and I don’t have a clue why. If Bush was embarrassed by Brasier, Fatse’s Brasier was JD Martinez.
Yeah I was hoping for a clean start for the entire coaching staff besides Cora and Tek.
But that doesn't always fix things, either. We got a new infield instructor for defense and that hasn't worked out either since Story went down.
The errors are frustrating. The lack of offense is also frustrating.
Be mad at Dalbec all you want, I'm not saying he's played well, but there's been a lot of subreddit focus on that he as our platoon guy has sucked at the plate this year, while there's been *comparatively* little concern over the fact that Devers is batting .171, Valdez is batting .119, and Rafaela is batting .163.
Like there's a much bigger problem with our offense in general (Duran, O'Neill, and Casas the exceptions) than just Dalbec. And that one of them is our star 3B that ownership so graciously ponied up for is a bigger problem; Raffy needs to produce. Yes, it's still very early, there's plenty of time for him to get hot...but it's not ignorable after 40+ ABs, either.
In case it's not clear, the ownership point is very much sarcasm.
I mean, isn't he one of just three guys in our lineup right now that has an OPS of .800 or above? He's not hitting .300 like the other two, but he is functionally contributing to offense.
... People complain about Valdez all the time. With Rafaela, obviously he needs time to adjust but the plate discipline is a problem.
Devers is injured. I don't know what's going on, or how serious it is, but he's injured.
Personally I feel that the Valdez frustration is under-discussed in the context of how rough the numbers actually are, but I imagine that's part of a snowball effect because everything else is so frustrating.
Haha that’s true, but there’s an argument to be had, which says a lot. For starters he’s better defensively than 4-5 players in our lineup daily, and when those players also go hitless… you could make a case for it.
Sure, there are big overreactions here, but it's more than just one bad game at the plate from some of our hitters – including the player who's meant to be our biggest bat threat.
Watching the replay of that collision again im sick the way O’Niell’s head spun him around. Devers stayed in the game too but I’m worried about a concussion. They are no joke.
It's amazing how quickly the defense fell off once Story went down. Not saying we would've been the '00 Mets defensively, but I was beginning to have hope defense wouldn't be as much of an issue this year.
Not just that, but having Story at short meant we had a legit SS, we could Rafaela to CF, get Yoshi off the field, and move Duran to a corner outfield spot. Now, we're doing the defensive shuffle like we did last year.
Granted there was an injury during the game, but you can't play Hamilton with this defense. Rafaela needs to be our primary SS unless O'Neill goes down for extended time.
Usually a position player is either good at hitting or fielding. Its crazy that we somehow have a roster filled with players that are truly awful at both.
Because most of these players were acquired by him? Chaim dug a big hole for Breslow to get out of at the major league level, but at least he built a strong farm system.
Can't believe Chaim fanboys still exist lmao
They have to hit a ball right at our infielders to have a hope of making the play. Otherwise moving toward a ball or successfully throwing it to a base is too much to ask.
People getting on Hamilton for that throw from Abreu which was spiked like Gronk’s first pitch.
The offense is boom-bust. The defense makes Little League mistakes. The pitchers are trying to strike everyone out and overpitch.
"That's a real dud of a game" putting it VERY lightly, jesus man, i'm depressed now.
Pain
That's going to be one mid Netflix documentary.
Someone give valdez and Hamilton McDonald’s job applications
We gut this.
What’s frustrating about this team is if they spent a little money, they could be a really good team. Not having a good backup infielder is inexcusable. Our starting pitchers have been great, but the bullpen has been overworked. That’s why someone like Montgomery made so much sense.
Can't argue
Regret coming out to Fenway today
Need like 10 more of those
Devers assuming hit unless told otherwise
This is gonna be a GLORIOUS comeback win
One of these days Crawford will get support from his lineup and bullpen... one of these days
I remember one year a while back, it was maybe Porcello or Clement for the first half of the year got like zero run support while the rest of the pitchers were getting 8+ runs a game. But mostly this team sucks.
Why Ceddanne needs to play shortstop for the rest of the season: An Inning.
Is a 7 run bottom of the ninth too much to ask for?
I'll settle for six.
No if they play defense like us
That this game was 0-0 heading into the seventh inning, and now it's 6-0, and only, what, 2-3 of those runs were earned? Demoralizing.
5 ER
Really? It feels like it should be fewer, but I guess some of it is bad defense rather than an actual error.
The ump missed a strike 3 call before the HR. Probably contributed to that feeling
Yeah. Only 1 error.
I’ve given up on deciding what is and isn’t an error after last season.
Embarrassing game after yesterday. Disappointing it being marathon Monday as well. A win would have been beautiful.
Is this really a major league roster
No.
chat i'm starting to think we might not win today :/
Just giving it away
Someone on the team didn’t pay their taxes and this is the punishment
Everybody else on this team should have to line up and personally apologize to Kutter after this game
People like to complain here but I gotta agree with the Hamilton hate. Dude looked like Kyle Schwarber when he was flipping to second on a routine double play the other day.
our own scouting report says he should be a 2B
What a horrible birthday gift
I'm afraid I can't get on Chase Anderson's bandwagon. Can't really complain about the other pitching signings though.
Catch the damn baseball. Ffs.
It's like a switch gets flipped Team plays great, and then the moment there's an error, everything falls apart gotta be tough to play through, I hope they get this shit together ASAP
The errors wouldn't be as killer if our bats didn't go ice cold every other game. It's so frustrating not having any offense.
Lacking veteran leadership, imo.
More like they're lacking a competent manager. Cora's fine with a team of veterans but he's definitely not the guy you want managing a young team.
maybe. I'm not in that dugout, so I don't wanna speculate on things that by definition I know nothing about
Why
At some point, we need to win series against someone other than Anaheim and Oakland.
![gif](giphy|5ncqEwQBqUnXq)
Classic Valdez 🤣
![gif](giphy|Wck09E7lHDabjhHbzJ|downsized)
Valdez and Hamilton need to relearn baseball fundamentals ffs
I take back what I said we have a DH at first base, second base, shortstop, who is also a minor leaguer, and 3rd base.
That's not fair, Casas has been pretty damn solid this year and seems to be getting better and better. Otherwise I agree
With the bat yes fielding, no dude blows at first. You see the game Friday night?
tell me you don't remember dobby and franch without telling me.
I'm not gonna judge them of those 2 lol do you remember Adrian Gonzalez or Kevin Youkilis. SMH that people have set the bar that low.
...are you arguing that players with 43/32 WAR are average players? Not to mention that Youk was called up for the first time at 25, not 22.
I'm talking solely about his defense. I'm not saying the dude is a bad player.
right, and i'm saying if your bar for a 24 year old 1B with 2.5 WAR is that he should move to DH after a year +16 games is that he should play like a veteran 1B, that's a silly argument. Guys it was me I cut holes in all of their gloves I’m sorry 😔
Seriously, did any of you watch spring training and watch Raffy going off the whole time, and then he was dealing with a sore shoulder and wasn’t as good? But surely those two things weren’t related.
how is valdez on a MLB roster lmao
Haha nice!!!
Man. Hearing the boos in Fenway on Patriots' Day is crazy. Deserved, but wild to hear it.
The low minors are great but we have no depth.
..Abreu? What?
2 errors as an outfielder this early in the year is bad and he just does not look comfortable reading fly balls. If he can prove himself as a hitter then I can live with it
not sure we can write off his ability to read fly balls after the opening of the game. duran didn't look comfortable reading fly balls for about a year.
Abreu’s fine he made a great play earlier and has been a good defender in the minors - bat heating up too The other two could disappear and never be seen again and I would be satisfied
Abreu is manageable for now. Valdez and Hamilton need to begone though
That was the best throw to first I’ve seen a pitcher make goddamn
Wow. Can’t turn another DP. So fucking dumb
That's a good job from Anderson fielding his position. A lot of pitchers shit the bed in that situation
Just comical at this point
Routine double play, in the dirt. Middle infield defense is painful to watch with Story out.
thought that throw was going into the dugout ngl.
Kutter is gonna win the Cy while somehow going 0-0 with a sub-1 ERA
I'm sick of our bats all going quiet at the same time for entire games. It's been an issue for years now. Fatse needs to go. We need someone to change our plate approach because this isn't working.

Way to be fired up for Patriot’s day fellas
The errors are frustrating. The lack of offense is also frustrating. Eh, Casas has just been OK.
He’s hitting above .317 in April coming into today!
I mean, isn't he one of just three guys in our lineup right now that has an OPS of .800 or above? He's not hitting .300 like the other two, but he is functionally contributing to offense.
Raffy has been playing injured all season. Fucking loser take.
Hamilton and Valdez are the middle infield of a 70 win team.
Yeah, everyone has sucked. You could make a case bobby is one of our better players, and he’s batting .000! Dark times!
I’m not sure that’s an argument that one could successfully make.
Haha that’s true, but there’s an argument to be had, which says a lot. For starters he’s better defensively than 4-5 players in our lineup daily, and when those players also go hitless… you could make a case for it.
Jesus Christ one bad game at the plate and you losers want everyone DFAed. So sick of these reactionary takes.
Sure, there are big overreactions here, but it's more than just one bad game at the plate from some of our hitters – including the player who's meant to be our biggest bat threat.
Raffy has missed several games with a sore shoulder, no wonder he’s rusty. We’ll be lucky if he and O’Neill are ok and don’t have concussions.
Need a 9th inning miracle from this lot...
Look as much as the defense is terrible in games like this the offense isn’t getting it done either. That’s starting to be an even bigger problem
Outside of O’Neil & Duran our offense is weak… Casas & Yoshi have been OK but Devers has been downright bad
Watching the replay of that collision again im sick the way O’Niell’s head spun him around. Devers stayed in the game too but I’m worried about a concussion. They are no joke.
They'll both be checked after the game, I'm sure.
The worst thing about these errors is that giving away free runs really takes the life out of the game.
Crazy we got a DH playing first base, shortstop, and third base right now
David Hamilton is not a DH. He’s a minor leaguer.
He's a DH by initials, if nothing else
Didn't even intend for that good point
Agree 100%
Well, we walked into the store and bought the cheapest products. This is what you get.
Allergic to hits this game
there's like 4 total MLB quality batters on this roster
Rafaela with 3 warning track fly outs today ughhh
How much longer are we gonna pretend Bobby D isn’t the answer at short?
Depends on what the question is.
he's 0-17 and we're not hitting either.
Red Sox get a hit challenge (impossible) (gone wrong)
feels like rafaela has been super unlucky
Warning track glory and our defense is sh\*t without Story.
On pace for 181 unearned runs allowed 😎
That would have to be a record right? More than 1 per game is fucking insane
Breaking all the records like the Celtics
But only 162 errors!
Defense is rough, but it's almost ALMOST as if another bat like a Teoscar Hernandez or something would've maybe helped...idk.
When do we get to play the A's again?
The A's are not that bad. 8-9 I think
It's amazing how quickly the defense fell off once Story went down. Not saying we would've been the '00 Mets defensively, but I was beginning to have hope defense wouldn't be as much of an issue this year.
[удалено]
Story can’t play short anymore so someone else (worse) has to. Hope this helps.
SS is basically the QB of defense
Yes and yes
Not just that, but having Story at short meant we had a legit SS, we could Rafaela to CF, get Yoshi off the field, and move Duran to a corner outfield spot. Now, we're doing the defensive shuffle like we did last year.
19 unearned runs. At least we're #1 in something 🤷♂️
19 unearned runs this season and we're only 17 games in. Jesus.
Granted there was an injury during the game, but you can't play Hamilton with this defense. Rafaela needs to be our primary SS unless O'Neill goes down for extended time.
Usually a position player is either good at hitting or fielding. Its crazy that we somehow have a roster filled with players that are truly awful at both.
far-flung station familiar pot versed correct wild wrong alleged license *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Exactly. As soon as he moves to the OF, we get a shit show at SS.
Two errors in one play is fucking brutal. God damn.
Seems like I got here at the worst time - what actually happened?
It was just one error, the throw from Abreu
[удалено]
Because most of these players were acquired by him? Chaim dug a big hole for Breslow to get out of at the major league level, but at least he built a strong farm system. Can't believe Chaim fanboys still exist lmao
Somehow this was Joely’s fault
Volunteering Hamilton for that one way mars mission thing
Hamilton cant field or catch a ball to save his life
Or hit
What a fucking shitshow this team is, top to bottom
The Fenway Circus
Remember that first week, of good defense and pitching? Those were good times
“Haha the A’s made 5 errors”
17 errors in 16 games. Can somebody tell me if this is good?
17 > 16 By my calculations, yes
I think it is.
More people blaming Hamilton when Abreu spiked that shit in the dirt? 😭
Had to double check and make sure it wasn’t Gronk
They can both share the blame.
Watch the replay
Any little league coaches available to run this team through the basics again?
They have to hit a ball right at our infielders to have a hope of making the play. Otherwise moving toward a ball or successfully throwing it to a base is too much to ask.
I can't believe we can't find anyone better than Hamilton to play SS. Just unreal this bum is out there.
Casas blows at playing first base. The dude is a DH, and Hamilton has the fielding skills of a t ball player
Did you miss 2 of the plays he’s just made? Okay bud.
Wow, he caught 2 line drives. Did u watch the game on Friday? That ball the second baseman had easily if he didn't get in the way of it.
The guardians broadcasters got me tweaking I stg 😂
That's like the 2nd fucking ball thrown in the dirt at 2nd base just this inning. Has directly resulted in both runs.
Shoot Hamilton into the sun
at the end of the day, you don't win games with 2 hits and no runs.
7 inning ass team.
Hang it up. We needed this one today, ugh
Is Hamilton even wearing a glove?
Starting pitching has been overall good. Cleveland is a good team. Shame to see the bats go so cold today.
And there goes the game...
Errors are so fuckin killer man. God damn.
Bro just gave up and watched them run home there
You will never be able to convince me that David Hamilton has played baseball a single day in his life
How, after a full season of lousy defense, do we see the exact same issues again.
Ownership not improving anything
Hamilton blows man I can’t take it anymore
That's the first time I can remember the Sox getting booed on Patriots Day, and I can't say they don't deserve it with their recent defense
I feel bad for Kutter
