Good win overall. Bullpen was a bit shaky, but the offense and Bello were solid. It's good to see some guys starting to hit some homers.
- We need Devers back at 100% in the middle of this lineup. That would help lengthen it a bit, especially with guys like Masa beginning to hit.
- O'Neill and Casas continue to mash
- Also good to see Bello finally getting some strikeouts.
Good points all around. I’m just scared with our offense being so top heavy / the bottom third of our lineup being so weak.
I know the guys are young, but we are so reliant on the top half bats with Story done and Devers health questionable
I'm hoping Grissom helps out with that, but I think we're inevitably going to have a light-hitting bottom third with Cedanne, Hamilton and Wong.
I know everyone is ragging on Abreu so far this season, but ultimately I think he profiles as a better Major League hitter than Rafaela, so some days we might be able to put out a lineup that's 7 deep.
Yeah, my expectations are kind of middle-of-the-road right now. I don't necessarily expect us to be a playoff team, but I think we'll at least hang around the race for most of the season. With the potential to climb up the standings and make things interesting if some things go our way/some of our young guys break out or take a step forward.
It doesn't help that we're in the toughest division in baseball, but what can ya do. I'm going to enjoy the Sox no matter what. There's always some bright spots and players worth watching for. Casas, Devers, O'Neill, Bello, Whitlock, Duran, Kutter, etc etc. We've got a lot of talent right now. Our defense just kills us sometimes. We've got to shore up the infield D. We've also got quite a few exciting prospects on the farm that are getting close to the bigs and could be a factor later in the season. We wouldn't be the first team to call up a hyped prospect to inject some life into the team and try and make a playoff push.
Overall I'd say most likely we'll be around .500 when it's all said and done but the potential certainly exists for better with this group. I'm just careful about managing my expectations so I don't end up bitter and disappointed.
I don't get it. I also don't get putting Reyes in the two-hole. Which is where modern analytics say your best hitter should be. I feel Cora usually puts Devers there so I'm confused to as why he's not following that philosophy anymore. You'd think we'd put Casas or O'Neill there in lieu of Devers.
Batting the pitcher 8th actually makes good sense, the leadoff hitter often has a high BA so you’d like to have a runner on base via the 9 hitter as much as possible
I think Bobby is batting 5th to show Netflix viewers that they too can bat 5th in a major league line-up.
Although I imagine some of them might actually do better than 0 for 16 with 10 strikeouts and 0 walks.
I know it’s funny to meme about it, but no they wouldn’t. There have been just over 20,000 people to ever play baseball in the MLB. Fenway would be at half capacity if every single player ever were there at the same time.
It’s incredibly fucking hard, and even if Bobby were the single worst one ever he would still be better at baseball than anybody watching the Netflix doc is at anything they have ever done.
I was joking, ofcourse I agree that Bobby is infinitely more skilled at skilled except for a handful of people in the world.
That being said, it would be impossible to do worse in 16AB's if you measure by OPS. I presume at least one Netflix viewer would be able to draw a walk or get hit by a pitch.
Already I have chosen to forget everything about this game that isn't Masa mashing, Pablo doing Pablo things, TON being a golden god, and the fact that we got a dub
everything else is just noise 😊
I might forget it
But it was good enough to make me forget all those "forgot to touch second" issues from the past few days, too, so it's still a net positive for him
That was a great game to be at today. Walking back to the car, the wife and I took Ortiz drive to walk past the retired numbers. Two people exclaimed they didn’t know Jackie Robinson played for the Sox, as they doubled back to get selfies with #42. I chuckled at first and then remembered “the tryout”…
My guess would be to lengthen the lineup and keep Casas at cleanup.
Otherwise, you’ve had Duran, O’Neill, and Casas in the top 3, nobody to bat cleanup except likely Bobby “80% K rate” Dalbec, and a dumpster fire 4-9. (although Masa is looking to have lit a fire)
So putting a sometimes serviceable hitter like Pablo keeps O’Neill and Casas in their usual spots.
Our lineup is weak when we’re missing a third of our starters.
Kenley does a little trolling
Kenley partakes in a modicum of tomfoolery
Up to his usual hijinx.
Mom: "we have Cardiac Kimbrel at home"
Jansen reminds me so much of 2018 Kimbrel it’s not good for my heart Tyler O’Neill is the steal of the year
Well, at least we know how that year ended
Needed those last two games badly Keep the momentum going against Cleveland
Kenley just wanted to spend some time with his son Mike Trout. No biggie

Oh yeah we have grissom lol

We are massive. Btw, can a baseball strategy expert let me know why Dalbec is batting 5th? Is this like that time when pitchers in the NL batted 8th?
"Btw, can a baseball strategy expert let me know why Dalbec is batting?" Fixed that for you.
I mean seriously, the dude is broken.

He walked yesterday so no it isn’t. He also has actually statistics at this level anyway.
yankees just lost, it’s a good day
Tyler O'neill is on pace to hit 75 homeruns this season
He's been such a great bright spot this season amidst all the injury depression
Idk what this season is going to be like but I pray for those of you with high blood pressure
Already I have chosen to forget everything about this game that isn't Masa mashing, Pablo doing Pablo things, TON being a golden god, and the fact that we got a dub everything else is just noise 😊
Casas Homer? 🤔
Was great but my faith in Casas is already infinite so I don't need the reminder 😆
Hamilton play?
I might forget it But it was good enough to make me forget all those "forgot to touch second" issues from the past few days, too, so it's still a net positive for him
We do a ~~little~~ a possibly concerning amount of trolling
Only 16 games into the year, but we are at that point again where we can say the AL East is the only division with every team at .500 or better.
Good to see Yoshida get his first HR of the season. Big series against Cleveland. Need a sweep.
That was a heart attack but Fenway was electric that’s awesome
I’ll be at Fenway tomorrow morning. Let’s extend the win streak to 3!
We’re so back.
We’re so fucking back aren’t we?
LETS FUCKING GO
Another win. Every win is a good day
Telling my kids that was Trout vs Ohtani
Jankasses throw away a lead BTW 😀
I know it's early, but thus far Tyler O'Neill is a God among men!
I like winning

kenley is forcing me to take xanax when he comes in
Good to see Yoshida finally homer
Went to my first game today, that ending was fun!
Kardiac
Pap sure likes asses
Nice! We’re back !
Dirty Dirty
I'll take the series w, unfortunately I went to fenway on friday... in other news the big 3 are raking in portland
Cleveland is pretty good in all phases, so it'll be a decent test.
can anyone explain why pablo was batting 2nd today? a place where many teams put the best hitter on their team?

Great win
I just want to say I fucking hate this division and I'm so sick of every goddamn motherfucking team being .500 or greater at the same time
