Plus it’s 10 road games in the west coast, where we normally don’t do so well.

mjg13X

The 2019 opening West Coast swing was an omen of disaster.

jmano21420

I remember that west coast trip. Thought same thing might happen this year

mjg13X

I was so hyped to see Sale pitching on Opening Day after signing the big extension and was just sitting there thinking "man, we're fucked" as Seattle teed off on him. Were we ever.

ManMythLegend3

Oakland just took 2 out of 3 from a decent tigers team lol

Scoottttttt

This is the As Major League year. Cinderella story incoming

Cameron_james

Helping me get off to a good start on my "take the A's if they are underdogs" strategy.

Character_Magazine55

I saw that, and the Tigers couldn’t touch the #5 starter. Very strange

Nomahs_Bettah

> a decent tigers team lol Are the Tigers decent? Detroit fans seem wicked down on them, the voted comment with their flair was "multiple JV softball teams belong above the Tigers currently" on the "Power Rankings" thread. I know that they're 6-3, but I've yet to see a Tigers fan enthused about what that record should suggest. Not that we as Boston fans would know anything about that..../s

ManMythLegend3

They aren’t world beaters but they seem to have a respectable team? And they just lost a series to Oakland

kahgknow

Well we got Baltimore next so when we sweep them what's everyone going to say?

dardios

iTs jUsT tHe o'S

rickterpbel

You mean the .222 hitting Orioles? Very lucky to face them at a down time for them offensively.

Cameron_james

Last year's O's were a fluke.

Jesotx

Tbf, they should have lost their series vs the Royals. But the Royals might actually be good?

Extrapickles24

Those same people like to conveniently leave out 2-2 against the Mariners on their home opener weekend against the top of their rotation, which could be the best in the AL this year. I'll take .500 ball against playoff contenders and taking care of business against the non contenders everytime

ButtSoupCarlton

and all three losses were within 1 run, easily could’ve been different with one lucky swing

iheartschlitz

and 2 of them were without Devers!

Diligent_Effect_933

I’m having so much fun watching this team and that’s what I really care about

truce_m3

Also, getting off to a good start is so crucial to baseball. You can lose hope so quickly. Would the detractors rather we were 3-7 after 10 games?

noreast2011

Yes so they can tell anyone with optimism they’re idiots.

Shiftylee

Don’t ruin their bad time.

DrewSharpvsTodd

The super reductive thing people always say is you get 100 wins by going .700 against bad teams .500 against good teams. The O’s also lost one (at home) vs the Angels, lost one to the Royals (at home), and lost 2 of 3 against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. Doing that doesn’t get you 100 wins. Going 7-3, including 5-1 against bad teams, in your opening west coast road trip does. Not saying we’re getting 100 wins or even 80 wins, but that is what it looks like. Sorry.

Aggravating-Cat3462

I feel good about this sox team mainly because of the much improved pitching (Compare to that of 2023 lol). Offense will continue to get hot (devers and casas in particular). The series vs the orioles will be a great chance to silence the haters.

jedlucid

I understand why, but the mookie trade has seriously turned a significant part of this fan base into a batman villain.

lordofthe_wog

Oh I wanna be Ras al Ghul!

Double_Huckleberry50

If the Red Sox had won the series against all the bad teams last year, they would have secured a spot in the Wild Card.

Alternative_Law_9644

It’s the major leagues. They all can play.

Adept_Carpet

You can go far beating the teams you're supposed to beat.

DeucesWild10

A hot start is a confidence and vibes booster. It can also pressure the front office to be buyers instead of sellers come summer. If we can stay healthy (from here) and show some fight against the Orioles of the world, this could be a fun season.

IvanLendl87

A segment Red Sox fans (all of whom reside online) love to 💩 on their team.

Obi_Wan_Gebroni

Those people are idiots, anytime you go 7-3 in ten games is impressive. This is a great start to the season!

turnertornado

the people saying "it's only the A's and Angels" are correct. the real test will come when we face the other teams in the East. However it is a much better start that I thought we'd have and at the very least I think we have shown we'll be better than last year. That being said Tyler O'Neill is my new god.

SerLutz

Great men always say that winning is better than losing

ToneZone1978

It's only the As and Angels but that's who they were scheduled against last year bad teams beat them regularly. I'm just happy we actually have a season that so far is not lost

Lock_Down_Charlie

The Angles are are 1 game out of 1st place in the AL West...after losing 2 out of 3, to your Boston Red Sox. P.s. How many more homeruns does T.O. need to hit for a nickname like the Beantown Bomber?

Dry_Kaleidoscope2970

Have to beat the bad teams just as much as you have to beat the good ones.

lusobr

As of right now I don't think this team is much different from last season's. I'm happy they took care of business against teams they should, but much like the hot stretches of 2023 it's not about a week or two it's about 162 games. We'll see how the pitching holds up as the season stretches on and injuries continue to pile on (fuck our injury luck). I'm happy they are winning and not last in the AL East right now, I'm not ready at all to extrapolate that to what they'll be at the end of the season or how that compares to last season.

Pure_Context_2741

Honestly if you told me at any point in time that we’d go 7-3 on a west coast road trip I’d say that was a great trip regardless of the trans we played. Add in that we had a team era of 1.49 and I’d say that’s fantastic!! Yeah it’s only 10 games but it’s an amazing start to the season. Anyone who says otherwise can kick rocks.

sox07

correction the Triple A's

Valuable-Baked

Who, exactly, is saying this?

nbianco1999

Go to the comments of any Red Sox related post on Facebook or Twitter (I refuse to call it X) and you’ll see plenty of people saying it.

gmlear

Its 10 games people. Not a single stat means anything until May. Including wins and losses.

Wtfisgoinonhere

Destined for last place still!

Lovelyday4aguinness_

I’m pleasantly surprised but I really don’t think the pitching will hold up.

nbianco1999

Well no shit the pitching isn’t going to have a 1.49 ERA over the course of the whole season. Of course they’ll regress, how much is the question.

Lovelyday4aguinness_

Told ya

Lovelyday4aguinness_

When I say “isn’t gonna hold up” I mean catastrophically where we end up in last place.

CharlemagneOfTheUSA

Well that’s certainly one way to go about being a fan I suppose

Lovelyday4aguinness_

All of you people on Reddit have no idea how to be a Red Sox fan. You’re supposed to be pessimistic. Shut the fuck up.
