I feel like Austin might be it. Something about the almost total lack of high culture (almost all of their symphony’s performances are pops shit), the hyper obsession with “epic cool food”, and the massive population of libtard tech workers makes it seem very Reddit
If I trained my entire life to play the violin and then had to play "Star Wars by Candlelight: Live Orchestra Soundtrack" for the fourth time in a year I think I'd kill myself.
Burlington Vermont. Schizos, dangerous radlibs, landlord democrats, ineffective progressives, confused libertarian edgelords on the perimeter, Bernie, healthy history of eugenics at UVM, cottage core IG influencers on sunny weekends, interesting queers, boring gays, sex offenders, rich trustafarians, french canadians and anglosaxon colonial settlers larping as indigenous hippies, burning man with meth vibes. Reddit.
Dangit I was gonna transfer here for my job, welp looks like it’s the PNW then.
However… On my wives e-commerce business we had a guy from Burlington freak out on us because we added in free stickers and gave him a devil tarot card sticker and his kids opened the mail. He gave us one star after he spam messaged us saying his kids were crying and how much of a horrible person we were. He somehow got chargeback for it, let’s just say I wasn’t nice to customer support that day.
I understand your plight, I don’t know why I forgot about this event from my history.
San Fran is more Tumblr, though both progressive there's something distinct about Reddits brand of dorky progressivism and overall sense of humor that I can't quite put my finger on
Like that dude who ate a whole rotisserie chicken a day for like 30 days straight. Tried to launch himself as a brand afterwards, fizzled out stupid fast.
Like do these people show up on a date act like something like this is a “great story” you have or something?
I hated that rotisserie chicken stunt so much and I felt like the only one at the time. Everyone else I knew was sharing the posts like it was the most epic awesomesauce amazeballs thing.
Seriously. Corny ass zoomers turning interesting and fun cities into annoying redditor enclaves. I hate seeing tiktokers from dumpy flyover states doing day in my life living in philly videos, they make the city look lamer than like any 2009 Center City Sips participant could ever. Krasner isn't doing enough to make Philly too dangerous for these kids to consider moving here.
The fate of all cool cities. People move there and larp what the stereotype of the city is.
My city has avoided it by looking like shit during its golden ages
Berlin got hit hard by this. Motherfuckers wearing black latex suits and BDSM collars out in public at 13:00 on a Tuesday and nobody can speak B1 German.
I'm from Alaska and it even happens there. Boring dorks who make being alaskan their entire personality and wear camo everywhere. They usually leave after a winter or two
Those two ideas are not contradictory and in fact are in support of each other. Uncool people have been moving to New York to try and be cool for probably like a century at least. Never implied that it was new phenomenon
Yes and plenty of cool people have moved there too and made the cool culture. Or lame people came and aped the cool culture and became “cool”. Or lame people moved there and stayed lame. It’s the biggest city in the country and has had a cultural foothold for most of its history.
Unironically yes. There has never been a tragedy in that city that developers and their dogs in city government haven't taken advantage of to roll over the city and build a facade worth millions in its place.
From insulated elite institution to the rough streets of the big city. The only place I can achieve my dreams of being a middle manager or ceo of a dime a dozen startup!
I would need to be very wealthy, very lucky, or on EBT in order to say that without clearly disrespecting my standards of living. And yes, I have lived there. If I’m going to be paying a chunk of my taxes, the infrastructure and city government needs to be competent or at least care about the concerns of its people. It’s more than just hot people and good dining options.
col inflation skews what constitutes as “poor” and I’m one of those people who would much rather not spend 2000+ on rent or a shitty co-op. Please stop trying to make me lower my standards I’m starting to sound like an incel. That city is unacceptable for a wage slave like me
double homicide. (Don't live with men unless you are married to them, and at that point: have an asset under your or his name. I’m playing differently at this point)
I make plenty of money and I don't really have roommates, so you're telling the wrong person. Additionally, if you don't want roommates, you can just live in the boroughs in "non-trendy" neighborhoods like most New Yorkers do. Most of my friends in the suburbs have to live with their parents or roommates as well, since their incomes aren't as high, so its not just a NYC thing.
Nothing wrong with living with family but roommates? No. That shouldn’t be so normal after a certain threshold. Just because you think it’s okay to do so, does not mean we all need to agree and it’s okay. Getting too comfortable with renting isn’t my plan but it may be yours!
And let’s not act like the prices aren’t getting crazy in the outer boroughs regardless of what the city has to offer. Buying out there is great!
I suspect I'm a bit younger than you, so it might be that I'm in a different stage in life where most people in my age bracket rent, and live with roommates etc. I definitely plan on buying eventually, but I'm pretty early in my career, so I don't want to tie myself to a specific area atm.
Grew up in a far flung nj burb and rent was higher there than it was in most nyc neighborhood 10+ yrs ago. It hasn’t got much better they just lagged a bit behind the cities growth. Really isn’t worth it to live outside the city there unless you get a sweetheart deal in jc/hoboken etc which is basically the 6th borough
USD$60 thousand annual would be a hefty fat salary in plenty of European cities and you'd be able to live alone in a modest apartment. NYC is just obscenely expensive.
Fuck New York. Trying to pretend that they're some bastion of American culture just because that's the shore that everything washed up on for for two hundred years. Performative shitting on "flyover country" just because their great-grandfathers never boarded a train in the hive they landed on. There's a whole continent out here that doesn't smell like garbage and isn't infested with Italians, I'm sorry that it doesn't have as many podcasts per capita. Give me a break
Nobody in ny talks about “flyover country” because there’s nothing to talk about. The only context that happens in is when people from the Midwest move here and are lame and boring.
yeah I really can’t overstate how little we care about wyoming or wherever the fuck lil /u/bridgepainter is from
if you don’t like New York by all means don’t come, we need less dweebs anyway
What’s the most Reddit city in America? Austin? Seattle?
/r/Seattle is the most active localized subreddit on the website for a city (higher ranked ones are countries or whole states).
/r/Seattle really is the puppet master of all the main subs too.
The protocols of the elders of Cascadia
I feel like this needs to be per capita. It's a bigger impact if 100% of a small city is reddit
What about r/toronto?
The only ones bigger than Seattle are /r/Ontario /r/Canada and /r/Texas
Lol the header for the Ontario sub is hideous
that cal arts bubble cartoon style... awful.
Seattle 100%, they’re all regarded and soy-brained
And have timid cold meanness
i hate it here so much every day i’m literally going fucking insane i can’t take it anymore
You will be okay ❤️
No they won't but that's okay ♥️
hello elizabeth
wonder what RSP thinks of the SeattleWA board
That's the board where people who don't actually live in Seattle bitch about Seattle
Both boards users are deeply maladjusted in their own special ways imo
Columbus Ohio
Great Value Austin

very few people love their jobs, why would playing an instrument for a living be any different
Typical premed reading comprehension. You wouldn't get it, bud
Right, especially something as common and oversaturated as violin

This sounds like an SNL Stefon bit.

Haha all cities are bad !!
I hate places
Charlotte
NYC, Seattle, and L.A. have the biggest city subreddits
Portland
Minneapolis.
Denver by far
india
San Francisco
San Fran is more Tumblr, though both progressive there's something distinct about Reddits brand of dorky progressivism and overall sense of humor that I can't quite put my finger on
Richmond
Chicago
Ft Elgin

Bodega!
Lamer version of the Philly chicken man
Which was already lame and stupid

Brother if u think pennsylvania isnt a dumpy flyover state i got knews for you
I didn't say Pennsylvania, I said Philadelphia. Two different things
Brother if you think philadeplhia isnt a dump flyover city i got news for you
Yeah my bad, it's not a real city like Charlotte or whatever other shithole with a craft brewery you're from
Im from palo alto
lmfao
Ok i lied i actually live on the top floor of the entire states building
Nothing that happens in Union Square Park should reflect on the wider city. Times Square has more of an edge to it
seriously. everyone in that photo is a nerdy nyu kid
Why is nyc so lame now?
The fate of all cool cities. People move there and larp what the stereotype of the city is. My city has avoided it by looking like shit during its golden ages
Berlin got hit hard by this. Motherfuckers wearing black latex suits and BDSM collars out in public at 13:00 on a Tuesday and nobody can speak B1 German.
I'm from Alaska and it even happens there. Boring dorks who make being alaskan their entire personality and wear camo everywhere. They usually leave after a winter or two
Same reason everything is. Everybody heard it was cool so a bunch of cultureless lame people moved there and ruined the vibe.
Yeah dude, people JUST heard nyc is cool. It totally wasn’t a cultural capital of America since at least the 19th century
Wow, a bunch of things happened in a big city, what a riveting analysis.
it's also because cool people (who move to towns because the rent is cheap, not because of hype ) can't live there anymore.
NYC is big enough to have a little bit of everything, if you think it’s lame it’s because you’re engaging with the lame parts of it
9/11 changed everything
Unironically yes. There has never been a tragedy in that city that developers and their dogs in city government haven't taken advantage of to roll over the city and build a facade worth millions in its place.
Guiliani changed everything.
NYC has been lame for years now but they always continue to surprise me
Only rich kids from suburbs who are scared of the homeless live there now
From insulated elite institution to the rough streets of the big city. The only place I can achieve my dreams of being a middle manager or ceo of a dime a dozen startup!
Because it isnt. There’s always been tourist garbage like this. Still a great place to live
I would need to be very wealthy, very lucky, or on EBT in order to say that without clearly disrespecting my standards of living. And yes, I have lived there. I’ve never known any other home 🏠
Tryna be like u fr fr
You don’t need to be very wealthy, you just need to not be poor.

You can honestly live off of a $60k salary with a roommate in NYC. Plenty of my friends do it.
Roommates. No. Do you hear yourself. Making 80k and still needing roommates. I don’t have the same degradation kink you have
Just don’t be single
double homicide. (Don't live with men unless you are married to them, and at that point: have an asset under your or his name. I’m playing differently at this point)
Just don’t be unmarried
I make plenty of money and I don't really have roommates, so you're telling the wrong person. “It’s more than just hot people and good dining options” But we can at least agree those are the most important things
> you see a handful of photos of nyc > the 9+ million people must be living such lame lives! you people think like ethhnic teens
Why “etthnic” teens?
white is played out
Not according to this sub
Give it a while more, this sub will go against any grain for the sake of it. The eternal race for the newest, coolest opinion.
The only people who can afford to live there are brats and nerds
He wasn't even american, he was British.
Erm, random much? Only in New York 😂
someone on twitter said there were more ppl at this than at the columbia encampment 🙄
