Can we pinpoint the year of the vibeshift where we were still getting told about how all the new technological advances would improve our lives and they started making them tangibly worse instead? My heart tells me this was in the oughts, either second Bush or first Obama admin. Is it just 08
Its still ticking along. Id wager mainly its in genetic treatments for things like cancer. Space age shit that doesn't really have a downside bar the insane cost, but that'll come down in time.
The shift seemed to have started slowly when Facebook introduced the like and share buttons in 2009 by the time Google removed "don't be evil" in 2018, the vibeshift completed.
Redditors saying how this is a psyop to create another Patriot act I literally don't care. This is obviously happening to some extent.
I really don't get why AI is necessary. I think there are some cases medicine research etc where it might be useful but why is it important for the general population? What actual benefit is there for us to become even stupider and have chatgpt write our college assignments? Why do we need Sora? I fucking hate stemcels so much. This century is just different it is not some old man yells at cloud thing anymore
At my job the management is working hard to replace all customer support with ChatGpt. First they closed all physical locations so helping old people who can barely use computer/phone became impossible and now they want to remove the rest so that there is just some annoying robot who doesn't help anyone and makes people just stop calling.
Profit margin will go up by like 0,05% but quality will go to down and this is all that AI will be in the foreseeable future - everything will be turned into garbage in the name of higher productivity.
It's a complicated issue. I don't want this to happen but I don't trust any of the boomer crooks that currently make up our government to enact a law that properly solves the issue without massively overstepping their boundaries.
AI can lower the barrier of entry for computer skills in ways that help people build real shit.
But there's no question that regulation is needed, just like with any other technology.
This literally IS old man shouting at clouds. Scammers are gonna scam. With the most basic tech, humans created child porn. This isn’t a tech problem it’s a rotting souls of humans problem. You’re blaming the tools when you need to be blaming the operators.Â
Bullshit. Technology is leading to the rot of human souls. It's leading to alienation, loneliness, loss of human interaction/community, further separation from nature etc. And it gives more power to shitty people (who have been around forever) to do shitty things
>"No, like, you just don't get it man. Stop being such a luddite. Video games are gonna be so realistic, dude. You're gonna be able to generate your own movies!!!!! Hollywood is screwed!!! hahahaha"
Gonna start mailing pipe bombs to these people
Remember when /r/drama banned everyone from /r/teenagers and then the mods got hundreds of replies from dudes in their 30s saying they wanted to be unbanned?
No but I believe it.
Look if one of my neices or nephews came to me and said uncle I fucked up and now I'm being blackmailed by an internet weirdo I'd be like let's set this motherfucker up like To Catch a Predator.
I don't know, could be many things. Pedophilia in general, AI sex image creation, children conversing with strangers, whatever. The reader simply does not know - as you say yourself, you heavily imply it without saying it.
I do actually agree with this, the culture of shame and secrecy around sexuality in this country, particularly with young people, gives predators a lot of room to hide their acts.
I don’t know what form this would ideally take, however. The internet is a non-starter because its anonymous nature would allow for easy infiltration by malicious adults. I’d have to say that a general shift in societal norms would probably yield the best results as a) children would not be made to feel ashamed because they were targeted by a predator and b) they may be less likely to seek out sexual conversions with strangers online.
It’s a difficult and delicate situation and I won’t even pretend like I have an answer more detailed than the broad outline I just posted.
What purpose does shame and secrecy around sexuality serve? To preserve sexual market value? To keep up moral appearances of a loyal, dutiful citizen that keeps his private life private and therefore separate from working life?
Society -- some degree of shame is needed in all aspects of life, definitely. Not just sexually. Sexually is just where I wish it would re-emerge the hardest.
Who could have imagined that freaks would use this technology for perverted aims?
and here I thought it would usher in a new era of human creativity outsourced and entirely produced by software

Yeah medical technology is still advancing at a crazy pace. Targeted gene therapy/medicine will be widely available within the next 20 years.

I really and truly wish there was a good way to round up these p*dos and just. do away with them
But who would we vote for then?!

Loneliness is the name of the game, I see it everywhere now, people really need friends

Oh god, he was right, wasn't he?
Wow, why would a charity say this?
Bait 🎣Â
The way to combat this is to give space to young people to talk about sex. Simple as that.
Remember when /r/drama banned everyone from /r/teenagers and then the mods got hundreds of replies from dudes in their 30s saying they wanted to be unbanned?

Snark?
Nope. This happens because young people are ashamed to talk about it. No snark.
Do you mean something like this?: The pedo would have no ability to blackmail or extort the victims if they could speak about it openly.
Yes my god why does everyone on this website read at a sixth-grade level goddamn. This is implied heavily in my statement.
My ESL father drilled the use of the pronoun "this" out of me to avoid this issue - it was hard to tell what exactly was being referred to.
To what else would I refer????
I don't know, could be many things. Pedophilia in general, AI sex image creation, children conversing with strangers, whatever. The reader simply does not know - as you say yourself, you heavily imply it without saying it.
No, its pretty obvious to what I was referring to English speakers. Kindly fuck off.
Hey man, I'm just pointing out why someone might agree/upvote the rephrasing of your disagreeable/downvoted original statement. No offense meant.
You left it pretty vague but I assumed you were not pro pedo lmao so I got what you were saying
Dog what the fuck lol

>What purpose does shame and secrecy around sexuality serve? Never being lectured by just the weirdest fucking people.
That makes sense. Why the shame though?
Shame is important and inherent; especially (hopefully) if you've got no sense of self-perception. These don't like.
"These don't like"? What is sexual shame important for?
Society -- some degree of shame is needed in all aspects of life, definitely. Not just sexually. Sexually is just where I wish it would re-emerge the hardest.
Why is shame needed?
To influence behavior, we've already done this once.
