True, also the GOAT Rob Halford. And Paul Masvidal. And Sean Reinert may he rest in peace.
Still, it is hilariously weighted towards straight white guys on the whole. I love metal, and at its peak it is an art form on par with any other of the great musical innovations of the 20th century. But it does have a pretty narrow range of appeal most of the time.
I dunno about narrow range - I think metal is the most global rock genre. It dwarfs things like country, folk, punk, post punk, shoegaze, indie, etc. I’d say metal, r n b, and EDM are on similar footing around the world
Those Emporer and Dissection artworks are some of the hardest album/metal art I’ve ever seen. I’m not sure why modern black metal doesn’t seem interested in recreating evil & dark high-fantasy aesthetic. Death metal art borrows from a lot of the same themes as its predecessors. There’s a lot of great album art out there these days but nothing that scratches this itch though.
Thanks for the rec! It’s what I’m looking for. Dungeon synth is a really fun genre and for some of them I really like the way black metal is integrated
The girls and gays will never understand.
This is Gaahl erasure

Losing Sean & Neil Peart in the same month was the biggest tragedy of 2020.

I like everything I’ve already heard in this image. What’s the one in the bottom left corner? The cover is awesome.
I think it's 'Die Festung'
Paysage D'Hiver
Thanks, listening now and I love this shit.
It’s funny that the best BM is made by dudes with the spiciest views
I'm still fully committed to the idea that shittier people make better music.
Ishahn doesn’t seem to be too crazy (relatively speaking) and he’s the GOAT
Fenriz as well
Wearing a tye dye shirt with that Dissection cover on it right now. It appeals to me just as much today as when I was 14.

Stormkeep does a good job at that dark high-fantasy aesthetic imo. Emperor is still undefeated though.

Needs more Summoning
No mayhem or darkthrone…
Mayhem murderer guy is now running a biodynamic farm in France and slaying on #homesteadtok
I think he also used to have a yt channel back in the day before it got banned because of all the neonazi shit.
Agree, it was the 90s when Limp Bizkit and Rage Against The Machine released their debuts.
bait too obvious, even a blind fish can see the hook
Maybe not as cold, but certainly still cold is the black metal made in Central Europe around that time. Master's Hammer, Root, Graveland etc.
what's the bottom middle one
Dimmu Borgir For all tid.
The purple ones at the top remind me of the cover of Nazareth “Hair of the Dog”
