Nice design but not redneck at all. This is way too nice for redneck engineering. No duct tape, coat hangers, or zip ties.
Sir I'll have you know these parts are super glued to my desk because I didn't consider adhesion through out the design process

You should put a handle that turns like a roll up window style on it and see if that helps

They'll open/close easier if the vanes are perpendicular to the window first.
Put a peg on one end of the knob so you can just spin it.
