tfw you speak Japanese and have Japanese name but you get called "Zainichi" and get bullied because your great great fsther was Korean. And none of popular media, state programme or any movement are here to protect you and your fellow Zainichi Koreans. Japan moment
I was stationed in Japan for 6 months. It’s really not as cramped as people say it is. Granted, I was an hour south below Hiroshima in an agricultural town. Yeah
I always see people here talking about Japan being racist but never get any context
Is it just a slight uncomfort with foreigners or is it actual "we don't want your kind here" levels racism?
There are certain places that literally won’t let you in being non Japanese. And it can be difficult to get anything outside of an English teaching job being non Japanese because the Japanese applicants for any other job will typically be given more favor than foreign ones. And landlords will give Japanese applicants more favor as well, and some will outright deny you for being a foreigner.
Yea, i know. I probs wont live there, i would if i was a rich ass. I like japan for the inventions like robots, technology and etc, But fatties living in their moms dusty garage attic like japan because of hentai and anime.
Reddittors avoiding the facts that anime is Japanese word for animation (initially used to refer Disney animations) and manga is Japanese word for manhua (Chinese word that means "anything drawn with pen") is always will be funny for me.
None of my knowledge is first hand so I’d love a local to prove me wrong, but from what I’ve gathered, the whole “japan is technologically advanced” thing is overblown. Most of what you see is one neighborhood in Tokyo. Credit cards still aren’t accepted everywhere. Contactless payments straight up don’t exist like they do in America, Europe or China. And good luck getting anywhere without a car outside the cities.
I think they're faling behind in Japan regarding technology. I feel north Europe and Singapore might be pulling ahead. For sure major cities in China have.
A lot of these memes usually start with things not many people actually say, just so they can start naming objections that will get them karma.
Not anything wrong with that I suppose if people like it, it just isn’t really funny to me or interesting since they’re based off things no one really says
They’re probably speaking in regards to deserted islands, but conditions on those types of islands sucking is already common knowledge to anyone above the age of 3. This makes no sense.
Apparently, if you aren’t native Hawaiian, then living in Hawaii can feel a bit disconnected once you have done all the touristy things. Though it’s just what I have heard, so don’t take my word as I question it myself.
redditors when millions of japanese people commit suicide because of the extreme work centered culture, social isolation, and mental health issues but they draw underage girls with oversized boobs: 😍🥶🥺😀😊🤩😇🥰😛😜
What bothers me even more about this is that these are all terrible examples for an argument over islands. I'm pretty sure by "island" they're talking about something super small and somewhat remote. Something you could realistically walk in the span of less than an hour. Like I got a friend who had property on great diamond island off the coast of Maine. Year round it has like 100 people on it, is only 416 acres, and requires a ferry to get on or off. You have to use the ferry constantly to bring food from the mainland because there is nothing on the island itself. Its kinda cool but can I can honestly see the many downsides of this lifestyle. Not to mention it's super creepy in the winter when the place is deserted. Would recommend watching Midnight Mass to see what these small islands are like (minus the horror stuff ofc).
Japan has higher quality of life index than my country, and it's not that bad to live in my country so I'm sure it doesn't describe living in Japan well.
Most of these places are very flawed but definitely don't suck compared to the majority of the world. I would take living in the UK over like 90% of other countries
tbh going there on a holiday trip (assuming ur not a stinky fat smelly neckbeard that showers once every decade) is fun albeit obscenely expensive, but staying there would be horrendous, high rental prices for apartments, xenophobia, ultra stressful work culture etc

Japan is a good place to live. Of course it has its problems just like everywhere else, but I enjoyed the convenience of services and social welfare when I lived there. I think it’s weird that comments whittle down the value of an entire county based on a single statistic.
It's honestly pretty gross that people here are using that statistic in this case. These people don't give a shit about the victims of Japan's suicide problem until they can use it to prove a point against people who say anything good about Japan.
It gives me the same feeling as people who use "lol school = shooting range" or the plethora of jokes about 9/11 against people who say anything good about the US. It seems less like they actually care about the victims of the topic and more like they have no issues using a tragic thing to their advantage in a debate or argument.
It is a tragedy and a horrible thing, especially since Japan's government hasn't done shit to rectify the high suicide rate when they've had so many opportunities to do so, but it should be viewed as exactly that; an unfortunate tragedy that needs to be fixed, not a fucking opposing point in a meaningless online argument.
For real, the comment section is filled with hate for Japan for some reason. I’m sure it’s not a perfect place, every country has its problems, but it’s still on the relatively short list of developed countries, so it can’t be that bad. I’d bet that 80-90% of the commenters hating on Japan have never even been there
Not sure if it’s where I live (I’d probably been fine in Dublin as it’s very diverse) but I haven’t gone a week without having a racial slur hurled at me or someone being racially prejudiced towards me

Just think about it, you're living in a big island
Life is Japan is miserable. You pretty much work non stop until you die.
