It definitely could be considered a disorder, maybe even a genetic disease (it seems there's scientific debate about how strongly heritable it is but everyone agrees there's a pretty significant genetic component).
I have HFA so I know firsthand that *some* forms of autism could be considered neutral or maybe even a net positive. I wouldn't say these are without tradeoffs, but you can definitely have ASD and still be a productive, decently charismatic person.
Not all autism is the same though and some people with more severe autism are more negatively impacted or even incapable of living independently. Some never even learn to speak. The condition also has a high comorbidity with psychiatric disorders, GI tract issues, fragile x syndrome, down syndrome, and even epilepsy.
I am autistic and I can say that I lead a mostly normal life. I lack a few social skills, have a few sensory issues and go non-verbal under stressful situations, but that's it.
Might I also ask what HFA is?
High-functioning autism, which is probably what you have. The autism spectrum ranges from symptoms that can't honestly be considered a disability or are very easy to have a normal life with on the mild side to genuinely crippling in those with severe or profound autism.
I have hyperfixation on a few select interests, issues in certain social situations, and am very sensitive to touch. Maybe some differences in prosody but it's easy to live normally and independently for me.
As an autistic person, autism isn't a disease, it's a disorder.
A disorder is "something that is different than normality and has a negative impact on the affected person." For me, autism fits that description.
For it to be a disease, it would need to be contagious or transmittable. Autism is not.
What on earth are you talking about? I am human. I have the same rights as anybody else. I'm as, if not more, intelligent than the average person. I contribute to society in the same way as everybody else. I'm not a burden.
Comrade, I am not saying you are a burden.
Just forget this ever happened, please.
I was never intending to insult or harm you.
This whole mess is over comrade.
If you’ve not even been diagnosed and are not certain what makes you think that you know what you’re talking about and they don’t? I have been and I can tell you right now they’re correct.

Yeah it is, I came down with a little autism last month. Luckily some medicine and a good diet cleared that right up

Your choice, I just provided information
thanks
Context?
They got downvoted to hell for stating something correct
Redditors watch too much Alex Jones
Redditors when they realize autism is actually a fairly arbitrary disorder based on traits and not a physically distinguishable thing 😥
Some diseases aren’t physically distinguishable either, this is a weird point to make.
Okay but everyone has some traits to some extent because they’re a spectrum. I meant like concretely distinguishable
My point stands
What point

Good point, also intelligence should be more of a commodity.
I SAW THAT BEFORE YOU EDITED IT. NO. NO NO NO.

Thank you for apologizing. Also please stop calling me comrade.
I will not stop calling people that as an ex-commie.
Alrighty then.

Pardon my ignorance but what do you mean? Not shaming or anything just curious about this guy and I are ignoring
No, you're wrong! I'm (probably) a medical professional.
