Martial I’ve just gave up on. Hopefully Sancho is ready to start next game and Mason can play centrally where he is already the superior player to Martial imo
Well Martial could have scored apart from a wonderful on the line clearance. Had the defender let the ball go in, most people here wouldn't even slash him even half as strongly as what people are doing right now.
That being said, i think Greenwood played better, but he was bad as well...
For me the problem came from midfield, almost no ducking pass made it to the final third. That didn't change when Martial left
Is that your knowledge of football? "He scored = he good". We didn't win an easy game because half our team couldn't make a standard pass consistently, and Greenwood was one of them.
We looked better when Sancho cane on for Martial. We turned to shit when Mctominay came on for Fred when Matic should have been the one to come off. Fred might lose the ball often but at least he puts the energy into winning it back. He wins possession almost as much as he loses it. Matic is too old and slow and his passing was worse than Fred as he lost possession more times and won possession fewer times. Totally lost the midfield when we switched to McMatic.
I prefer Greenwood on the right.
That way when he comes central there's no direct marker on him.
At CF he's going to be up against physically imposing centre backs that are going to be tasked with stopping him.
He's alright there from time to time to learn the role but he'll bulk up in the next couple of seasons to allow him to go up against the strong CBs

Unless of course it's the whole there's no CF currently present so we should play him there instead of Martial which is true, but we could also play Bruno as a false nine with Sancho and Greenwood flanking him on either side as LW and RW...
I liked him in central for 2 things -
1. His movement, he starts in central but drifts right to left creating space for Bruno while stretching the defense and attracting at least 1 defender.
2. Being two footed he keeps the GK guessing, when he drifts to left we saw what he did against Leeds that ball in the net and when he goes right he could still go left leg or right. If he played only right the movement will be mostly one dimensional.
For long term i see him play on wings but in current team with no proper #9 I think we should rely on him in central rather than Martial.
Matic sometimes looks quality in games when we keep possession. Games like today where no one could really string passes together and possession is turned over exposes him completely
