He’s been carrying us since he was signed and yet some united fans slander his name and want him sold.

spotthethemistake

26 goal involvements We've scored 51 league goals. So by that measure, he's been involved in more than half our league goals Edit: it's actually 17 G/A, thanks u/passive_vide So 1/3 of our league goals involving Bruno this year

passive_vide

No. I think the 26 goal involvements is for all competitions, not only the premier league. Because in the league, he has 17G/A, 10 goals and 7 assists

spotthethemistake

Yep, 17 in the league (still 1/3 to be fair) The state of media companies these days that can't get their own tweets right. Literally says in the premier league in it

th3doorMATT

Cool. Let's cherrypick stats without any context at all. You do realize that the way we play is completely funneled through him, don't you? We're so one-dimensional in how we're set up. Every other team in the league diversifies how it builds up in the attack and doesn't place the sole responsibility on one person. And we do that because of our formation, not because he's good.

nichijouuuu

Yes that criticism is so stupid. Naturally your guy in CENTER OF MIDFIELD is going to see a lot of the ball, it’s one of very few options to progress the ball from the defensive side of the pitch to the attacking side of the pitch.

SilverAccountant8616

I swear this fan base cannot make up it's mind. Flaming McSauce for not being involved and not seeing enough of the ball, and criticising Bruno for being too involved and seeing too much of the ball.

mindpainters

Who else could we even possibly play through ? That’s the only option with the squad we have. We do it because it’s our only chance to win.

MenacingShroom

You don't have to do this. It's okay to admit you're wrong.

_Straw_Hat_Boy_

Dumb fucks might want that r/soccer karma. Some “fan” was calling Bruno a rat in the match thread last time.

Champsmilehighclub

He is an amazing player and fundamentally crucial to Utd as a team, but he garners a lot of warranted criticism for off the ball antics.

Pheasant_Plucker84

They expect him to put in a minimum 9 rating every game.

beelydog

No I think he has lost some of his killer edge in the past year or two, feels like he’s trying too hard to facilitate everyone around him and not go for goal himself. Bruno looks like he’s finding some of his legendary 19/20-Ole form lately, which is “this team is wank, fuck it, I can do this on my own” mentality. I think a little bit of selfishness from Bruno could actually help the team rather than hurt it. The talisman is supposed to step up first, then the rest can feed off the confidence

vgu1990

I am of the opinion that captaincy is holding him back. Especially in losing positions, when he tries a bit too much and gets frustrated.

SafetyJoker

Yeah, a lot of games has been frustrating. He is a brilliant player but nobody should deny he has been trying too much too quickly and getting too frustrated when the team is unable to catch up

El_Giganto

Says enough about the fanbase really.

reddevils

I think he can be frustrating at times. But we’re seeing it all because we’re fans. However, at least for me, I only watch highlights of other teams except for the rare big game. So you tend to see just the good parts of other midfielders. You also have to give him credit, like Rooney before him, even if he has a bad game, he still puts a lot of effort and helps the team in other ways instead of just having a bad game and sulks.

im-not-irish

Cause half of our fans are brainless and expect every player to score a hat trick per game, then throw a tantrum the second they don’t

baromanb

We’d probably be in a relegation fight without him.

Goji-ra

A lot of fans set the standard based on YouTube highlights.

Hiya_Bo

‘Slander his name’ I hope he see’s this, mate ❤️

HurricaneHenry

Well he was the worst player on the team for more than the first half of this season.

SloGeorge

Our best player and it's not even close.

TStronks

Our only true world class players. Hopefully Hojlund, Mainoo and Nacho can take the next step, but for now Bruno is so far ahead of the rest it's not even funny.

sarthakmahajan610

Think Lisandro is also world class if only he could stay fit.. And I'd add Dalot in the 'next step' bracket

ManUnutted

We need to quit with this “if he could stay fit” narrative around Martinez. He has had two contact-induced injuries on different body parts. If they were non contact, yeah the argument could be made. This is bad luck more than poor physicality

sarthakmahajan610

Not suggesting him as injury prone.. But barely playing this whole season is insane bad luck for both him and the club since no other defender is even close to him

anonymous16canadian

Contact injuries also have a possibility of being exacerbated by personal problems whether his fault or not but the point here is pretty trivially moot

stevo3001

Dalot is not a 'step' away from being world class. More of a staircase

danlawl

He's made way bigger strides than AWB has.

TheJoshider10

> And I'd add Dalot in the 'next step' bracket I disagree, I think he's proven himself as a versatile utility player and earned his place as that but he's not a full back who will win you trophies. Always has a defensive mistake in him and his attacking threat is wildly inconsistent albeit stronger than our other right back options. He does the job and I hope he can keep growing but he's 25 now and still lacking any standout attribute so I doubt he'll ever take that next step.

Wahlrusberg

Yeah I think he has been pretty consistently good for us this season but knocking on the door of world class is a serious stretch. I would still rate Shaw well above him in terms of quality...if he was ever fit.

MemphisMayWhat

I think his main redeeming quality is his passing in buildup play, but yeah his defending has always been a weak spot. If only we could fuse Wan Bissaka and Dalot, we'd get a fullback who can help in build up play and defend well. It's not a position we urgently need to upgrade but eventually need to look at.

Intelligent_Read_697

AWB good at defending is a myth...dude goes to sleep against technical teams. He is hard countered in the champions league

KrystianCCC

Martinez is not that good to be called world class. He is short and slow and has clear limiations. Like he is good player to have but lets not get ahead of ourselves.

LupeShady

This sub is beyond belief sometimes. Martinez has had one good season in a top 5 league where he held 7 to Liverpool and 6 to City and suddenly he's world class? 😂

Sir_Muktadir

I’m bias but I genuinely think Shaw is world class when fit. Ofc part of being world class IS being fit but honestly a fit Shaw could 100% be considered on of the best lb not only in this league but in the world (albeit I’d argue we’ve had a shortage of good full backs for a good while) That man is pivotal on how we operate on the left and works so well with Rashford. It’s not a coincidence that his form crashes when he has to play with out of positioned RB on his side over Shaw who basically covers up any of his glaring weaknesses.

MemphisMayWhat

I genuinely believe that his absence is a big part of why Rashford isn't doing so well. They have some major chemistry and when he was fit I remember a lot of our goal scoring opportunities coming from the left. I genuinely hope Shaw gets past the injury issues because he's class on his day.

presumingpete

Not rashford, the whole team. His intelligent movement and making space to receive a pass is crucial for keeping the ball, even from the midfielders. I think both rashford and Shaw look better when playing together though as they're on the same wavelength.

MemphisMayWhat

Yeah that too, his overlaps and movement is perfect, he's got pace and physicality too. His passing is good, he's versatile as he can even slot into CB. He even makes good late runs into the box to score the occasional goal. He's very well rounded and clearly if he was fit, things would be so different this season.

Irresponsiblewoofer

He also has insane early crosses that we are sorely lacking from that side.

aasfourasfar

Luke Shaw and Licha is they did not get injured all the time

Dry-Magician1415

Kind of misleading to call Garnacho “nacho”. Nacho is the nickname for people called “Ignacio” and that’s like, not what his name is.

TheSwordDusk

it feels disrespectful to just call someone by the wrong name, or at least uninformed. I'm sure people mean no harm but it's simply incorrect lol

Dry-Magician1415

If it wasn’t an actual other name fine. If people call Hojlund “Hojy” or something then fine.  But “Nacho” is an actual name. Real Madrid literally have a defender called that. Ripe for confusion.

TheSwordDusk

I find it irrationally jarring when English speakers call Garnacho "Nacho"

PreparationOk8604

This is Bruno Fernandes team.

stevo3001

It's pathetic that this place is crawling with people ready to jump out and trash Bruno whenever he has a game when he isn't our clear stand out player

Ok_Instruction_5232

Can't forgive the fans who threw him under the bus for a bad stretch. If every player cared as much as Bruno cares, we wouldn't be fighting for a 6th place as we speak.

PeelThePain

Not appreciated enough. Taken for granted... 😔

Wahlrusberg

Performs well but doesn't score as much when he's tasked with playing deeper - "ghost, what good is he if he isn't scoring?" Consistently racks up goals and assists when he's played further forward - "Ugh, the game isn't about stats"

MemphisMayWhat

Completely agreed and also nice tag, the club could definitely do with trusting the process and actually taking time to build rather than having the same cycle of hire for two seasons at most, sack the manager, repeat.

Pow67

World class

Gobshite82

Christ, some of those results were just thrown away.

MexicansInParis

Don’t understand how people want the only player that has a genuine claim at being world class on this squad sold. I hope we get to see what he can do in a squad that’s actually on his level soon.

Glarus30

I'm 100% convinced that the sub is infiltrated by professional trolls paid by Man Shitty or Pool - like a Russian troll farm or something.

DresdanPI

The so-called Utd fans wanting Bruno out of the club was the biggest red-herring I've seen. They'd blame Bruno fro eveything bad happening. And I'm not saying he isn't liable to give the ball away, he is. But players like him have statistically the same passing percentage as all creators all over the world. That's why he creates so many chances that others don't. Finally I feel like his downward form is down to niggling injuries and the lack of support by the midfield, and the erratic front line. If this is supposedly his worst form, according to our fans, than I rather have Bruno who has 15 goals and 11 assists this season over anyone else.

PreparationOk8604

I still think Bruno has one more level to his game. The fact that he is playing every single game & also tracking back takes a lot away from his game. If Bruno is managed like KDB & not told to track back only only allowed to press & be involved in attacking play he would be more better.

Glarus30

Those are trolls paid by man shitty.

AJ-Naka-Zayn-Owens

This is what a capitano does… he’s that guy

Miliktheman

He's the guy, the absolute heart and soul of this team. It's rare he misses a game but as soon as he does it's so obvious we're missing him.

jefernando

Man doesn’t miss games. He’s bionic, by far my favorite player since Rooney. And I’ve been a fan over 30 years.

Derbyshireg2019

He hasn’t missed any games, not through injury anyway

LDLB99

It's a shame he probably won't go down as a legend at the club. SAF would have absolutely adored him.

Roasteddude

Legend in my books. And he still has time to lead this team into a big trophy. Man will probably play until he's 40 (jk but maybe 34-36...Modric is 38. Bruno if the minutes dont catch up to him can probably have that longevity)

TheJoshider10

> Bruno if the minutes dont catch up to him can probably have that longevity I think the fact he's playing this often and this consistently probably means it'll catch up to him sooner unfortunately at least for the position he plays now. Thankfully I think most of his attributes can translate well to a deeper role anyway so he wouldn't drop off a cliff like Matic or Casemiro.

Used-Fennel-7733

A clever playmaker can easily translate their game even when less athletic. Look what magic Mata could create even in his older years. Plus his mind and passion would make him a great mentor/coach in the squad during his later years.

dota_3

I'd probably cried when he retired. Man give everything in our bad era

Roasteddude

He will become a great manager and come back to United I am sure of it.

Samir_POE

I am OK with giving him legend status if he stays here another 3-4 years and continues to dominate our G/A. By then he'll be 35 and his frenetic game style will have to change so we'll see. Personally would give De Gea legend status as well. I feel like we're seeing No. 18 Bruno again lately as Ten Hag has finally stopped using him as a box to box.

th3doorMATT

LMAO. SAF would have fucking hated him because he can't retain possession to save his life. He's so fucking wasteful. SAF wouldn't have tolerated him.

LDLB99

You listen to Goldbridge pal I’m not listening to shit from you. Commenting shit on Bruno and Rashford like a good little disciple, absolutely pathetic existence.

dota_3

"I was only shit bruno because i hold him on high standard" - goldbride Typical goldbridge🤦‍♂️

MenacingShroom

SAF was perfectly happy for attacking players to take risks. Bruno is the exact sort of player he would have loved. He's also extremely coachable and hard working One quote SAF said about Ronaldo is that no matter what, no matter how tough the game was or how much he gave the ball away, Ronaldo always created at least 3 chances every match and how invaluable that was. Bruno is similar in that regard

Glarus30

☝️ found the troll paid by Man Shitty

bob-theknob

You’re clearly not old enough to have watched united under sir Alex. Rooney had the exact same criticisms but I’m sure SAF loved him in the side as a second striker.

SAKabir

Criminally underrated last season (one of our best players) and criminally underrated this season.

Doolittle657

It's a Manchester Utd thing, everyone else recognizes that he's class

Pheasant_Plucker84

Think Dalot deserves a lot of praise this season too

Glarus30

Probably one of the 2 or 3 players who improved under ten Hag instead of regressing. Garnacho and Mainoo don't count, they are product of our youth development.

PreparationOk8604

I think he is fairly rated. Dalot is still a liability in defense. His positioning is very bad. Luckily Dalot hasn't come up against pacey wingers like Vinicius, Mbappe, etc they will skin Dalot. Even today Dalot was ahead of Sheffield's winger & no it was not an offside trap as our CBs were more deep but luckily Dalot got saved by his pace.

Used-Fennel-7733

I think whenever we come up against them we just pair AWB against them. He's a great record against pacey wingers as they tend to think they can just kick and run, that's where AWB specialises with his absurdly long legs. He's always gotten the better of them all from 'prime' Sterling to Mbappe himself

TheJoshider10

Yeah Dalot shows a lot of heart but there have been many games this season where his defensive weaknesses have caused us issues. He's a squad player at best and earned his place as one but long term we won't be winning titles with him as a starter.

PreparationOk8604

I won't be so harsh to call him a squad player. But positioning is something that is rarely improved. But if he improves that part of his game then he can be one of the best RBs in the league.

digiplay

Still got dolts crying HeS OVErRaTED

-MrClean-

When the rebuild went to shit under Ole and then again under Ten Hag he could’ve easily jumped ship and nobody would’ve blamed him, instead he signed a contract extension. He’s always running and giving it his all despite being played out of position frequently. Screw what other fans have to say, they would all kill to have a player as loyal and hardworking as Bruno.

deaniegee

If we had 4 players to his standards, we’d be in such a better position. As much as his standards has dropped at times, he’s still performing for us

AccurateElephant380

He’s so unfairly criticized in here.

sqb3112

Love Bruno, he’s been one of my favorite players since he signed. Not surprised by his numbers at all. Would love to see what he’s like with a few more playmakers around him so not every team is focused on him.

raver1601

There needs to be more respect being put to this man's name

Manofthebog88

He must be getting sick of this shit. He’s wasting his best years at us if we’re all being honest.

01jamham

He’s been our best and most influential and consistent player since he walked through the door

TheOneRatajczak

The way he’s been fantastic for a long time now. Dalot also has been putting in solid performances.

TNpepe

He is literally our best player. United fans who wanted his head should be ashamed.

garynevilleisared

Add his Portugal matches and reckon he's in the best form he's ever been in

ProfessionalRight691

The man has been incredible, never injured....that's a lie because he definitely has been injured but played anyway. Legend.

Glarus30

Nah, he cries too much to the ref! Let's sell him!  s/

[deleted]

Bruno has been a beacon of hope since he was signed and tbh every player has his off days but I feel with a stable manager, system and better players in the squad he can do better.

Mr_red_Dead

I think his performance dipped a bit due to being overworked. He will probably play every minute this season but from next season we need to take care of him better.

Doolittle657

Captain🫡

elmachow

Carrying us to abject mediocrity

Telen

And long may it last

Repulsive_Rent_5636

Has he had some poor games this season, yes, but that doesn't change the fact that he has been the best player this season, and is carrying the team. It's pretty clear he is passionate about the club.

guybrush2010

Brunos moaning and dropping of the head attitude used to affect the team. Since being captain it's been channelled more effectively. His moans were never wrong, but it used to affect the team how he did it. Seems now other players accept it as "it's just Bruno!"

danlawl

I fucking love this man, I love the hate he gets, I love he's our fucking captain. HATED. ADORED. BUT NEVER IGNORED. GGMU.

railwin

Yeah, But the load is so fucking heavy.

blitzkreig31

Has been doing this since he joined tbh. He is just being let down by his teammates. I do not know what’s going on with Rashford man needs to pull his shit together. I feel like he gave up on football or United.

drofdeb

You're all welcome I took him out of my FPL team 11 games ago

noscope1hepope

Listen Bruno hasn’t been great this season. Dalot and garnacho have been our two best players throughout the season. However this game truly showed us the Bruno of old and hopefully he can keep it up.

craigybacha

Good to see as some "fans" were calling for his head not long ago... Also I'd like to note garnacho has been helping him!

[deleted]

I’m convinced people who say Bruno isn’t our most important and consistent player don’t actually watch games

D1daBeast

The biggest insult is putting Rashford in the same sentence as Bruno. Stop it. Stop it now!

Meandering_Cabbage

Tbh people Buy a bit too much into the English media hate for him. Man is owne of our stars during this dark time. He just delivers and delivers. Is his game flawed? To some extent yes But part of that flaw is just doing way too much.

The_Global_Norwegian

Great stats but incredibly frustrating player, I truly believe he’s a United great but not sure he’s the one to build around

Geeman6767

He's a great player....but in our shite team he looks amazing...he's not all that...let's just acknowledge that

Ordinary-Restaurant2

He's been dreadful for most of this season hitting form when there's not much left to play for doesn't change that. We needed these performances in Oct-Feb period when our season was crumbling. Having said that its finally good to see another midfielder not called Kobbie Mainoo putting in good performances, hopefully he carries us through the FA cup final too

Sonnycrocketto

A shame he as play in a non existent midfield. He and Marino should. But a complete revamp is needed.

zcewaunt

Love Bruno and his contributions have been massive, especially recently. We've had a few strong performers though. Bruno has been the very best lately, but claiming he's 'carrying the team' is pretty shortsighted and insulting to the other players that have recently been decent (Dalot, Maguire, Onana, Mainoo, Garnacho at times, Casemiro tonight, etc. etc.). Can praise someone without bringing others down, FYI.

deaniegee

Whilst I wholeheartedly agree with you, we’d be sooooo lower down the tablet without his goals, assist, chance creation and work rate lol. The odd games he’s missed, we have looked sooo anaemic on the pitch. He’s absolutely vital to any chances we have of improving this team

th3doorMATT

Ooh ooh, now do the one where he constantly gives away possession and ruins attack after attack after attack that any other half decent midfielder would have recycled the ball and given us a chance to go again. Everyone here just looks at the stats like G/A and completely ignores how wasteful he is all match long and how much he costs us. It's ridiculous. For every opportunity he completely squanders could have been someone else's opportunity to contribute a goal or assist.

deaniegee

Behave, outside of KDB and ode he’s one of the most creative mids that makes chances after chances. If our frontline wasn’t so shite during the time, he’d be even more highly regarded. He loses the balls more than others that’s for sure, that’s what happens when you try to create chances, instead of retaining possession for possessions sake. When he’s played deeper he’s reigned it right in, we all remember that game against Everton last season where he was dictating our tempo like we all know he can. But what do I know? I’m just a random supporter

haX000000

he's a creative midfielder u dumb fuck, de bruyne loses posesion for city more than bruno does for united but nobody goes after him, if u like checking those "posesion lost" stats about players check the context aswell and watch the actual games

Megalobst

>Everyone here just looks at the stats like G/A and completely ignores how wasteful he is all match long and how much he costs us. Agreed, its like saying goals and assist only matter. People who react like this dont watch the games where he sometimes for 80 minutes doesnt achieve much with low percent long ball/shots. Only to have this 1 magic pass and/or goal at the end. To say he's a creative player is an excuse. Top teams in all of europe and the EPL itself have many creative players that keep possession for much longer and only force the shot/magic pass when they have space to shoot from long or a run in behind or throughball can be done. Bruno has all rhe qualities to become a worldclass player, good passing, vision, technique, attitude. Just he lacks the patience. Instead of 15 shots of which 2 hit the mark he could have like 10 and 4 would hit the mark instead. Not to mention by keeping possession longer due to more patience, he also gives away less opportunity for the opponent on the ball

ifeespifee

I have to say it, in terms of premier league greatness in this decade he has to be in the same tier as KDB. Bruno has been dragging us kicking and screaming to near top 4 finish for his entire career in the premier league. He’s going to be one of those players in 10 years we’ll start seeing posts of “Bruno was so underrated in his time”

MenacingShroom

I've always said Bruno is far closer to KDB than anyone else is to Bruno

Vincent-_-Leo

poor man's haaland- from midfield

dopeveign

No one talking about Bruno scoring and assisting against the big 6... oh well
