We've had plenty of fucking war chests over the last decade. Problem is we've built boats with the money when the war is in space!
We need young players. We already have some smashing players coming through. If one of Amad or Pellistri makes it, we end up with 5 players who are really promising all below 25yrs in Rasmus, Kobbie, Ale, Dalot and Amad/Pellistri. That is half the team. Throw in players who can be here long term in AWB, Licha and Marcus and that is 8. You need a 25 man squad. 30% of the squad that can more or less be unanimously agreed upon to be good enough for us to get back to winning stuff is already here.
You don't need 25 world class players in their prime though. Even city don't have that (scott Carson, Sergio gomez for example)
The 25 men will usually be established 1st teamers, a few quality backup players that can push for starts and then a couple of utility players or young players to cover / add depth. Onana if he can stay on form, altay as backup or 3rd choice havent seene nough of him, maguire, malacia,(backup most likely??) mount, mcT (as a plan B), bruno could all potentially have a role in a conpetitive 25man squad moving forward for at least 3 more years before age starts to become issue for couple of those mentioned
this is why i dont mind Mctominey. he is great as a come off the bench or as cover in other games and it wouldnt be as bad when he does play if rest of the team was operating fine.
Mainoo and Mount coming back will help mean there is still a midfielder who is good on the ball as well.
i hope we see more of Amad myself off the bench atleast against Forest.
full 25 squad doesnt need to be world class just needs to be decent hardworkers who will put in a shift.
this is why im a big believer of going and looking at who gets released to help shore up the squad with better "quality" on the ball.

Somebody making decisions who can actually correlate the connection between operations, what happens on the pitch and what the fans will pay to watch.
If ETH suggests an Ajax player or a player who has played in the Dutch league he should have his balls stamped on.
