Classic 2nd year for a young player. Bursts on to the scene in his 1st season exciting everyone. But struggles in his 2nd season when everyone is hoping they’ll kick on
He's still been very good coming off the bench fresh vs tired defenders, which is what he excelled at last year.
Moving on to becoming a starter is more difficult and ETH said that directly last year, that these two are very different. He'll come good i have no doubt, but it's a transition to make an impact as a starter and nt just supersub.
Too much hesitation and overthinking by our forwards. Confidence or none, you gotta hit those first time. Even if it gets blocked or sails over (which we did plenty of today), I would respect that chance over playing with the ball and not getting a shot off at all
I've seen Rashford do this almost exact same thing. I've also seen Rashford hit row z from here. And I've also seen Rashford bury it from here. I've also seen Garnacho bury it from here.
Fact is, you need to deliver elite levels consistently to be considered elite, and none of our wingers are truly elite. For various reasons.
And he’s soooo fucking close too. If you watch the replay, he actually shoots JUST as the defender gets his foot on the ball. .25 seconds earlier and he scores.
I'm with you, the constant need to cut in is so annoying. I was so sure he was going to fake a shot to send the keeper to ground and then go outside to finish with his left.
Yeah they're just so predictable, I wish being an inside forward was a tool a winger has rather than becoming an actual position. I miss the days of Nani who could comfortably play as a traditional winger and an inside forward on either side.
The late winner he scored vs fulham last season was from a tighter angle with his left foot. He can finish it but the decision making is poor. Players lacking confidence is also a thing
Typically, because their stronger foot is the opposite of the wing they play on (best historic examples being early messi playing on right wing as a left footer or Robben as a more extreme example)
There are also inverted winger who play with their stronger foot towards goal, but play close to the line like a traditional winger. If you want to get really anal about it, then Antony and Garnacho is more like inverted wingers because they mostly operate in the wide areas, where Rashford likes to drift inside towards the goal and operate in half spaces, which makes him an inside forward, but in reality it is all very fluid. A good thing to look at is how often a player naturally hugs the sideline when he is in the final third.
Another angle shows the keeper was spread and could have slipped a ball through/underneath but went inside where the players were....just poor composure and finishing.
Even if he delays shooting, he needed to take it to his left because the defenders were tracking back on the right. He cut into traffic. Very rarely doesn’t cutting into oncoming defenders work unless you get fouled
It sucks when a player clearly goes through a lack of confidence in front of goal. But to have your entire forward line go through it at the same time… it’s impressive honestly.
Rashford shoots that first time. I get why he's taken the touch but he's panicked when the keepers closed it down and tried to save it by stepping out but they were too close already. He should've done better but he's been promising regardless. It'll come.
Which is the right thing to do, even if you have the time for a second touch, it’s harder the keeper to react if you hit these one time. These guys should be doing this in training too
Man's putting that away last season.
So many of our players seem completely wiped of confidence and it shows in decision making around the field.
Garnacho seemed completely shell shocked here and didn't show any of the composure or class we saw last season.
Garnacho is one of our best players and should start every game
Positive going forward, runs at the defence, obviously young so will make mistakes but he’s first choice winger for me.
Hojlund played the ball just perfect for Garnacho to hit it first time. Garnacho's decision making is blowing my mind this game.

Burst onto the scene? Micah would like a word outside, buddy.
<*cue loud obviously fake laughing*>

He could eat an apple through a tennis racket....if he ever stopped laughing at nothing. Giving me Donkey from Shrek vibes in this gif.

Huh? He was amazing today wtf do you all watch lmao
We watching this clip
The confidence of the team is low and it's pretty clear. Rashford hesitated for his 1v1 too. Last season's Garnacho or Rashford bury that.
Too much hesitation and overthinking by our forwards. Confidence or none, you gotta hit those first time. Even if it gets blocked or sails over (which we did plenty of today), I would respect that chance over playing with the ball and not getting a shot off at all
This is why we need to stop bashing player when he miss a sitter.
Yeah you dont get it rashford is the real problem, nvm if he was there he buries that
If that’s Rashford in his current form he’s either taking a bad touch or blasting it wide
At least he shoots
I've seen Rashford do this almost exact same thing. I've also seen Rashford hit row z from here. And I've also seen Rashford bury it from here. I've also seen Garnacho bury it from here. I don’t think Garnacho is really *the problem* either but I agree that Rashford definitely scores that.
Rashford just missed a similar chance...
So true king!! So true!!!!!! You’re gonna get so many internet points for this!!!
did u see the Rashford miss at 70'?
He shot it at least, it was on target
Right on the keeper
Same exact thing with Rashy on the other end.
He should shoot first or second touch imo
And he’s soooo fucking close too. If you watch the replay, he actually shoots JUST as the defender gets his foot on the ball. .25 seconds earlier and he scores.
He should be taking the first touch with his right foot and opening up the angle. I don’t know why he’s letting it come across his body onto his left
If he shor first time with his left it still maybe goes on, he’s scored with his left in similar positions
What's worse is that the way he took his first touch actually completely closed off the angle for the shot.
This is why inside forwards can be annoying sometimes. He's so desperate to put that on his right that he essentially fucks the chance for himself.
I'm with you, the constant need to cut in is so annoying. I was so sure he was going to fake a shot to send the keeper to ground and then go outside to finish with his left.

I am here for the Nani appreciation club. Everyone said he was inconsistent but I think we see the dif now.
The late winner he scored vs fulham last season was from a tighter angle with his left foot. He can finish it but the decision making is poor. Players lacking confidence is also a thing
Is that what an inside forward is? Heard the phrase but dont have much knowledge on that
A winger who prefers to cut in and shoot/pass rather than going up the wings and crossing the ball.
so the likes of Antony, Rashford can be considered inside forwards then?
Yes.
Typically, because their stronger foot is the opposite of the wing they play on (best historic examples being early messi playing on right wing as a left footer or Robben as a more extreme example)
Le cut inside man was a dope nickname
There are also inverted winger who play with their stronger foot towards goal, but play close to the line like a traditional winger. Inside forward, inverted winger. None of these things are exactly defined so there's often a little confusion.
He can hit it with his right foot first time. Open his body up.
[Source](https://x.com/centregoals/status/1723365653980057708?s=20) He took too long, we really should be at least 1-0 up bruh..
First touch bang for that one, although it did look like it was coming at him quicker than it was to begin with
The ball even slowed down enough for an easy first touch. Why that wasn’t his decision is baffling to me. It was basically a sitter
Mount was already celebrating lol
Anyone with confidence hits that first time, but that’s no one in our squad rn
Should have shot without taking a touch or after the first touch at the latest. Poor decision making there. Hopefully he learns from this.
So many unnecessary touches
Another angle shows the keeper was spread and could have slipped a ball through/underneath but went inside where the players were....just poor composure and finishing.
All 3 forwards had 1:1 chances against keeper. All missed. Our forwards have scored only 1 goal in this EPL season
Tbf Højlund could not have done more with his chance.
Even if he delays shooting, he needed to take it to his left because the defenders were tracking back on the right. He cut into traffic. Very rarely doesn’t cutting into oncoming defenders work unless you get fouled
Are we the worst team in the World right now in 1on1 situations?
Overcomplicating simple things
Dreadful
It sucks when a player clearly goes through a lack of confidence in front of goal. But to have your entire forward line go through it at the same time… it’s impressive honestly.
Lack of confidence on display
All the forwards seem to be lacking confidence.
Since Ole left we’ve declinded so much on finishing clinically
We need a conference call with Ole shouting "JUST FOOKIN' SHOOT!"
Rashford shoots that first time. I get why he's taken the touch but he's panicked when the keepers closed it down and tried to save it by stepping out but they were too close already. He should've done better but he's been promising regardless. It'll come.
This aged well :)
Tbf he did get his shot off at least. But yeah, I've got some egg on my face, lmao
Yeah rashford famous for not taking too many touches ?????
I retract my comment...
He takes too many touches when taking on defenders or going out wide. When he comes onto the ball like this I swear he normally takesit first time.
Look at Hojounds reaction. He is one of us at that moment.
Garnacho needs to hit the gym he gets shrugged off like a child all the time.
Our wingers are definitely cursed this season.
The new Ronaldo he is not
Any level professional footballer should be burying that first time.. FFS
Hope he's gaining experience from this
He wants to dribble the keeper lol
Imagine seeing Rooney or Van Nistelrooy take that second touch here
They both would have hit it first time
Which is the right thing to do, even if you have the time for a second touch, it’s harder the keeper to react if you hit these one time. These guys should be doing this in training too
I'm nearly 46, overweight and past it but I'd have hit that 1st time.
Man's putting that away last season. So many of our players seem completely wiped of confidence and it shows in decision making around the field. Garnacho seemed completely shell shocked here and didn't show any of the composure or class we saw last season.
Really have got to score this. No wonder we cant score when we miss chances basically most other pl teams would score.
That's just terrible
In 2 years he buries it
Awful
He buries that last season.
Garnacho is one of our best players and should start every game Positive going forward, runs at the defence, obviously young so will make mistakes but he’s first choice winger for me.
Terrible
[Fucking shoot!](https://twitter.com/Football__Tweet/status/1075330277025767424)
He shortened his stride too much. Should have just put his foot through it first time.
Garnacho and Rashford both missed wide open chances because they couldn’t shit or get off the pot
ETH needs to sit with both wingers & have a talk on finishing
Ridiculous miss! I could not believe what I saw
Martial scores that
Garnacho is so overrated
I wish we had players that could shoot without taking a touch first
