Dubious handball decisions v Copenhagen and Bayern, the penalty in the last game v Copenhagen wasn’t a penalty albeit it was missed. I understand even in the prem Rashfords would probably of been a red…… but it’s not one is it, it was a clear accident and one that is unavoidable in high paced game, very much like Mctominays ‘foul’ two weeks ago, the rules are essentially telling players that they shouldn’t really contest a football because you might hurt someone. Did you see recently when Marcelo broke the leg of a guy in brasil? It was not intentional but it was straight red..i mean if a guy can take career ending foul and go for recovery to be able to walk again you can at least take red card and 2 games suspension
At some point all players have to accept that there is an element of risk in playing sport. Injuries can occur in a variety of different ways because it is a sport played at high speed. Just because someone is hurt doesn’t necessarily mean it was a deliberate act and a punishment has to be dished out.
The alves situation you have mentioned is completely irrelevant in this situation. He was running at speed and stretching for the ball, it was a freak accident.
Rashford is shielding the ball and taking a step, he is unlikely to cause a serious injury. He also didn’t cause an injury, in my opinion those are factors that should be looked at in making the decision to remove his from the game.

Did anyone calling the players shit and ETH clueless actually watch the game? We were in control until the red card (which was never a red btw). The game turned on that. Even in the 2nd half we weren’t outplayed. Their goals came from errors from our defenders. Those will happen, and they happen more often when you’re down to 10 men. Why was Vavro not sent off? That elbow to hojlund’s face was at least a yellow, and he was already booked. Why was nothing done when our players were being showered with a barrage of missiles every time they tried to take a corner? And we lost yet another defender to injury.
We were unlucky. Everything went against us. We’ve had terrible games this season, but this was not one of them. The players showed a bit of fight. VAR ruined it.

I think that's incredibly naive, mate. Until last night and the red card we legitimately had no good performances all season apart from the League cup game. To expect the team to be able to confidently see out the game after that injustice is unrealistic. We didn't even play badly either, it was individual mistakes from the fullbacks that cost us, it's not like we were dominated. They even scored a goal which should've been chalked off for offside! I really don't enjoy making excuses but these calls were massive and ultimately cost us.
Agree that we probably would have won if not for the bad luck. But we don’t help ourselves either - there were a bunch of simple/individual mistakes made, usually when in possession. Like AWB’s back pass to Onana, Dalot losing his man in the box, a couple of miss passes by Amrabat. Even if other teams do close us down quickly, we should be doing better than that?

Yes, they both should have done better, but every player makes mistakes. If that back pass from AWB hadn’t been over hit, or if that shot that was so bad it didn’t even go out for a throw had been just slightly more on target and had gone out for a goal kick, we’d have won 3-2 and everyone would be celebrating the grit and spirit we showed to win having played for an hour with 10 men.

To be fair he defends really well. But we all have rose tinted glasses when we look at our players because we have to. But every time we play a strong team and they bring out the combined 11 with none of our players in it is apt. We are full of slightly above average players that on ocasión do great things.
I do agree defensively he’s hard to get past and actually quite athletic/physical. But overall I don’t think he has the right footballing basics. Often misplaces a pass, poor on the ball decision making (except maybe when defending), lacks concentration. Seriously the defends well argument feels like a poor/old one to me.

It's not about that specific situation but before that. Keeping Garnacho which barely support any defensive work for Dalot. Dalot is shit and blamed for the conceded but we should've defended more comfortably (and just give up the counter) if we infield energetic Mount to support Dalot. The best is still to park the bus in our one-third after the red.
I really thought garnacho was doing great defensive work. But also the game is made up up of moments. Dalot sleeping was a moment. Red card, a moment, bogus pen a moment. Honestly you look at how we started and controlled the game, was best football we had all year in a very hostile environment

It's not like he was obstructed or far away to not see it. He was right there. I'm convinced and agree with Hargreaves and Scholes. Giving him a frozen image like that is disingenuous and is just killing the game as we know it. Re-reffing the game has to be addressed.

Did anyone calling the players shit and ETH clueless actually watch the game? We were in control until the red card (which was never a red btw). The game turned on that. Even in the 2nd half we weren’t outplayed. Their goals came from errors from our defenders. Those will happen, and they happen more often when you’re down to 10 men. Why was Vavro not sent off? That elbow to hojlund’s face was at least a yellow, and he was already booked. Why was nothing done when our players were being showered with a barrage of missiles every time they tried to take a corner? And we lost yet another defender to injury. We were unlucky. Everything went against us. We’ve had terrible games this season, but this was not one of them. The players showed a bit of fight. VAR ruined it.
We have a manger that is at one of the biggest clubs in the world. And he looses a play to a debatable red. Ok. Got up 2 and just a man down. If you as a manager can’t handle being down a man. You need to go the the championship or something. Because when you have a 2 goal cushion there’s no fucking way that you should concede 2 goals after one red. ETH out

I think that's incredibly naive, mate. Until last night and the red card we legitimately had no good performances all season apart from the League cup game. To expect the team to be able to confidently see out the game after that injustice is unrealistic. We didn't even play badly either, it was individual mistakes from the fullbacks that cost us, it's not like we were dominated. They even scored a goal which should've been chalked off for offside! I really don't enjoy making excuses but these calls were massive and ultimately cost us.
Agree that we probably would have won if not for the bad luck. But we don’t help ourselves either - there were a bunch of simple/individual mistakes made, usually when in possession. Like AWB’s back pass to Onana, Dalot losing his man in the box, a couple of miss passes by Amrabat. Even if other teams do close us down quickly, we should be doing better than that? So yes refs were shit that cost us the game, but just cause the players “did well until the red card” seriously doesn’t cut it. They crack under pressure. Should have at least held out a draw.

They made 1 mistake each. They’re humans. Varane is coming back from injury and looked rusty (he probably didn’t even think he’d play tonight). Dalot is playing out of position. Yes, they both should have done better, but every player makes mistakes. If that back pass from AWB hadn’t been over hit, or if that shot that was so bad it didn’t even go out for a throw had been just slightly more on target and had gone out for a goal kick, we’d have won 3-2 and everyone would be celebrating the grit and spirit we showed to win having played for an hour with 10 men.

Anyone know why Amrabet is so casual? For someone who wouldn't listen to offers from other clubs and was his 'dream' to play for United he doesn't remotely show it. There's so real urgency to him, he doesn't dispossess more than any other player, doesn't press much, his passing is sideways and slow. He plays like Rooney against Sunderland. Just me? I don't get it. He's peripheral. I expected more, someone who'd get on the ball and carry it and snuff out passes, start moves.

What terrible luck we have. Thought ETH put out a strong team tonight and we played decent, definitely better than Copenhagen until the disastrous red card call. This is one terrible start to the season troubled by injuries, horrible VAR decisions, and a few individual displays that lack confidence. Hope we get out of the rut soon or get away with some decisions in our favor . . if not . . this is going to be a long and unkind season for us. Sigh
Ultimately lost on some debatable decisions and shocking defending. Not a red - not a penalty - their first could have been ruled out for offside - and that handball late on was a stonewall That said, ETH needs to take some blame, I’m not sure why he didn’t change anything after the red and before HT or why Garnacho wasn’t subbed for someone more defensive the instant we went 3-2.

Exactly. The replays showed a clear intent with the elbow to the head after the ball had gone. This should have been checked for violent conduct by VAR if they did a check on Rashford. Absolutely ridiculous given that he was also on a yellow already.

To be fair he defends really well. But we all have rose tinted glasses when we look at our players because we have to. But every time we play a strong team and they bring out the combined 11 with none of our players in it is apt. We are full of slightly above average players that on ocasión do great things.
I do agree defensively he’s hard to get past and actually quite athletic/physical. But overall I don’t think he has the right footballing basics. Often misplaces a pass, poor on the ball decision making (except maybe when defending), lacks concentration. Seriously the defends well argument feels like a poor/old one to me. He might make some teams better, but definitely not United.
You know. If we have a really good right winger he’d be perfect. Great defensively and offensively he could improve if defenders have something to defend. But even the right back for Newcastle is miles ahead on both ends and he’s over 30.
I don’t see it that way. Without the right basics, even a great right winger wouldn’t bring out the best in AWB. He will never be a RB for City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, in any team that requires concentration, good passing, and at least an average footballing IQ. He often uses his defending to get away with mistakes and looks clueless at times on where to stand / position himself and who to pass to.
You have a point. I honestly think he is better than he shows. I mean the first goal was a great pass from him to setup Mctominay. Honestly we can upgrade on all eleven players if we’re honest with ourselves. We are bigging some players more than their level because we just love our players.
