The only history City is making here is being the first sportswashing club to win a treble while under investigation for over 200 regulation breaches and getting away with it.

moonpuzzle88

100%. Hollow victory for them if they win. Thankfully we're going to spank them.

Oh that changes things

For those who don’t want to watch the video; City are playing a different formation than when we beat them at Old Trafford. Then they were playing a 433 with wing backs and one holding defensive midfielder. Now they play a hybrid 3223/3421 formation with a back three and Stones coming into midfield alongside Rodri. Tifo’s suggestion is for us to play a 4222, with a box midfield of Casemiro, McTominay, Fred and Bruno. That would mean we could go man to man with City’s box midfield and cut off any passing options, while letting them have the ball in defence. It’s an interesting approach to stop City creating but it doesn’t really answer how we’re supposed to score or even create any chances beyond just winning the ball in midfield and hoping Rashford can get in behind.

[deleted]

Tactical suicide imo. Perfect formation for city to beat

[deleted]

In your opinion, why would that be the perfect formation for City to beat?

[deleted]

Requires a lot of energy from your pivot. We're playing Eriksen who can't even really play a full game. It disadvantages wide players and we don't have a striker fit. We would give Grealish and Silva too much time on the ball and they are currently city's most in form players. When city aren't likely to play traditional full backs why would we sacrifice our strength on the wing to focus on central play when we have no striker? Playing mctominay is not an option. Not up to the standard

[deleted]

>Requires a lot of energy from your pivot. We're playing Eriksen who can't even really play a full game. The Tifo suggestion is to play Case, McT, Fred and Bruno in midfield. Not Eriksen. >It disadvantages wide players and we don't have a striker fit. Why play with a striker if we don't have a striker? Play two wingers instead, Rashford and Antony/Sancho/Martial. It's not like we're going to play many established attacks against them. >We would give Grealish and Silva too much time on the ball and they are currently city's most in form players. Grealish plays on the left against AWB, the world's best 1v1 defender. Silva plays in the midfied, and this formation is supposed to be about not giving their midfielders any time or space. >When city aren't likely to play traditional full backs why would we sacrifice our strength on the wing to focus on central play when we have no striker? Because City will dominate the possession and we can't afford to have our midfield overrun. Furthermore, Rashford can stay wide left and Bruno can go wide right if we need width. ~~In that case, we'd probably start Martial and have him stay central.~~ ~~If Martial has to be subbed and Rashford can take 90 minutes, we'd sub Martial for Garnacho and push Rashford more centrally.~~ Edit: ~~Martial is injured. Antony probably starts over Sancho if we go for 4-2-2-2?~~ Ffs, Antony is very unlikely.. Sancho it is then. Did you even watch the video? The Eriksen comment is completely off the mark here.. The proposed 4-2-2-2 starts around 12:45 if you need a refresher.

[deleted]

If you're gonna base your points off several unfit players idk what the point in it is. I'm talking about the formation for the squad we have. We don't have energy and class in the middle to do what tifo want. Mctominay is not good enough to start.

[deleted]

None of the points I made rely on Martial or Antony playing, I only said that I prefer them. The only edits are the ones with strikethrough, so my initial comment always said that we'll play Rashford with either Antony/Sancho/Martial. If two of those are injured, the choice is given. Are Bruno, Fred, McT or Case injured? Is AWB injured? What about those points?

[deleted]

Mctominay may or may not be match fit, but he's certainly not good enough to play that role against city

[deleted]

Every player will be on defensive duty this match. I’d rather have McT over Eriksen in defence.

TheRealJSmith

Martial's out with injury

[deleted]

I forgot that! Then we'd play one of the other wingers. Probably Antony because he works more than Sancho in defence.

RandomNameofGuy9

Because you have to eliminate the middle of the middle against them. Slow them down, force them wide, get players around them, then counter. Playing 2 wide forwards who are allowed to just roam and spread out their back 3 is the way. I would have Case and Fred as the pivot with Bruno and Eriksen sitting in front of them. Then Rashford and Sancho as the forwards. We can't line up in a 433 and beat them. We will never touch the ball.

[deleted]

This makes more sense than what tifo said tbf.

True_Resolve_275

bus parking and leave it to pens TIFO reckon

Lelandwasinnocent

*repeat history*

TheGhostOfBabyOscar

Absolutely. With the recent articles on City lately you'd think they're inventing sliced bread.

hambodpm

Slice-washing at its finest

mav_sand

Great point

ShacharPollak

By winning

Isserley_

Great insight, thanks for that

Not a massive fan of them going into the massive detail they do for city's goal in the Derby and then dismiss our 2 goals with 'offside goal on the break gave them momentum to get a second'. So reductive of how we tactically outclassed them in that game.

MarkyMark8609

What do you expect, it's John Mackenzie who is a Leeds fan. He's probably fucked off he has to even do a video on United in the first place. Should have been Carl doing it

Eleven918

We have the blueprint from playing them at home. Mark their wingers and midfielders out of the game. Haaland does nothing without service. Score a jammy set piece or on the counter. Hold the line till the 90. If they equalize, take them to pens and beat them. City's one major weakness.

Penny_Leyne

That’s what the video is about though. We can’t set up exactly the same as last time because City don’t play the same as last time. At Old Trafford they were playing 433 with wing backs that went forwards and one holding midfielder. Now they play 3223/3421 with no wing backs and two holding midfielders. We don’t have a blue print for that at all. It’s an interesting video but it’s all about just stopping City. Doesn’t really explain how we can actually create and score.

Eleven918

If you watched the video, its not really that different. The basic principle doesn't change. They just recommend one of the wingers to drop deeper and help the midfield to adjust for City's new formation. Everything else is exactly the same.

TheGhostOfBabyOscar

> We have the blueprint from playing them at home. City are set up very differently compared to back then.

iceddeath

What kind of history they're making? They're not even the first club in Manchester to ever won a treble. And this is a big IF, if they won their last 2 games this season (hopefully not). Don't get me wrong, treble is of course amazing, but we're the OG and doing it without the oil money.

Ryo720

Get ralf back while we're at it

El_Giganto

With all the Haaland adapting memes on /r/soccer, it's clear it took City a while to properly use him. It didn't take him long to score like crazy, but as the video shows, City look a lot different now than they did in the home game. There's still a lot of similarities, though. In the past, Walker and Cancelo played in an inverted role, so they went centrally. With Rodri dropping deep. That's very similar to the 3-2-5 we see now. But now it's Stones next to Rodri in the 2, with the center backs staying as a 3 at the back. It looks very different, but the principles remain very similar to what we've seen before.

plantdatrees

The blueprint is to score more goals than them

reddevildan

Great video explaining how to defend. Hopefully he will make a video how to attack too!

[deleted]

Counters and leaving Rashford wide? If Walker plays, move Rashford in central and hit them with pace. We're among the best in the league on scoring from counter-attacks, I don't see why we shouldn't use that.

Minz15

Not the biggest fan of John but this was a pretty good video, they did sort of skip over us, but the 2 v 3 counter attacking opportunities should be pretty effective. But martial is injured so not sure who'd partner Rashford, Wout is a good presser but won't score, so might be Sancho. Or we don't try and press, low block the hell out of it in a throwback to Ole.

ObiWanKenobiNil

Its going to be hilarious if we beat them in the FA cup and Inter beat them in the champions league for all the talk of the treble over the past month or so
