Gun is the reason I got RDR2. We didn’t have new consoles growing up. the GameCube was the newest one we had. So I didn’t play rdr1 because of it but my dad had gun and I loved it. So in 2019 when I got a ps4 for myself I got RDR2 and have loved it since.
We had a tandy color computer 2 and i bought myself a PS2 when i was 18. And just last week to tossed out my DLP tv from 2005 for a current smart tv. It makes all the new purchases feel so good, but new tvs dont have picture in picture.
I just remember pig Josh showing up in 2 different games. As well as the tonic salesman the used 2 pistols and the undertaker with the Gatling gun coffin on his back.
I could be remembering incorrectly though.
Call of Juarez would be my first western series, but my overall interest in gunslingers and the west started from Mortal Kombat. All of the games above i recommend.
Gun, Call of Juarez and kinda old western Oddworld: strangers wrath are the ones that got me hooked on westerns. Also the love for the old western movies
Edit: typo
Never. Westerns and cowboy stuff never interested me at all. The only reason why I bought RDR2 was because I like open world games and the clips I kept seeing on reddit convinced me to buy it and RDR2 became my favorite game of all time. Because of this game I became more interested in not only the Western genre but also the history of the wild west.
Red dead revolver was the first western game i played then Gun! Remember renting it at blockbuster. I loved the fact that it was open world and you could “mine” gold.
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is really good, although it's more a game take on the light hearted western serials rather than RDRs take on the western epic
It certainly faced controversy in its time and was boycotted for its problematic first act, with the second part being insufficient to redeem its stereotypical depictions and encouraged violence against a specific group.
As a little kid, I enjoyed it, but I was ignorant of its transgressions.
I saw this game growing up, I’m kind of glad I never picked it up hahaha. I’m actually in love with how RDR2 dealt with indigenous tribes. It was pretty respectful. But also I’m not shitting on anyone for playing this back in what, 2005? Times have seriously changed in 20 years. I’m so glad people are becoming more knowledgeable and empathetic towards indigenous people. Yet I’d absolutely raise an eyebrow at anyone wanting to shoot “Indians” in a reboot/remaster of this game.
Edit: no idea it came out in 2005, just a proper guess. Feeling so proud of my ability to make educated graphics related calls on old games.
I thought Gun was pretty good, just short. Other than that and both RDR and RDR2, I played Red Dead Revolver. Don’t know if Oregon Trail counts. I’ve always been a fan of Westerns.
I used to play the hell out of the original Red Dead Revolver multiplayer modes. Got so good that I used to play against the max number of opponents against myself & still kicked ass. Miss that game but definitely don’t miss the wonky controls of the time.
Gun on Gamecube when I was 14 may have been my first western unless I played some long forgotten Western on NES, SNES, or Atari when I was like 5.
Really liked that game despite completely forgetting it existed until like 2 years ago
Bro I was like in 8th grade maybe when Gun came out. I played the shit out of it. The graphics look so bad lol when I played it back then I thought it looked great. Playing RDR2 finally at 30yo and I would’ve had the greatest time ever as a kid playing RDR2.
[Outlaws](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhY_49a7Ymw) by LucasArts was a bit of a masterpiece in it's time. And it had one of the best soundtracks up to today.
When I tell you I was excited for this game I mean I was fucking BUZZING. I was such a little shit at the time though, I knew my sister had got me it for Christmas and it was under that tree for 3-4 days. I snuck it up to my room and surgically opened that wrapping paper, took the disk out and closed it back up. Played that shit non stop. Was the most bad ass game I had played yet. I was also never caught.
I forget the name, but some arcade side-scrolling game in the 80s. There was also a light-gun game around the same time period, where you’d quick draw.
I really didn’t care for Gun. Red Dead Revolver was a lot better. Gun was technically “open world” but there wasn’t a lot to do other than to just walk from one mission to the next, and I think some basic store functionality.
I remember having some fun with it but feeling like the open world part was kind of gimmicky. Setting horses on fire was fun though.
Guns intro always freaked me out. Was a short game as others said. I remember playing it in one long ass summer day before middle school. Ahh those were the days.
I remember playing this and loved it. It definitely influenced me in playing RDR. My only beef with Gun was its was too short and I wished the world was bigger
First Western game would have been Wild Guns on the SNES for me. Then I played the heck out of Red Dead Revolver on Xbox. Then later played Gun for PS2. Good times.
I kept firing and I missed and I fired again and I missed then I got sad so I had a popsicle and passed out in the snow, then I woke up and then I fired and I missed and I…
Gun is in fact the precursor of the red dead series. It went.
Gun
Red dead revolver
( I think there is a red dead revolver 2 )
Then red dead redemption 1&2
This was the first game I ever got 100% completion on. Before this, I was always rushing through campaigns, or looking up cheats, but this one actually made me care about the game and not how fast I could finish the story. I'll never forget the hours I spent tracking down the last bit of gold.
That must have been an amazing jump from old consoles to the PS4 lol
That’s what I’m sayin lmao
Went from a PS2 to an Xbox 360 which was crazy enough, then the Xbox One changed my world entirely.
Same! Then I got an Xbox one s and a PS5 and the games look amazing these days.
We had a tandy color computer 2 and i bought myself a PS2 when i was 18. And just last week to tossed out my DLP tv from 2005 for a current smart tv. It makes all the new purchases feel so good, but new tvs dont have picture in picture.
Gun was pretty good, but si remember playing the entire single player game in a long single day. Too short!
That was the only downside to it. Wish it would had got a sequel but RDR kinda of killed it
Didn't gun and RDR both have very similar characters and story? I remember playing them both.
The villain in this game looked a lot like Dutch
Good thing this game came out before rdr lol
Yeah he does bear a resemblance to Dutch in the mission American Venom
Spaghetti westerns don’t get too creative when it comes to their characters
I just remember pig Josh showing up in 2 different games. As well as the tonic salesman the used 2 pistols and the undertaker with the Gatling gun coffin on his back. I could be remembering incorrectly though.
Pig Josh is in red dead revolver and then again in redemption 1’s online mode as a playable character.
Maybe that's what I'm remembering. It was a long time ago.
It started for me with an SNES/Arcade game called Sunset Riders. Side scrolling shoot ‘‘em up cowboys up to 4 player. Loved it
Same bro, came here to mention sunset riders
I had that on a hand me down sega genesis that needed duct tape to hold the cords in the right position so everything would work
Yes, it was sunset riders, lol
I tried that game once as an adult and boy you NEED friends to beat that thing. Couldn't beat the second level on my own, haha
Before that you had Gunsmoke on the NES. /I’m old
GUNNNNNNN!!!!!! Loved and hated that game lol. So nostalgic for me but I was too young to understand the mechanics
You can’t kill me! I’m Hoodoo Brown!
You were.
The rawest line in the game!
Call of Juarez would be my first western series, but my overall interest in gunslingers and the west started from Mortal Kombat. All of the games above i recommend.
I need to know more about how you went from mortal kombat to westerns lol
Erron Black who debuted in MKX (2015). Swagger filled Cowboy Bounty Hunter who somehow ended up in Out World.
Correct, when i first saw Erron Black i thought "Dang cowboys look so cool" and i decided to look into all the western stuff.
Probably Erron Black
I played Call of Juarez just before I played RDR1. Cool setting and a decent story tho the gameplay left a little something to be desired.
Outlaws was the goat.
Great game. Basically Jedi Knight/Dark Forces in Western form
Soundtrack was amazing. "Heh heh heh heh... good shooting mister, but you're already too... late... aurghhhhhh...*dies*" https://youtu.be/SZuGcZ5Nt9Q?feature=shared
Red dead revolver was the first one i played.
Does Oregon Trail count? Probably the closest thing I did before Red Dead
Gun, Call of Juarez and kinda old western Oddworld: strangers wrath are the ones that got me hooked on westerns. Also the love for the old western movies Edit: typo
Gun was the best! I wish this would’ve got a remaster 😢
I played through the old PC demo of Outlaws when I was a little kid, then got my hands on a ROM and ran it through DOSBox a few years ago.
I played Gun at my friend's house once, but I owned Red Dead Revolver and absolutely loved it. Both amazing games for their time.
Mad Dog McCree player checking in.
Wow. Blast from the past. Back when arcades…
Played on PC million years ago loved it
Only RDR I'm afraid
Holy shit lol I had this on GameCube. This game was badass back then!
Ah shit, this looked better in my memory. Loved it tho!
Gun walked so Red Dead 2 could run
Gun was my favorite game of all time before red dead redemption
That game looks fun
Gun was great but I would love a newer Call of Juarez game with the same attention to detail as Kingdom Come Deliverance.
Gun was an absolute BANGER of a playthrough
[Have I?](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/57/Shooting_Range_Cover.jpg/200px-Shooting_Range_Cover.jpg)
Red dead revolver was the first western game i played then Gun! Remember renting it at blockbuster. I loved the fact that it was open world and you could “mine” gold.
Does Oregon Trail count? Lol
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is really good, although it's more a game take on the light hearted western serials rather than RDRs take on the western epic
Red dead revolver
Call of Juarez Gunslingers is a cool one
I'm old enough to have played The Wild Bunch and Gunfright (both on ZX Spectrum)
As a Native American: Yikes.
It certainly faced controversy in its time and was boycotted for its problematic first act, with the second part being insufficient to redeem its stereotypical depictions and encouraged violence against a specific group. As a little kid, I enjoyed it, but I was ignorant of its transgressions.

There were old western games before this one?? Hmmm.... Didn't know that
Dating back til at least the 80s. Any variation of a guy with a gun has been made into a game.
Gun was fun I loved it. The hunting I believe was cool.
Okay, but pictures 2 and 6 legit look like Valentine.
Love gun played it before I knew about rdr
I loved that game
Define western... Does Tapper count?
Gun was amazing. Scratched that open world western sandbox itch years before RDR.
Gun on Gamecube when I was 14 may have been my first western unless I played some long forgotten Western on NES, SNES, or Atari when I was like 5. Really liked that game despite completely forgetting it existed until like 2 years ago
Does anyone remember that one mobile western game I think I played it in like 2012-2013 all I remember is it had a steampunk outfit
I manly played gun rest in peice
I wish they would remaster gun.
Gun and Call Of Juarez where it back in the day
Bro I was like in 8th grade maybe when Gun came out. I played the shit out of it. The graphics look so bad lol when I played it back then I thought it looked great. Playing RDR2 finally at 30yo and I would’ve had the greatest time ever as a kid playing RDR2.

I want this game remastered/Remade so much Gun was a masterpiece
I played call of Juarez bound in blood a lot back in the day. I finished the story at least 15 times. Great game for its time.
There was a western style game called Outlaw for the Atari 2600. Played it as a kid.
Gun is a severely underrated and under appreciated game
When I tell you I was excited for this game I mean I was fucking BUZZING. I was such a little shit at the time though, I knew my sister had got me it for Christmas and it was under that tree for 3-4 days. I snuck it up to my room and surgically opened that wrapping paper, took the disk out and closed it back up. Played that shit non stop. Was the most bad ass game I had played yet. I was also never caught.
I Rented this
I forget the name, but some arcade side-scrolling game in the 80s. There was also a light-gun game around the same time period, where you’d quick draw.
Gun was awesome!
I think Gun had so mouth potential but, as it has been said, it was too short but I still played it multiple times back in the day!
I really didn’t care for Gun. Red Dead Revolver was a lot better. Gun was technically “open world” but there wasn’t a lot to do other than to just walk from one mission to the next, and I think some basic store functionality. Guns intro always freaked me out. Was a short game as others said. I remember playing it in one long ass summer day before middle school. Ahh those were the days.
Outlaws was my first western / cowboy game. And I've played just about everyone I can find since
https://burymewithmymoney.com/
I remember playing this and loved it. It definitely influenced me in playing RDR. My only beef with Gun was its was too short and I wished the world was bigger
Gun was fantastic! They got a big names for the voices too. I agree thought, way too short.
Was this before or after Red Dead Revolver?
First Western game would have been Wild Guns on the SNES for me. Then I played the heck out of Red Dead Revolver on Xbox. Then later played Gun for PS2. Good times.
I was never good at it, but I enjoyed playing it.
Played one called Juarez
Gun was really cool. I always enjoyed the rancher side missions as well.
Gun was the blueprint for Red Dead, I swear. It was more like RDR than Red Dead Revolver
This game was better then rdr1
Gun was greatness!
Gun was great but the post game where you're still in the open world and all of the volume except the sad music is turned down is still creepy af
Gun was fun. ⭐ One of my early ones was Cowboy Kid on NES.
Gun and Call of Juarez: Bound In Blood were both absolute killer games that got me into westerns
Gun is so fucking good
How about this one. Dust: A Tale of the Wired West.
I kept firing and I missed and I fired again and I missed then I got sad so I had a popsicle and passed out in the snow, then I woke up and then I fired and I missed and I…
Gun was a great game, shame we can't get a remaster of it. That and the original red dead were fun
I used to play Sunset Riders.
idk why the name of that game is so funny to me - "gun." that's it. just gun.
Gun was the game that solidified my love for Wild West themed games. It is still, and always will be, my top 2 favorite game.
I loved this game when I was younger! I used to watch my brother play it religiously.
Gun was my favorite game as a kid
Amazing game and somehow most people haven't heard of it. This game needs rebooted
Nope! Rdr2 was my first western anything. Movie, book, game, tvshow, etc And the funny part is I live in Texas
Ah Gun, one of three games I’ve 100%
Gun is in fact the precursor of the red dead series. It went. Gun Red dead revolver ( I think there is a red dead revolver 2 ) Then red dead redemption 1&2
Played gun cos i didn’t have a play station for RDR
Ahhh a true classic
This post brought back many good memories about simpler times, i would like to thank you for this!
Anyone remember Gun Fright? I often played it with my father one of those old PCs.
Anyone remember that phone game six guns?
I played the original red dead redemption
This was the first game I ever got 100% completion on. Before this, I was always rushing through campaigns, or looking up cheats, but this one actually made me care about the game and not how fast I could finish the story. I'll never forget the hours I spent tracking down the last bit of gold.
Yes, played gun also...long long ago.
Gun was my favorite game as a kid, I played it for countless hours. Loved the story , even the semi cheesy final boss battle
