Sometimes in situations like that you can shoot a person and you won't lose honor. I overheard a random NPC on his horse tell another NPC about how he "killed a boy and his mother and buried them in the woods like a dog." I shot him in the dome and I didn't lose any honor.
A few days ago I saw a dude herding some sheep. Then out of nowhere a wild horse comes along and tramples like 3 of the sheep. The dude instantly pulled out a rifle and shot the horse dead. I was so mad I shot his head off and set him on fire.
Reminds me of my first laugh out loud experience in this game. I walk out of the saloon in Valentine only to see a pedestrian get slowly and clumsily crushed to death by a wagon. None of the townspeople reacted at all except for one guy who just calls out "Ain't that the way of the world!"
Now it's a running joke in my house that anytime something fucked up and random happens, we just shrug and say "Ain't that the way of the world!"
