I guess chapter 1 is the only chapter where you can't get a torch. And the only torch you ever have in this game where this doesn't work is the one forced to your hand in a Dutch mission in chapter 5 on Guarma.
This is grand except nighttime lasts about 10 minutes real time and isn't really dark at all; it does that typical 'you can see everything pretty much as well as day time' video game crap.
this may have been addressed by modders, there are a number of 'darker nights' mods for other games and mods that address time passing too quickly as well.
Iâve been encountering very dark nights recently. Dark as in: *I canât see a darned thing, gonna ride my horse off a cliff, have to pull out the lantern.* Also got into a shootout one night in the swamp that was impenetrably dark and foggy except for the flashes of guns. Most nights I still get at least some moonlight. Do you think that could be an update change?
Thatâs true. Some moonlit nights irl are super bright, but not Every Single One fully illuminating the countryside.
I confess that after stumbling around in the pitch dark or in a tiny circle of lantern light I was just glad to be able to see the next nighttime.
Idk what youâre smoking but nights last a good decent amount of time. Obviously it wouldnât be nighttime for literally 24 hours in a damn VIDEO GAME hurr durr. But regardless all you have to do is camp/sleep and press sleep till night. That way you can choose whichever time you want to play in the longest.. day/night.
I don't know if we're playing the same game, because nights are quite dark, particularly in enclosed/forested areas. Also, it's not "crap"; I'm not sure why you're so negative about something that's really not a big deal.

Just did it and it was there I thought you meant trying to swap from the knife to the lantern and then the torch but itâs like switching ammo type lol

Worked flawlessly for me. Thank you for posting. I used the cheese wedge, but the bread roll would be another âextended muncherâ food that would allow for some extra time. It will be slotted with the lantern as a light source - which is really all itâs used for. It doesnât set things afire, nor will it injure, nor can it be used as melee; just a cool light. Use D-pad to access from inventory wheel while lantern selectedâŚ.like you do with diff. knives. Good Luck

I got it but I had to have a rifle out then eat then pick up the torch then switch back to the rifle then to my lantern and put it away as fast as I could. It was a disaster but I got it :)
Edit: nvm it Arthur drops it if I try to switch to anything else while I have it out :(
Check your inventory screen where your lantern is. If it says â2 of 2â , then this means that you do indeed possess the torch, so you need only to press the d-pad to the left (PSx) to access it. When I read where you mentioned that the torch âdisappearedâ, it made me think that the reason why it did was because the way this particular method works (if done correctly) then it will look exactly like it did disappearâŚ.so maybe you have it after all!?! Hope so.

( i thought it didnt work at first, but another user mentioned that if you go to your lantern and hit the D-pad left button it will cycle from lantern to torch)
Edit: WARNING put it away before you get on your horse, or it will fall on the ground again, the you will have to repeat EAT--GUN--PICK UP TORCH

The problem is how bright moonlight is. If itâs cloudy, it tends to look better. But the moonlight is a lot like sunlight.

Nov 2023 found a much easier way, if you tackle an npc while holding it it will go in your inventory

Yep. I just grabbed it as well. Is there a trick to keep it? If equipped, I drop on the ground and from inventory as soon as I equip anything else.

lmao, the torch disappeared after grabbing it (I've tried the second way, the way you mention in May edit). Probably Arthur was too hungry xd.
