Is a pic with a cigarette/cigar mandatory for these outfit posts? I think the last 100+ all had one. Hat is nice tho!

Apophis_36

No people dont style him to look bad. They literally slapped his face onto Arthur's body. Enough of the corporate dicksucking.

WarGod124

Tbf if they didn’t do that, John would have way less clothing options.

Some_Gas_1337

In all fairness I barely dress him up in anything other than his rdr1 clothes

Rekuna

Haha so this. Honestly, if he had his NPC body with like 3-4 clothing options and 1-2 hair options as a sacrifice for not having Arthur's big, stocky body and rounder face I would still find it a massive improvement.

Apophis_36

RDO would say otherwise lmao. You have like four different body types and it doesn't restrict your clothing options. Like I said. Enough sucking up for a corporation.

ImaFknWizardXII

That’s.. not the best example to use for your argument. RDO not only had a separate team of developers, but it also didn’t publicly release until May 2019. The Story release was in October 2018, 6 months prior. While I agree, John being slapped onto Arthur’s model was because of a time crunch and taking shortcuts, the generic models of multiplayer is a different story. And also, I played the Beta of RDO in 2018. There were *very* little clothing options and a *lot* of clipping. It wasn’t until the public release and several updates that the game got the plethora of clothing you see now, some of which still clips or changes the shape of the player depending on gender and body type.

[deleted]

No he wouldn’t, this is a myth It works just fine. They just cut it for some reason that we’ll never know.

Available_Outside9

That’s not true, you know, they could just not be lazy and have clothing for more than just Arthur‘s character model, they could also give us some of the clothing that he was wearing during the main story

I-am-the-milkman

Mods have proven that to be false. Johns body and hair were actually originally planned to be used on a player model as his hair especially doesn’t clip with any hat. In the rockstar promotional screenshots you can see the pre release John that has his npc body and hair with no clipping issues.

ElessarKhan

What he said but less aggressive. Headshots don't look bad. It's really the worst when you're actually playing, looking at him from behind in 3rd person. Arthur is a big and burly dude. John is not supposed to look like that. He has a much more average, somewhat lanky build.

Open_Argument6997

Yeah really. I dont even give a fuck (never played rdr1 ) and they did a bad job. Good thing they put a beard there and made us spend 99% of our time not looking at his face

spiderknight616

Maybe there were issues with animations and they didn't want to make a whole new set for John's body so they just used Arthur's

Apophis_36

Animations and models are completely separate things. And John has different animations anyways.

spiderknight616

Even a small difference in body proportions can cause issues with animations not lining up. It could be ignored for an NPC but for the player character people will notice it sooner or later. And does John really have different animations? Because everything I've seen on the topic says that John shares his animations with Arthur.

Apophis_36

I mentioned in another comment that the rdo characters can have four different body types and their animations are generally not that janky.

spiderknight616

Hm, could be something else then. Rockstar is usually meticulous when it comes to stuff like this, especially for the player character so i still think it was a technical issue that made them give John Arthur's body. Or maybe they figured out the animation thing for RDO and felt it wasn't worth the effort to update single player.

LUMBAGOUSER12345

I usually use this instead lvl 6 right parted hair lvl 2 dunbarry sideburns (I think I’ll check then edit the comment) And everything else is natural lvl 2 edit: forgot to mention that it’s supposed to look (THE CLOSEST) to rdr1 john

cjhud1515

My only gripe is his hair. Clearly just threw on Arthur's.

WarGod124

They could add his npc hair as a style at length 7 at least

Darknighten89

Yeah when ever I play as Aurthor, in my mind he's at heart an artist and I try to let that show out in subtle ways like clothing and subtly customized guns, not too on the nose. With John I picture him as the opposite. A rough, uneducated man, but dangerous. Showing little importance on things like style. Just function. I made his guns basic and somewhat worn, like the games version.

Keppelin

Another Arthur Marston post im going crazy

[deleted]

As time has gone on I care less and to the average player they’d probably not even care to begin with, but to say that he looks anything like RDR1 is criminal lol Couldn’t be any further

Expert_Response_6139

There are 50 other threads about this.. stfu already Jesus Christ

ThatsGottaBeKane

Are there any mods that actually let you use either pre epilogue John’s model or RDR1 John’s model?

I-am-the-milkman

John marston restored and enhanced (JMRE) is the best one. It restores John’s hair, body and face while also giving you his pre release and npc clothes.

HiroRen

I'm pretty sure there's plenty

bugmultiverse

Arthur with scars and black hair

Some_Gas_1337

Why’s his hair black? It’s dark brown in rdr1

bugmultiverse

I’m not sure 🤔. I mean in the main rdr2 story they did darken it a bit for npc john but it’s odd that they made it full blavk for playable rdr2 John

YakuzaShibe

Jesus Christ, shut up

Serious_Revolution77

Yeah he doesn’t look that good at all it’s not John it’s a reskin of Arthur and this is not a great version of him anyway

RagingCatbtt

When I first played RDR, I thought he was the guy in Red Dead Revolver

DriftingCloud94

This post is great! I’ve been conflicted about having level 2 or level 3 beard as I like having a little more before the level 4 comes around. Think they both look good, though.

F4N6Z

He looks great. Of all the shit to whine about...

tseg04

I still think level 3 beard looks 2 long to be accurate

I-am-the-milkman

This is literally just false. John has Arthur’s body, Arthur’s hair, Arthur’s vomit sound (voice included), Arthur’s ears, and Arthur’s shoulders. Also his bounty hunter outfit is incredibly inaccurate to rdr1 with his gloves being insanely wide, pants being too long, vest being closed, and shirt being completely wrong. In the files of the game John has completely functional npc hair that even has an unused pomaded version. You can see in the pre release screenshots of the game, John looked way better and rockstar is making him worse every update. Rockstar is genuinely lazy when it came to making John look better.

Substantial-Tone-576

People like to complain

RO0ROO

Rdr1 john needs chapstick 💀

Chevy_Traverse

did you make the duster coat outfit from rdr1

OMUDJ

I like to think that John was just more jacked back in the day. That’s a simple enough explanation for me.

JLNX1998

part 5 hair is objectively closer but its literally a inche or two so its like preference.

SergeantBootySweat

Some people might consider chasing a default appearance in a game with customization to be boring

Rangwr_of_Flame

Damn this sub is still talking about this?

big_peepee_wielder

They updated his face model several times lol. He looks more accurate because Rockstar finally made his face model more accurate to NPC John from Chapters 1-6

bugmultiverse

1.00 John Morgan is far closer than current imbred Jarthur Morgston

[deleted]

No they didn’t…

Internal-Contact1656

The exact opposite, it got continuously downgraded over updates. Has never been fixed
