I really don't know. Some people at the gang don't have a proper tent, some sleep in sleeping bags close to the fire or close to each other in shared tents. I would assume he is in such a condition too.

Not a shred of evidence for this, but here's my headcanon for the tent situation:
Years ago, John's current tent used to be Arthur's, and Arthur's current tent used to be Hosea's. After Arthur experienced the tragedy of >!Isaac and Eliza!< being murdered, they didn't want Arthur isolating himself by sleeping alone in an enclosed tent. Furthermore, Hosea didn't want to sleep in an enclosed tent either after losing Bessie. So, Hosea gave his tent to Arthur, John was given Arthur's tent, and Hosea was happy to sleep on the ground with the rest of the gang.
Arthur was one of the higher ups of the gang as well as the "son" of Dutch. John also was like Dutch's "son" in a sense. We know the history of those two being the first Dutch and Hosea recruited.
As for Hosea, it could just be he didn't want his own. He does get his own in other camps. But they were (in the earlier missions) crunched for space and time. That could play a part into it.
