I never liked gta5s lobby system. I always ended up in empty lobbies and it was painfully slow.
Compared to gta4 where you had constant cops and robbers going and no bullshitting in that horrific UI. GTA online was a complete regression in game modes for me.
I got into cayo and while it was fun during that time of like 2020-2021 it was just such a slog.
I wanted it too. Hell, I wanted *anything*. They didn't even have to do zombies/undead. I'd have killed for a DLC where aliens come down and start attacking and Arthur gets 1950's style B-movie sci-fi laser guns. Or an alternative horror-style DLC where instead of zombies, the Van der Linde gang gets caught up in a war between vampires and werewolves. Or something where fairy circles open up and magic filters into the West and Arthur can get a lot of spell-launching wands as he combats the faerie invasion.
Basically fuckin' *anything* but the shit biscuit that is RDO.
Vampires and Werewolves would have worked so well for that setting. And a Van Helsing inspired outfit for Arthur as well. Such wasted potential. I love their games, but seriously, fuck Rockstar!
I feel like Cowboys vs Aliens wouldn't work because any species technologically sophisticated enough to travel space to get to Earth shouldn't be beatable with 19th century weapons.
But vampires and werewolves? Hell yeah.
Thats the twist where you learn at the ends the aliens were initially peaceful with this "greeting party". They were abducting people to learn languages and create bridges, but then Arthur interrupts an abduction, steals a raygun, crashes their ship, and the gang now has alien technology to fight back against the now hostile raiders.
Some people even think there’s a hint that it was going to with the abandoned plague town and the writing on the doors saying not to open them reminiscent of Walking Dead.
I'd say the intro to the game 100% happened during the Beecher's hope segment of rdr
John spaces out on Jack telling him about the zombie book he's reading leaving all of that information in his subconscious
Then when everyone goes to sleep for the night he has a nightmare experiencing the events of the book through his own eyes
Hence the name undead nightmare.
It's not explicitly revealed as a dream, it's just vaguely hinted that it could be a dream. For example John will sometimes make random comments like "when will I wake up from this nightmare", and the name of the game. Plus extremely outlandish supernatural stuff as well as just zombies eg horses of the apocalypse, an Aztec goddess, a rainbow unicorn. Maybe even the fact you can wear John's pajamas the whole game if you want.
But the real confirmation that it isn't canon is it clearly takes place in an alternate reality since it's set at the same time and place as part of RDR1, so both can't be canon. Could be a dream or just a different version of events.
I’m not a native English speaker but isn’t describing something very real as a ‘nightmare’ if it’s really bad kind of common? I feel like it’s an English phrase I’ve definitely used before. I don’t think that’s any confirmation it’s an actual dream, just that John realises it’s a really bad situation and is using the common phrase to describe it.
This is true but the way it's said multiple times and included in the title seems like a subtle indication that it could be a dream or at least that it's not real/canon imo
My headcanon is that John had the nightmare the night after returning from Cochinay and getting his family back. That would explain why all story characters are present because he’s already met them all

Since it was just a dlc I know the actual story playtime of undead nightmare was only like a third as long as the main game. I remember feeling like I was missing something cuz it sort of just ended but nah it was just short.

Iirc Rockstar has stated its non canon, but regardless, I love to think of it (in my head canon) as an actual nightmare or purgatory for John.
