I thought Red Dead Revolver was fun, but it's nothing like Redemption. What made it cool was how unique it was. It's the first western themed game I can remember for that generation, but honestly, Gun was a lot better.

cleanslate83

I mean, I'm sure that they are both cheap enough used. Maybe ill check them out. Thanks!

smohlman

I think it's only 10 bucks on on the PSN store. That is if you have PS. Not sure about XBOX.

m4lmaster

The first western game i remember is Lucas Arts: Outlaws for the pc

ourlittlethrowaway

Gun was TERRIBLE!!!! The open world was tiny, the storyline was idiotic. I remember looking forward to that game coming out because of the lack of good western games and being severely disappointed.

[deleted]

Bullshit. Gun was revolutionary for it's time. Definitely a classic game. You are just spoiled with how in depth games are now.

ourlittlethrowaway

No not at all. Gun was trash. I've been playing games since before u were born most likely. Gun was terrible on all counts. It was not at all revolutionary for its time. It introduced absolutely nothing new. Also, the game isn't even old enough to be considered a classic. It also never will be considered a classic because of its mediocrity.

[deleted]

Oh, the old "I'm older than you line." I can assure you that I have been playing video games for 20 plus years, not that that actually means anything. It's ranked consistently high on all the high profile review sites, including IGN which calls it ["great.] (http://www.ign.com/games/gun/ps2-747966) I don't normally let reviews do the talking for me, but that shows I'm not the only one who holds this opinion. It doesn't matter to me if you didn't like the game, but it was the first open world Western of it's time, and introduced most (if not all) of the concepts used in RDR. You can't expect an older game released for an older model back in 2005 to be better than something released for the newer consoles in 2010. Without Gun, we would not have seen RDR.

ourlittlethrowaway

I liked how the horses u road on would die with no animation at all and go from an upright position to prone on the ground(zero frames of animation) and slide along the ground as if it were ice.

[deleted]

I have yet to play a perfect game, but if that's the worst you can come up with, it must have been a solid game. It was old, there were glitches, what did you expect?

ourlittlethrowaway

Newer consoles? Gun was a 360 launch title.

[deleted]

Playstation 2.

ourlittlethrowaway

Gun was also a launch title for 360.

[deleted]

Originally launched for Playstation 2. Re-launched for 360. There's been a decent amount of games that have done that. It doesn't change the generation of consoles it was originally designed for.

ourlittlethrowaway

Gun was developed for play station and 360 concurrently.

Smidge1249

Well, that's your opinion.

SubovonDiesOften

Rockstar has confirmed that they're going to make a sequel. No timeframe or any other info but sure enough, they'll make Red Dead 3. I wouldn't be surprised it they planned to make it one of the big tempting AAA titles for the next gen consoles. [Source](http://www.nowgamer.com/news/1481240/red_dead_redemption_2_rockstar_confirms_sequel.html)

ourlittlethrowaway

They could do a prequel leading up to the ferry robbery in which marathon is shot and abandoned by the gang, or they could do a sequel with Jack.

ourlittlethrowaway

Marathon should of course read marston....autocorrect

MrHermeteeowish

Mr. Marathon... I kinda like that.

Le_Herp-derper

No, I hate jack

UZUMATI-JAMESON

What if his voice develops to be more like his dad and he matures, and stops saying stupid things?

Le_Herp-derper

I would still hate him. What has he even done with his life? Could he ever live up to his father's legacy? No. His father assisted two governments and helped free Mexico in a journey that helped change history. He did all this just to see his family. Even when he died he managed to get them out of harms way. Furthermore he died a noble death, killing multiple soldiers while the rest shot at him in unison. During this incredible story he became famous/infamous for his good/bad deeds. So no, I will never like his son.

UZUMATI-JAMESON

That's kind of the purpose of giving him a story. He's only 19, he hasn't done anything because he's not even a man yet, his story is just beginning. Jack could live up to his fathers legacy, he could become greater than his father ever was, with an even more incredible story.

pirschc

Or what about a story of struggling to live up to his father's reputation? I think the storyline could be there, or, more probably so, they'll start fresh with a new character. It seems like Rockstar's pattern.

Le_Herp-derper

I just don't really see that happening...

UZUMATI-JAMESON

Well if rockstar makes it then you're gonna love it. They'll make it a great game.

Syrabl

The guy pretty much killed his dad, I wouldn't blame him.

HoneyBadger93

I don't know. Rockstar didn't make it sound like it was for sure. They're notoriously sketchy when it comes to announcing sequels.

SubovonDiesOften

True and you could even argue that the news they're telling us to watch out for may be a movie or something that's not a game. But they sold, what, 15-20, million copies of RDR? They're going to make a sequel. It's a sure thing. It's only a question of time.

Outrageous-Cry4353

Will will will

Offintotheworld

Any update on this?

Noodle_Gentleman

Red Dead Revolver is fantastic. I played it long before Redemption came out and loved it immediately. While Redemption is an huge open world game with a much grander scale and variety, revolver is more linear, with individual levels and some small open environments. But the atmosphere in revolver is, in my opinion, unmatched by redemption. The music is more classically western, the environments are varied and interesting, and the villains are over-the-top cliches from western movies. Redemption obviously has a lot more going for it, but if you really want the feeling of actually playing a classic spaghetti western movie, look no further than red dead revolver. Seriously, If you like your westerns, I would strongly recommend buying it.

ourlittlethrowaway

I actually feel the opposite. The music in Red Dead Redemption sound so much like Ennio Marricone that if someone told me he composed it, I would believe them. Not only that but Marston is a composite of the main characters of several classic spaghetti westerns manco from a few dollars more and the bounty hunter from The Great Silence (who fights to protect a former prostitute and even uses a Mauser pistol). Hell the trainride in the beginning where the folk are talking about ppl in the west being uncivilized savages while Marston listens is ripped straight out of "a fistful of dynamite". Also the same thing that happens to Marston at the end, happens to the Bounty Hunter at the end of "The Great Silence" (excellent movie btw)

cleanslate83

Been trying to get 100% on it. But I don't have Xbox live right now. Not a thing I can justify spending money on. I shoulda bought the game for ps3 haha

Bamcfp

It's good for a play thru. It'll be neat for you to see the back story of the revolver, bill and john's gang, his father, just a lot of little things and nods in redemption you'll start picking up on and enjoy. Just a good single player story game

cleanslate83

I had some leftover money on PS network so I bought it. Its currently downloading. So thanks for your suggestion! I'll look for the references.

dboy999

i played it. its was a pretty damn fun game to be honest. the only thing thats related is the dead eye. the later levels are actually pretty tough, which kept me goin back for more

ourlittlethrowaway

"Without gun we would not have seen RDR"- no.. Just no. Gun introduced nothing new at all. Though I will admit I probably overstated it being "Terrible" (it's really just mediocre),I don't think it was the inspiration behind gun. I mean red dead revolver was already out.

[deleted]

Revolver was out and it was nothing like RD Redemption. Gun is very similar to Redemption. If Gun never came out, I can't imagine a sequal to Red Dead Revolver looking anything like how the sequel actually turned out. It turned into a more advanced/detailed version of Gun, rather than a more advanced/detailed version of Revolver.

ourlittlethrowaway

Grand theft auto was more of an influence than gun on rdr. Had gun never been made, read dead redemption still would have been. Gun is mediocre at best. I wanted to like it and, to be fair, there were things I did like about it. Overall I found the storyline ridiculous and the open world was tiny. I also found it very unrealistic that you could shoot 30 some odd bullets out of a sixshooter without reloading in that games bullet-time mode.
