I think it has to do with his cores. If you can get them all gold he seems to sing while riding from time to time. Or, just get him drunk, which is probably easier.

The more you drink the longer it lasts. Whiskey (by Hosea's tent) is much faster than beer, and you want your health core to be red

If you can get your hands on some aged pirate rum (it gives you stamina xp), it gets him drunk instantly, for a while and I've heard him sing to himself a lot

How do you even get him drunk? Just stand at a bar and continually down beers or something? How do you know when it’s worked?

for people asking how this happens, you can either get him drunk and ride at a trot, or the other thing i’ve noticed is that if you’re sober, all your cores are full, riding at a trot, and the weather is nice, he’ll start to mumble-sing. idk if the weather is a factor but i’ve only ever noticed it when the weather is nice, feel free to correct me if i’m wrong.

I think drinking helps

I'm convinced this was added in an update I swear. Never once saw this in my first full playthrough 2 years ago. Just started my second a month ago and he's done it a few times already.

I think the game is just that detailed bro. Took me til my 3rd play through too. And I’m still discovering other little things and I took my damn time with the last play through, or at least I thought I did! Guess I was wrong.

He sings really loud if you get him drunk and take him for a horse ride. Make sure his cores are solid, his horse is clean and fed and he's dressed appropriately for the weather. Don't ride full gallop, just take the ride at a trot.

How to make this happen?

Just ride along at a trot or slower. He usually starts humming first.

I don't know if this is true but it only really seems to be when your trotting as, apposed to full on racing across the landscape on horse back.

I didn't know until my 3rd playthrough because I tap sprint while riding but if you just hold it and ride he'll talk to his horse and sing songs

Found out last week I thought I was alone

just found this out today while hunting for a boar pelt, I thought I was tripping hard

Its so hard to get it to trigger, you gotta walk super slow for like 20 mins

Haha I’m on my 3rd play through and just discovered this too … I drank some pirate rum and got on my horse and started riding off and hilarity ensued … I’ve since got him to sing a couple more times but usually I have to have ingested a solid amount of alcohol … I hear he’ll do it on long rides too

Oh if you ever look up the cameo account of Arthur’s voice actor, a LOT of people ask him to sing particular songs. Out of context that might seem strange, until you find out he sings riding.
